PINEVILLE — Geneva Altizer of Pineville passed away Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013.

Jennings William Clay

KINGSPORT, Tenn. — Jennings William Clay, age 70, Kingsport, TN, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, July 10, 2013.

He was born on March 16, 1943, at Sandlick, WV, to the late Thomas Jennings and Lola Mae Morgan Clay of Dameron, WV.

He attended Oceana High School and graduated from Baileysville High School in May 1961. After graduating, he was employed by Owens-Illinois Glass Company of Bridgeton, NJ. He entered the U.S. Army in 1965. While in the military, he received the Expert Marksman Award in M-14, M-16 and .45 automatic. He spent 18 months in Korea and received the Superior Communication, Korean Medal, and Top Radio Award and obtained the rank of Spec 4th. He received his Honorable Discharge in Fort Gordon, GA, in 1967.

After his military service, he returned to Bridgeton, NJ, and continued his work at Owens-Illinois Glass Company until its closing in 1984. He was then employed by Public Service Electric and Gas of Salem, NJ, until his retirement in 2005. After his retirement, he moved to Kingsport, TN.

Jennings was an avid fan of boxing, NASCAR racing, building and flying airplanes, but he loved fishing the most.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jordan Horner of Salem, NJ.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Margie Pauline Clay; One son, Shenandoah (Cynthia) Clay of Roanoke, VA; two daughters, Nickole (Dave) Hannah of Salem, NJ, and Avonda Clay of Kingsport, TN; two grandsons, Joshua Horner of Salem, NJ, and Shane Clay of Roanoke, VA; two granddaughters, Taylor Marie Gibbs of Kingsport, TN, and Abigail Clay of Roanoke, VA; one great-grandson, Zackery Horner of Salem, NJ; and three sisters, Janith Clay and Jacqueline Plummer of Bridgeton, NJ, and Jaunetta (Rondell) Belcher of Sun Hill, WV; and his special companion, his dog, Foxy.

Funeral services were held on Monday, July 15, 2013, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home, Johnson City, TN, with Pastor Lon Tobin officiating. Jennings was laid to rest Monday, July 15, 2013, in the beautiful Mountain Home National Cemetery in Mountain Home, TN, with full Military Rites conducted by VFW Post 2108 of Johnson City, TN.

Jennings will always be sadly missed by his family.

Juanita Ruth Ennis

MEADOW BRIDGE — On Tuesday, July 30th, 2013, Juanita Ruth Ennis, 48, was called home to be with the lord after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

She was a loving wife and mother who always put everyone else first and made sure everyone was happy. She was an animal lover and loved her cat Moose. She also was a loyal friend and companion.

She was proceeded in death by her father Jack Burnett, and Mother Doris Burnett.

Survivors include her husband David Ennis, son Abraham Ennis, Daughter Samantha and husband Brad Lilly. Brothers Randy Ayers and Jack Burnett. Sister Robin Burnett. Also survived by Russell Ennis father in-law, Glen and Sue Ennis, Kelly Ennis, Stanley and Bobbie Ennis, Nick Ennis, and Chris Ennis.

William Robert ‘Bill’ Fleshman

VERONA, Va. — William Robert “Bill” Fleshman, 71, of Verona, Virginia, formerly of Charmco, went to be with his loving Lord and Savior, Saturday, July 20, 2013, in the Kings Daughters Community Health Center in Staunton, following a long illness.

Born March 23, 1942, in East Rainelle, he was the son of the late William R. and Kathleen Wheeling Fleshman, Sr.

Bill was a member of the Fountain of Life Church of God of Prophecy. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was a master electrician until his retirement. Bill was a loving and devoted husband and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was an avid gardener and loved to keep busy helping anyone who needed him: neighbors, churches and strangers because he could fix anything with his hands and enjoyed doing it. Bill enjoyed southern gospel, RFD TV and was a NASCAR fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Sharp.

