Audrey (Farley) Ammons

OAK HILL — Audrey (Farley) Ammons, 74, of Oak Hill passed away Saturday, March 13, 2010. Born January 25, 1936, she is the daughter of the late Eldia and Georgia Pack Farley.

In addition to her parents, Audrey is preceded in death by her daughter Vickie Lynn Hayden and stepfather Charlie Wyatt.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Henry Ammons of Oak Hill; daughters Debra Honchell of Oak Hill, Cheryl Rogers of S.C., Tina Gonzalez of Fla.; son Danny Hayden of Oak Hill; sister Diana Mentz of Oak Hill; brothers Carl Farley of Baltimore, Md., Lonnie Farley of Baltimore, Md., and Lionell Farley of Ill.; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Audrey enjoyed playing cards, cooking, and working word puzzles. She loved shopping at antique shops. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Pastor Glen Kuhn officiating.

Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Friends may gather with the family Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dorothy Lou Stover Blake

FAYETTEVILLE — Dorothy Lou Stover Blake, 84, of Rt. 1, Fayetteville, formerly of Mossy, died Friday, March 12, 2010, at Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill.

She was born August 23, 1925, in Kingston, W.Va. Her parents, Charlie and Ada Thompson Stover, preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker and attended Church of God at Mossy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Bernard Blake, on January 14, 2003; two brothers, Kenneth Stover and James Stover.

Survivors include one son, Bernard Blake and wife, Helen, of Rt. 1 Fayetteville; two daughters, Sandra Blake of Hunterville, N.C., and Sherry Blake Hoare and husband, Jack, of Oldwick, N.J.; one brother, Perry Stover and wife, Thelma, of Rt. 1, Scarbro; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Betty Lusk. Entombment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum at Prosperity.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, March 15, at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill.

Nettie Ann Clemens

KEITH — Nettie Ann Clemens of Keith went home to be with the Lord Friday, March 12, 2010, at her home after a long illness.

Services will be noon Wednesday, March 17, in the Faith Freewill Baptist Church, Sylvester, with the Rev. Roger Taylor officiating. Interment will be in Pineview Cemetery, Orgas. Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, at the church.

Armstrong Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.



Carbet Boyce Colwell

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — Carbet Boyce Colwell, 75, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010, in the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, after a short illness.

Memorial service will be 7 p.m. Thursday, March 18, at the Wild Meadow Baptist Church, Route 92, White Sulphur Springs, with Pastor Lowell O’Dell officiating.

Bobby Gene Dillon

Bobby Gene Dillon, 75, of 185 Dillon Creek Road, Lower Sandlick community, died Sunday, March 14, 2010, in the Charleston Area Medical Center following a short illness.

Gary Wayne Dorsey

Gary Wayne Dorsey, 58, of Daniels, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 11, 2010, in a Beckley hospital following a sudden illness.

Born March 21, 1951, in Beckley, W.Va., he was the cherished son of Fred and Etheline Pate Dorsey of Daniels, W.Va.

Gary was a doting father to his two children, a loving son to his parents and a cherished sibling to his sister. He was an avid outdoorsman, loving to hunt, fish, garden and work in wood crafting. He was a member of the young Thundering Herd Marshall University Football Team in 1970, he was inducted in the Woodrow Wilson High School’s Football Hall of Fame in 1991, attended the Crow Missionary Baptist Church, and had worked as a heavy equipment operator.

Gary is now with his two loving brothers, Freddy Lee and Mark Stephen Dorsey who preceded him in death.

Also preceding him were his maternal grandparents, John and Ethel Pate, and paternal grandparents, Ralph and Ada Belle Dorsey.

Those left to cherish his memory other than his parents, Fred and Etheline Dorsey, are his son, Chris Fotos and his wife, Susan Fotos, of Bentleyville, Pa.; a daughter, Chelsea Ann Dorsey of Beckley; a sister, Melodie Lynn Spencer and her husband Timothy of Grandview, and their son Scott Harris of Grandview, and a daughter, Jessica Severino and her husband Joey, and the twins, Marca and Myra of Beckley.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Chapel in Beckley with Pastor Dennis Burks officiating.

Entombment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum in Beckley, W.Va.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday.

It was Gary’s wishes to be an organ donor.

Mary W. Elkins

CYCLONE — Mary W. Elkins, 78, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, March 11, 2010, following a long illness.

Born November 11, 1931, in Dunlow, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Millard F. and Sena Jane Maynard.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by first husband, Forest H. Sams; second husband, Charles Pierce Elkins; a son, Forest E. Sams, Jr.; four brothers, Roy, Jennings, Floyd and Millard F. Maynard, Jr.; five sisters, Anna Brannon, Lizzie Hundley, Hazel Crum, Lois Maynard and Elsie Whitt.

Those left to cherish her memory are a son, Leonard Elkins and wife Jo; five daughters, Jeannie Elkins Casamento, Sue Goode and husband, Mike, Linda Sams Peake, Vicky Elkins and Teresa Browning and husband, Brad; a sister, Ida Maynard Lester of Ohio; grandchildren, Phillip Casamento, Greg Casamento, Tara Casamento, Christopher Goode, Shannon Goode Woofin, Sabrina Elkins, Terri Sams, Tina Sams Parsons, and Ethan Peake; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.

