Born March 3, 1934, to the late B.R. Burns and Jessie Thomason Burns.

He graduated from Rupert High School as valedictorian of his class. He attended Concord College in Athens, W.Va. He loved serving the people of Greenbrier County and did so in various capacities. Even after retirement, he found a way to serve people by accepting a job he thoroughly loved with the Department of Highways. People always found him to be a friend as he was willing to lend a helping hand in times of need.

While living at Kieffer, Gene served the Lord and attended the Beaver Creek Baptist Church. After moving to Frankford, he faithfully attended the Henning Church of God and served in various leadership roles until his health prohibited him from attending the last few months of his life.
