Elder David N. Bailey

JUMPING BRANCH — Elder David N. Bailey, 80, of Jumping Branch, formerly of Princeton, died Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Charleston Area Medical Center.

Born December 25, 1932, at Arista, he was the son of the late S. Kenneth Bailey and Ida Mae Wood Bailey.

Mr. Bailey was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired from Southern Gunite in Rocky Gap, VA. He was an elder in the Primitive Baptist Church for 36 years and loved serving the Lord. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 51 years, Ruby F. Owens Bailey, in 2005; one son, Kevin E. Bailey; and an infant great-grandchild.

Survivors include his second wife of seven years, Patty Bailey; one daughter, Beverly Quick and her husband Steve of Athens; one son, Teddy Bailey and his wife Linda of Speedway; five stepsons; two stepdaughters; two brothers, O. Allen Bailey and his wife Sue of Westover, AL, and Leland Bailey and his wife Terri of Princeton; five grandchildren; 12 stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Elder Tommy Pack officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Princeton. Family will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 25, 2013, from noon until service hour at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.

Dorlene M. Benger

ANSTED — Dorlene M. Benger, 91, of Ansted, passed away peacefully to be with the Lord, Saturday, June 22, 2013, after a courageous short illness.

Born August 26, 1921, at Powellton, WV, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Gertrude Miranda Kidd, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Other than her parents, Dorlene was preceded in death by her husband David T. Benger.

Those left to cherish her memory are children, David R. Benger of Ansted, daughters Ladonna Jane Benger of Fayetteville, Rhonda G. Fox of Ansted and son Mark R. Benger and wife Robin of Summersville.

Five Grandchildren David R. Benger ll and his wife Eve of Mesa, AZ, Stewart L. Fox and companion Stephanie Monroe and her son, Evan, of Ansted, Jayme C. Fox and wife Kristi of Ansted, Dr. Jeremy M. Benger, DO, and companion Jill Newhouse of Pittsburgh, PA, Tara Benger of Sevierville, TN. Five Great-grandchildren Cameron Behlert, Anthony J. Fox, Jessica L. Fox, Dakota Benger, and Tygart Benger.

Dorlene touched the lives of many people with her generosity and good cooking and baking, and maintained courage all the way to the end.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at the Trinity Assembly of God, Ansted, with Pastor Michael Angelona officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens, Victor.

Friends may gather with the family Tuesday from 1 p.m until service time at the church.

Lorena Ann Campbell Brooks

On Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at the age of 87 and the last living member of her family, our loving Mom, Mamaw and Great-Mamaw joined the angels in heaven. 

Lorena Ann Campbell Brooks, of Beckley, formerly of Fairdale, was born on June 10, 1926, in Bellburn, West Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Andrew (Doc) and Rosa Pittsenberger Campbell.

She was the owner of Lorena’s Beauty Shop in McRoss, a member of the Debora Rebeka Lodge 100 since 1966 where she was a past noble grand and secretary for many years and a member of the Breckenridge Missionary Baptist Church in Bolt.

Preceding her in death were her husband John (Bubby) Brooks; her parents-in-law William and Margie Brooks; 4 sisters Nola Sims, Verna Rhodes, Ama White and June Underwood; and 5 brothers Darrell, Gene, John, Curtis and Earl Campbell.

Survivors include her daughter Johnna Adkins of Beckley; her son Michael Brooks and wife Kaye of Beckley; grandsons Kristopher Adkins and Mindy of Stanaford, Justin Adkins and Brittani of Bradley and Nicholas Brooks of Morgantown and Beckley; a granddaughter Kaitlyn Brooks of Beckley; one great-granddaughter who could always bring a smile to Lorena’s face, Presley Adkins; 3 sisters-in-law Cora Spencer, Barbara Brooks and Lucille Campbell; one brother-in-law Fred Underwood; an ex-son-in-law Kermit Adkins; a special friend Lillie Pegram and lots of nieces and nephews. Johnna and Mike would like to thank all the very special people of Hospice of Southern WV for all they did for Lorena. They would also like to thank Pastor Dewey Lowe for always being there for Lorena and the family. God bless you all. God blessed us with a very special mom and now she is at peace and can rest. We love you!

Services will be 12 noon Tuesday, June 25, in the Breckenridge Missionary Baptist Church at Bolt with Pastor Dewey Lowe officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville. The service will conclude with the release of the White Flights.

Friends may call one hour before the service from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at the church.