A celebration of Mrs. Elkins’ life will be 11 a.m. today, Monday, March 15, 2010, at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel with Rev. Clyde Robertson officiating. Mrs. Elkins will be laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, W.Va.

Casketbearers will be Brad Browning, Ethan Peake, Christopher Goode, Glen Browning, Louis Peake and Michael Goode.

The family received friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, March 14, 2010, at the funeral home.

Susan Kay LaDoucer Hall

Susan Kay LaDoucer Hall, 57, of Maple Fork passed away unexpectedly Saturday, March 13, 2010.

Born December 16, 1952, in Beckley, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Wilma Lester LaDoucer of Mullens.

She was a toll collector for the W.Va. Turnpike, graduated from Mullens High School; she was hard working, loving and humble. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 17 years, Garrett Hall; three sons: David Hall (Terra), James Hall (Amber) both of Beckley, and Garrett Hall of Elkins, W.Va.; one daughter, Michelle Hall Allen (Kim) of Oceana; her precious grandchildren: Elena and Leah Hall, Faith and James Hall all of Beckley, Courtney, Ashley and James Williams of Oceana; three sisters: Debra LaDoucer of Charleston, Kathy Manning (Clark) of Oceana, and Lisa Taylor (Clark) of Lynchburg, Va.; two sisters-in-law: Judy Varner (Jim) of Garden City, Kan., and Mary Swartz of Montgomery; two brothers-in-law: Ronnie Drake of Montgomery and Junior Linton of Smithers; and her two dogs: Oscar and Rascal; and one cat, Toby, along with a host of extended family and friends.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel with Rev. David A. Chrisman officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity. Friends may gather with the family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Jeffery Owen Osborne

RAINELLE — Jeffery Owen Osborne, 44, of Rainelle, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2010, in the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center at Fairlea following a short illness.

Born on March 28, 1965, in Ronceverte, he was the son of Dorothy “Tiny” Pozzie Osborne of Rainelle and the late Ernest Osborne.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife Pamela Shrewsberry Osborne; 1 son, Randall Osborne of Union; 1 daughter, Amanda Osborne of Rainelle; 2 brothers, Ernest L. Osborne, Jr., and wife Cindy of Meadow Bridge and Norman Larry Osborne and wife Sandy of Princeton; and 2 sisters, Tina Osborne and Wanda Osborne, both of Rainelle.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, in the Little Sewell Baptist Church at Crag with Pastor Joe Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the Puckett Cemetery, Crag.

Friends may call one hour before the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.

CHARLESTON — LaVerne Brown Perry, a resident of Ashland, Ky., departed this earth March 13, 2010, at Hospice Hubbard House.

Joseph Ramsey

Joseph Ramsey, 84, of MacArthur, passed away March 13, 2010, at the Hilltop Center in Oak Hill.

CSM (retired) Hugh H. ‘Smokey’ Stover

Hugh H. Stover, 90, of Shady Spring died March 12, 2010, at Raleigh General Hospital. Smokey was born at Clear Creek Sept. 30, 1919. He was the son of the late Huey H. and Nora Clay Stover.

He was a retired command sergeant major in the Army with more than 27 years of service. Smokey entered the Army in 1940 as the United States began its military buildup for World War II. During WWII he spent 35 months in the Pacific, including the New Guinea campaign, and earned the Bronze Star medal for meritorious service. In addition to the Bronze Star, he earned the Army Commendation Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Good Conduct Medal with eight clasps, the National Defense Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the American Defense Service Medal, the Pacific Campaign Medal and the Army Occupation Medal (Germany).

In addition to his parents, Smokey was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Christine Stover; brothers Glen, Wade, Tracy, Gerald Wayne “Jim,” Sheldon, Nelson; sisters Ora Dunbar, Farris Buzzard, Sally Scarbro and Vicky Stover.

Those left to cherish his memories include daughter Karen and her husband Danny Wood, son Stephen and wife Evangeline; grandchildren Eric Wood and his wife Amy, Adam Wood and wife Angela, Ryan Wood, Matthew Stover, Megan and husband Chris Genge, Zach Stover and his wife Tiffany. Great-grandchildren Amanda and Lacie Wood, Brett Wood, Payton and Gavin Stover and Jonas Genge. Sisters Wanda Craddock, Ruby and husband Chuck Gloch, Susie and husband Harvey Atkins; brothers Elbert and wife Kitty Stover, Doff and wife Dorlene Kincaid.

Upon his retirement from the Army he was a truck driver working for Raleigh Ready Mix. He helped in the construction of the New River Gorge Bridge.

Smokey was an avid baseball fan and played for the Raleigh County League “B” Division in Ameagle. He continued playing baseball and ran track while in the military. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shady Spring.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Raleigh General Hospital ED and SICU staffs, family and friends who helped care for Smokey at home over the past three years, and Dr. Thomas.

Friends may call 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Pastor Delvin Elwell officiating. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

PEYTONA — Cuba O. Wiley of Peytona passed away Friday, March 12, 2010, at the CAMC Memorial Division Hospital, Charleston, after a long illness.

Graveside services will noon Tuesday, March 16, in the Pineview Cemetery, Orgas, with Brother Forrest Ramsey officiating and singing. Interment will be in Pineview Cemetery, Orgas. Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Armstrong funeral home, Whitesville.
