Vada Lucille Amick

SUMMERSVILLE — Vada Lucille Amick, 84, passed away Monday, Aug. 17, 2009.

Service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at the White Funeral Home in Summersville with Pastor Dave Gage and Pastor Mike Saunders officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Church Cemetery.

Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today, Wednesday, at the funeral home.





Wilda Frances ‘Weggie’ Chamberlain

Wilda Frances “Weggie” Chamberlain, age 79, of Sophia, passed away Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009.

Born Sept. 22, 1929, she was the daughter of the late James W. and Rada Ann Shamblin Chamberlain.

“Weggie” was a member of the Sophia Freewill Baptist Church, Sophia, W.Va.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Nathaniel, Jack and Billy Chamberlain; and two sisters, Sue Cherico and June Atterson.

Those left to cherish her memory include two brothers, Robert Delano Chamberlain and wife, Kay, of Maryville, Tenn., and Don Chamberlain of Sophia; four sisters, Ruth Lambert of Beckley, Darlene Sloan of Lexington, Ky., Shirley Simmons and husband, Gene, of Parkersburg, and Velma Adams and husband, Eugene, of Alsip, Ill.; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Service will be 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Sophia, with the Rev. Duane Pease officiating. Burial will follow in Hot Coal Cemetery, Sophia.

Chuck Ragland, Mike Atterson, Harold Snuffer and Jamie Snuffer will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may gather with the family 5 p.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home.

LINDSIDE — Phyllis J. Wagner Dunn, 80, of Wikel Road, Lindside, passed away, Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009.

Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel, Peterstown, with the Rev. Hughlyn Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at the Peterstown Cemetery, Rich Creek, Va.

Cora ‘Jane’ Hylton

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Cora (Jane) Hylton, 78, passed on Saturday evening, Aug. 15, 2009.

Born Jan. 24, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Charles Joseph Corkrean and Louise Hurt Corkrean.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her youngest son, Randy Hylton, in February 2008; and her only brother, Joseph Corkrean.

Those left to cherish her memory include her three surviving children, Wil-liam Hylton of Hinton, Larry Hylton of Beckley and Rita Hutchens of Piney View; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; special daughters-in-laws and a special son-in-law; and one sister, Betty Louise Easley and husband, Edwin, of Choctaw, Okla.

Jane made her home the past 31⁄2 years at Greystone, Beaver, and a short two weeks at Heartland of Beckley. She worked at Beckley Manufacturing Plant for 20-plus years. She graduated Beckley Beauty Academy and worked at Silver Brand Clothing Stores and McCrory Dept. Stores. Rather than retiring, she chose to work for Supervised Cleaning Services, taking pride in cleaning daily and maintaining the Social Security office. She also cleaned for Oak Hill Garbage, Beckley office, until November 2005.

As an act of love, she donated her body to WV University Medical Center, just as her mother, uncle and son had. A special thanks to Anthony at WV University Medical Center.

Jane will celebrate her new life in Christ at an assembly at her church, Stanaford Road Baptist Church, with her Pastor Lyell Zickafoose officiating, today, Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at 5 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy can be made to the church.

Charlotte ‘Pye’ Blanchard Johnson

LEWISBURG — Charlotte “Pye” Blanchard Johnson, 95, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center.

Born July 25, 1914, in Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of the late Peter and Margaret Blanchard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard S. Johnson; a daughter, Margaret (Lin) Thompson; a brother, Peter P. Blanchard; and a sister, Libby B. Kirkland.

Survivors include a daughter, Anne Johnson Staunton of Lewisburg; five grandchildren, Fred M. Staunton III, Howard (John) S.J. Staunton, Clarence (Kit) B. Staunton, Lindsay Staunton Brown and Michael L. Staunton; and 13 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at the Old Stone Presbyterian Church, Lewisburg, with the Rev. Dr. Dexter Taylor, pastor, officiating, preceded by a private distribution of ashes by the family.

McCraw Funeral Home, Lewisburg, is in charge of the arrangements.





Jeremy Wayne Price

Jeremy Wayne Price, 33, of Arnett, passed away Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009.

Born Aug. 6, 1976, he was the son of Dennis Clark Price and Pamela Pearl Lafferty Davidson.

Jeremy is preceded in death by his grandparents, Carlos Byrd Price, Seretta Arlene Price, William Preston Lafferty and Martha Arbutus Workman Lafferty; a special uncle, Terry Randal Price Sr.; and a stepbrother, Wylie Jane Davidson.