Pallbearers will be grandson and nephews.

Ann Lee Collins

Ann Lee Collins, age 72, of Prosperity, WV, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at the Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Born on October 24, 1940, at Helen, WV, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Virginia Lyons.

She was a member of the Glen Morgan Missionary Baptist Church, and was a retired cook for the Raleigh County Board of Education.

Mrs. Collins was also preceded in death by her sister, Norma Jean Lyons, and by a daughter Norma Jean Collins.

Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her husband of 53 years, James Ray Collins; Three sons: Jeff Collins and his wife Shirley of Greensboro, NC; Ricky Collins of Greensboro, NC; and Eddie Collins and his wife Becky of Prosperity, WV.

Grandchildren: Lee Ann Collins of Prosperity, Aleisha Collins of Prosperity, Jeremy Collins of Ridgeway, Virginia, Jessi Pritt and her husband Elliott of Japan, Andy Stone of Oak Hill, and Cody Taylor of Pax.

Great-grandchildren: William Noah Jackson, Bayleigh Cheyenne Collins, of Ridgeway, Virginia, and Abel Pritt of Japan.

Mrs. Collins loved spending time with her family, relaxing, and playing a game of bingo.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at 3 p.m. at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley with Pastor Ernie Junior Moye officiating. Burial will follow at the Workman’s Creek Cemetery at Workman’s Creek.

Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Monday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Faye Elizabeth Farley

Faye Elizabeth Farley, 80, of Crab Orchard, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 22, 2013.

Born November 13, 1932, in Oakvale, WV, she was the daughter of the late George and Amy Kirby Dickerson.

Faye loved crocheting, playing games, working puzzles and spending time with her family. She was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Ted Farley, 5 brothers and sisters.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children Donald Farley of Coal City, Kathy Bays and her husband C.E. of Beckley, and Karen Sturgill of Beckley. Her brother Carl Dickerson and wife Molly of Princeton, sister Betty Peltiers and  her husband Art of Mich. 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, and her furry loving companion Jake. A host of nieces and nephews and beloved friends.

Services will be Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Pastor Damon Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers.

Family will receive friends from noon until service time Tuesday at the Funeral Home.

Emory C. Hornsby

UNION, S.C. — Mr. Emory “Bud” Hornsby, age 72, husband of Ann Bells Hornsby of 3472 Lockhart Hwy., Union, died Saturday, June 22, 2013, at his home.

Mr. Hornsby was born in Besoco, West Virginia, December 31, 1940, a son of the late Owen Pete Hornsby and Clara Bolen Hornsby. He was a graduate of Stoco High School in Coal City, West Virginia, and retired from the South Carolina Army National Guard. Mr. Hornsby was a member of the Church of God and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Andrea Hornsby Kirchner and husband, Karl, of Spartanburg; a son, Charles Hornsby and wife Juanita of Spartanburg; two sisters, Drema Nelson and Gale Dunford and husband Ernest all of West Virginia; two brothers, Ed Hornsby and wife Walley and Jim Hornsby and wife Peggy all of Virginia; three grandchildren: Kristin Kirchner of Spartanburg, Tyler Hornsby of West Virginia and Alleigha “Gabby” Hornsby of the home. Mr. Hornsby was predeceased by a brother, Trace Hornsby.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at Browns Creek Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. John Lee. Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.

The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6 until 8 p.m. at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Chelsey Allison Light

EDMOND — Chelsey Allison Light, 19, of Edmond, WV, died peacefully at home with her family on Saturday, June 22, 2013, after a courageous 2-year battle with cancer.

Born October 11, 1993, at Buckhannon, WV, she was the daughter of Craig and Melissa Light of Edmond, WV.

Chelsey was a Christian and a student at West Liberty College.

Other survivors besides her parents include one brother, Logan Light of Edmond, WV; grandparents, Lancel and Marie Light of Buckhannon, WV, and Steve and Barbara Fultz of Buckhannon, WV.

Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening, June 25, 2013, at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Chaplain Jimmy Mitchell officiating. Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Rocky Ford Methodist Church Cemetery at Buckhannon, WV.

Jerry Waylon Pack

GHENT — Jerry Waylon Pack, 26, of Ghent, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Services to celebrate the life of Waylon will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, at the Rose and Quesenberry Shady Spring Chapel with the Rev. Orville Setliff officiating. Interment will follow at Lane Cemetery on Farley Branch Road in Cool Ridge. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel in Shady Spring.
