Clifton Wayne Ashley

Clifton Wayne Ashley, age 66, of Beckley, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Charleston CAMC General Division.

He was born in Clear Creek, on August 4, 1947.

He was a coal miner, who worked at Maple Meadow Mining until his accident in 1978, and was a member of the UMWA and served in the United States Navy in 1965-1969. 2nd Timothy 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord the righteousness judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dorothy Mae Ashley; parents, Clifford and Genevie Ashley; grandparents, William and Alma Ashley, Noah Thomas and Nannie Bell Adkins; a special sister, Emogene Scicluna; six infant brothers and two infant sisters; brother in law, Donald Taylor; sister in law, Karen Queen; brother in law, Ronald Wriston;  in laws, Bill and Madeline Queen.

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Diana (Wriston) Ashley and their children:  Denise and Jim Fletcher; Cliff and Denise Ashley; Richard and Stephanie Ashley; Melissa and Adam Compton (a special son in law) and former wife Susie Atkins. Special daughters: Karen Legg, Courtney Deaton, Charlotte Helmick and Sherry Brown. Sisters: Marie Lilly and spouse, Paul and Pastor Loretta Taylor. Special brothers in law and spouses: Bryant and Norma Queen, Johnny Queen and Kelly and Barb Wriston. A special sister in law Patty Wriston. Special honorary son in law John Legg; six grandchildren, Amanda, Christopher, Alex, Andrea, Ava and Nicholas and eight great grandchildren, all whom he loved unconditionally. Special nieces and nephews Clifford Scicluna, Gino Scicluna, Gina Overstreet, Toni Barnes and Chris Wriston. Also, a special friend Henry Dunbar. Isaiah 59:21 As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the Lord; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed’s seed, saith the Lord, from henceforth and forever.

He was a member of Ewing Creek Church and attended many other churches over the years. He enjoyed singing and playing guitar, hunting and fishing when he was able. He loved reading his Bible and listening to the Kingsman Quartet. He loved playing and going to Sweet Frogs with his special Great Grandaughter Izzy.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at the Ewing Creek Church with Rev. Chris Wriston and Assistant Pastor Johnny Taylor officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity.

Pallbearers will be Clifford and Gino  Scicluna, Kent and Michael Taylor, John Legg, John Barnes, Dave Massey, Luther Ivey and Brian Zornes.

Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the family.