Survivors include his loving wife of 30 years, Wanda Moran Fleshman; 2 sons William Robert “Billy” Fleshman, III, of North Carolina and Ryan Keith Fleshman of Washington; 1 daughter Catherine Lynne Adams of Virginia; 1 grandson William Robert Fleshman, IV, of Florida; 3 granddaughters Tiffany Fleshman of Virginia, Mica Jordan Adams of Virginia and Michael Elizabeth Adams of Washington; three nieces and four nephews.

Services were held in Virginia and the burial was private.

Barbara J. Toothman Honaker

RONCEVERTE — Barbara J. Toothman Honaker, 77, of Ronceverte passed away Saturday, August 3, 2013, at her home.

Born October 16, 1935, at Ronceverte, she was the youngest daughter of the late Gordon G. and Rose Ella Toothman and in addition to her parents she was preceded in death by four brothers, Booty, Herman, Alta and Guy, when he was a child, and two sisters, Rose Hanifin and Marie Lockhart.

Barbara was a longtime member of Greenbrier Baptist Church in Ronceverte.

She is survived by her husband of sixty years, Jack O. Honaker; sons, Daniel R. Honaker and wife, Leta, Michael O. Honaker and wife, Lori, and Randall C. Honaker; daughters, Carol A. Johnson and husband Steve and Susan M. Hardiman and husband, Leo; brother, Donald G. Toothman; grandsons, Joshua Johnson (Shannon) and Justin Johnson; granddaughters, Samantha Holliday, Michelle Morgan (Nathan), Tessa Honaker and fiancé Bill Mitchell, Chloe Honaker, Brianna Hedrick, Summer Hardiman and Chantel Hardiman; great-grandchildren, Jeri and Garrett Holiday, Riley and Reagan Johnson, Andy and Macie Morgan and Aubrielle Hardiman.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, August 5, 2013, at Greenbrier Baptist Church in Ronceverte with Pastor Timothy Dillon officiating. Burial will follow in the Honaker Cemetery on Coffman Hill.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, at Morgan Funeral Home in Lewisburg.

Roger Dale Jeffries

MINDEN — Roger Dale Jeffries, 65, of Minden, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2013, at C.A.M.C. Memorial Division. Born November 5, 1947, at Hickory Gap, W.Va., son of the late Clark Napoleon Jeffries and Ora Elizabeth (Grose) Jeffries.

Roger retired after working 25 years in general maintenance for the City of Oak Hill. He attended New Beginnings Church of God at Glen Jean.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters Dreama Jeffries and Judy Jeffries; one brother Wayne Jeffries; one half sister Audrah Walker; two half brothers Paul Jeffries and James Jeffries; and two favorite aunts Fannie Jeffries and Goldie Jeffries.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife Wanda Mae (Masters) Jeffries; four daughters Shondaya Faye “Beano” Sears and her husband James of Minden, Angie Denise “LuLu” Todd and her husband Mike of Carlisle, Elizabeth Yvonne “Robut” Arrington and her husband Charlie of Summerlee; and Starlett Dawn “Bunkey” Humphrey and her husband George of Minden; two sisters Thelma Barker of Lansing, W.Va., and Linda Fitzwater of Oak Hill; one brother Robert Jeffries of St. Albans; two half sisters JoAnn Summers and her husband Herbert of Gastonia, NC, and Nora Powers of Monmouth Junction, NJ; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

His remains rest at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, where the funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday with Rev. John Pack and Rev. William Mosley officiating and where the family will receive friends from 12 noon until time of service. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

Members of the family will serve as pallbearers.

Thomas Grant Jessup

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Thomas Grant Jessup, 73, of Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2013, in MUSC Hospital in Charleston, SC, following a short illness.

Born December 21, 1939, he was the son of the late Charles Mac Jessup and Pauline Ragle Jessup of Mt. Tabor Road, Beckley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Billy Webb, in 1990; his brother, Charles Jr., in 1944; and his sister, Ramona Carol Jessup, in 1989.