In addition to his parents, those left to cherish his memory include his stepfather, Wylie Gene Davidson; daughter, Raegan Kay Price and her mother, Christina Ann Polries, of Glen Daniel; brother, Jody Alan Price and wife, Jesse Elaine, of Arnett; sister, Jessica Dawn Price and companion, Christopher Lee Daniel, of Glen Daniel; stepbrother, Jamie Davidson and wife, Patty, of Harper; nieces and nephews, Christopher Price, Emily Daniel, Kayla Leigh Taylor and Jacob Bryan Price; Jeremy’s companion, Latisha Rene Jeffrey and her daughters, Kassandra Anne Cooper and Kayla Lynn Cooper, of Arnett; also survived by many special family members and friends.

Jeremy enjoyed spending all his time with his daughter, as well as his family and friends. He enjoyed the outdoors and had a great love for his dogs, Dixie, Ginger and Ace. He had a great love for music. Jeremy will be missed by many and has touched many lives.

He was a member of Flat Branch Baptist Church.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at the Flat Branch Baptist Church with Pastor Andrew Davis and the Rev. Chester Cochran officiating. Burial will follow at Massey Branch Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Terry Randal Price Jr., Chris Daniel, Jeffrey Stewart, Matthew Raines, Kevin McMillion, Randal McMillion and Derreck Davidson.

FORT STEWART, Ga. — Spec. Woodrow G. Spangler, 22, formerly of True, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at Fort Stewart, Ga.

Paul Garnet Samuel St. Clair

Paul went to be with the Lord at the age of 85 on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at Raleigh General Hospital after a long illness.

He was born March 8, 1924, at Barkers Ridge in Wyoming County, W.Va.

He was the son of the late Walter J. St. Clair and Elsie B. St. Clair of Beaver, W.Va. In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by three brothers, Elmer St. Clair of Beckley, John W. St. Clair of Wertz, Va., and Howard St. Clair of Beckley.

Those left to cherish his memory are two sisters, Margie Massey of Dayton, Ohio, and Leodia Shrewsbury of Beaver; and several nieces and nephews.

Paul was a retired mine official with the New River Company, where he retired in the late 70’s. He also was involved in mining at Carbondale, Colo., and Uranium mining in Grants, N.M.

He was a member of Spoken Word Tabernacle of Beaver, where he attended for many years.

Viewing will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at Spoken Word Tabernacle located at 305 Scott Ridge Road, Beaver. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at the church, with Pastor Roy E. Shrewsbury and ministers of the church officiating.

Pallbearers will be Charles Gravley, Ervil McKemy, Donald Sherman, Jerry Caldwell, Terry St. Clair and Randy Vest.

Virginia Lee Walker

Mrs. Virginia Lee Walker was born March 21, 1933, to the late Pete and Mamie Thompson in Fireco, W.Va.

Virginia received her education from the West Virginia school system.

Virginia accepted the Lord as her personal Saviour at an early age. She united with the Garden of Prayer Holiness Church in Washington, D.C., and later become a member of United Apostolic Faith Church until her death.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Walker; parents, Pete and Mamie Thompson; brothers, Clifford Slash, Elgin, Victor, Donell and Pete Thompson Jr.; sisters, Elnora Farris, Delila Walker, and Mae Spencer; son, Howard Walker Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter who cared for her, Elnora Bryant (Almond James) of Beckley; four sons, Clarence Walker of Atlanta, Ga.; Calvin Walker (Charlene) of Wheaton, Md.; Roger Walker of Washington, D.C.; Robert Walker of Beckley; two sisters, Mildred Hash of Winston-Salem, N.C.; Jacqueline Walker of Longbeach, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at United Apostolic Faith Church, 1010 S. Kanawha Street, Beckley, with Pastor Timothy Schofield officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.

Hildred Letha Walton

Hildred Letha Walton, age 82, of Oak Hill, surrounded by her family, went to meet the Lord Aug. 17, 2009, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.

Born June 24, 1927, at Sprague, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Gale E. and Cordelia Mary Childs.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Nelvina Farrar and Barbara Foley.

Those left to cherish her memory include her devoted husband, Carl Walton of Oak Hill; two daughters, Joan Overton and husband, Jim, of Parkersburg, Brenda Brown and husband, Jerry, of Hurricane; two sisters, Virginia Weaver of Duff, Tenn., Flossie Harvey of Raleigh; and a brother, Henry Childs of Britton, Mich.; four grandchildren, Robin Peters and husband, Tony, of Freeport, Ill., LeaAnn Overton of Martinsburg, J. Michael Overton of Parkersburg and Ryan Suzanne Brown of Pittsburgh, Pa.; three great-grandchildren, Christopher Overton of Burlington, Vt., Ty Lewis of Freeport, Ill., and Ethan Coleman of Martinsburg.

Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with the Rev. Houston Boothe and Larry Kitts officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Barry Blackburn, Ty Lewis, Timmy Farrar, J. Michael Overton, Christopher Overton and Kenneth Bailey.