Mr. Jessup retired from Safeway Stores, Inc., in 1998 with 26 years of service.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Betti, of Myrtle Beach, SC; his daughters, Debbie of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Dottie of Baltimore, MD; twin sisters, Rose Wickline and husband Donald of McConnell, WV, and Mary Redden and husband Glenville of Beaver, WV; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Mr. Jessup’s wishes, he was cremated and there will be no service. Mr. Jessup will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

Polly White Wheeler

AMELIA, Va. — Polly White Wheeler, 97, of Amelia, VA, formerly of Elgood, died Thursday, August 1, 2013, at her residence.

Born February 7, 1916, in Elgood, WV, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Patton White and Ollie Steele White.

Polly was a homemaker and the last surviving member of her immediate family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey B. Wheeler; six brothers, Aubrey, Allen, Fred, Blake, Lake and Donzie White; seven sisters, Maude Shumate, Lottie White, Elsie Shumate, Christie Kennedy, Rhoda Holdren, her twin sister, Chippie Ferguson, and Louise Harris; and one nephew, Arthur Shumate.

Survivors include one son, Bobby N. Wheeler and wife Susie of Powhatan, VA; two grandsons, Raymond Wheeler and wife Susie of Powhatan, VA, and Gary Wheeler of New London, OH; two great-grandchildren, Amanda Wheeler and Gary Wheeler, Jr.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, August 5, 2013, at the Mt. View Community Church in Elgood with Pastor Jim Stanley officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. View Community Church Elgood Cemetery. Family will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call at the church from 12 noon until the service hour on Monday.

LOCKBRIDGE — Mildred Miller Wickline, of Lockbridge, passed away Friday, August 2, 2013, at the home of her son, Dale Miller, following a long illness.

Born January 25, 1927, at Lockbridge, she was the daughter of the late Lemuel and Annie Stickler Gwinn.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Harry W. Miller in 1970 and James Wickline in 1997; stepson James Olen Wickline; grandson Shane Michael Miller in 1981; great-granddaughter Angela Boothe; brothers James, Harley, Dempsey and Bobby Gwinn and sister Juanita Shoff.

Mildred was a faithful member of the Thorny Point Tabernacle for 57 years where she served as secretary. She was a member of the Meadow Bridge Kiwanis Club, treasurer of the Sandstone All School Reunion, graduating in the class of 1945; and served on the board of the Summers County Committee on Aging.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Wanda Jones and the Hospice of Southern West Virginia for their love and care during Mildred’s illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 5, at the Thorny Point Tabernacle, Lockbridge, with Franklin Bowles officiating. Burial will follow in the Dequasie Cemetery, Lockbridge. 

Pallbearers will be grandsons Christopher and Jonathan Miller, J.B. Simmons, Brian and Matthew Tincher and serving in place of the late Shane Miller will be A.W. Ryan.

Edith Genevieve Wilson

LEWISBURG — Edith Genevieve Wilson was born December 28, 1941, as the first child to Harvey Black and Edith Rodgers Wilson in Ronceverte, West Virginia. She peacefully passed away Thursday, August 1, 2013, at her family home on Valley View Farm in Lewisburg, West Virginia.

Genevieve is survived by her children Frederick of Mammolshain, Germany, and his wife Ursula, Foster Friedman of Alexandria, Virginia, and his wife Kim, Frank W. Friedman of Lexington, Virginia, and Christie London of Sacramento, California, and her husband Ted; her grandchildren Maggie, Wil, Nici, Foster, Beck, Aurelia, Simon, Anna, Roxanne and Donovan her siblings John R Wilson of Lewisburg and his wife Vicki, Sara McDonnell of West Palm Beach, Florida, Ann McClung of Lewisburg and her husband Richard, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins including Bettie S. Woodward of Lewisburg. She also leaves behind many treasured friends.

Genevieve had a deep appreciation for faith, family, farming, and learning. Reflecting her selfless passion for learning, she had donated her body to the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, West Virginia. There will be a celebration of her life August 10 at 1 p.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church west of Lewisburg. A visitation will follow at Valley View Farm.
