Mack Albert Lewis Basham

Mack Albert Lewis Basham, age 83, of Cool Ridge, West Virginia, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2013, at the Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Born on January 13, 1930, at Mount View, WV, he was the son of the late Mack Basham and  Chloe Ransom Basham.

Mr. Basham was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA. He was a member of the Glen Morgan Missionary Baptist Church at Glen Morgan, where he served as a trustee. In his spare time Mr. Basham enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. Mr. Basham also served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Delta Basham, by a brother, Paul Basham, by an infant son David John Basham, by a grandson, Jason Carr, and by stepdaughters Dr. Carol Imes, and Debra Golden.

Surviving wife of nearly 20 years Dollie Furrow Golden Basham, his children, Pauline Pierce and her husband Paul of Eufaula, Oklahoma, Mary Ellen Lilly of Cool Ridge, William Basham and his wife Bert of Beckley, Kenneth Basham of Cool Ridge, stepchildren Brenda Golden of Daniels, Terri Robert of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Willie J . Golden of Mineral Wells, Texas.

Brothers, George Basham and his wife Margot of Shady Spring, Harland Basham and his wife Patty of Beckley, Palma Basham and his wife Becky of North Carolina, Leroy Basham and his wife Ann of Cool Ridge, Sisters: Lola Farley and her husband Les of Cool Ridge, and Wanda Tolliver and her husband Roger of Cool Ridge, WV.

Many Grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel on Friday, September 20, 2013, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Junior Moye officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV. Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Charlotte Bocook

FAYETTEVILLE — Charlotte Ruggles Bocook, 94, of Fayetteville, passed away Friday, September 13, 2013 at Hidden Valley Nursing Home, Oak Hill.

Born on June 10, 1919, at Winona, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Laura Morris Ruggles.

Mrs. Bocook was a homemaker.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Hamilton Bocook; and her son, David William Bocook.

Survivors include her two daughters, Debbie (Bobby) Green of Fayetteville and Sandra (Cecil) Lowry of Napa Valley, Calif. and six granddaughters, Michelle Lynn (George) Buehler of Elizabethtown, Ky. and Hollie (Thomas) Beckwith of Lexington Park, Md., Barbara Barnhart of Jackson, Calif., Karen Canzoneri of San Mateo, Calif., Amy Neilsen of Laguna, Calif. and Jennifer Carruthers of San Mateo, Calif.; many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Private graveside services were held on Sunday, September 15, 2013, at Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

Norma Jean Dillon Detamore

CRAIGSVILLE — Norma Jean Dillon Detamore, 68, of Craigsville passed away Saturday, September 14, 2013.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at Alderson Baptist Church, Craigsville, with Pastor Eddie Groves officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Tioga, W.Va.

Friends may call noon until 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at the church.

MINDEN — Barbara Ellen Sanger Fleshman, 74, of Minden, died on Sunday, September 15, 2013.

Lynn Renee Painter

On Thursday, Sept. 12th, 2013, our most cherished, Lynn Renee Painter of Mabscott, passed away. She was in her 39th year.

Born on April 8th, 1974, Lynn is the beloved daughter of Rhonda Lilley of Beckley and Nick Samiotis of Herndon, Va.

Lynn was an accomplished cosmetologist.

In addition to her parents, Lynn leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Montana Payne, Alexis and Michelle Painter, all of Staunton, Va.; she was the dear sister of A1C Jordan Lilley of Minot, AFB, ND; and her loving companion, Luke Houck of Mabscott.

On Wednesday, Sept. 18th, at 1 p.m.  we will recall the life of Lynn with a “Service of Remembrance” at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Paul Zutaut will be officiating. Lynn will be laid to rest in the Blue Ridge Gardens at Prosperity. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the service hour.

Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Shirley Ann Wright

Shirley Ann Wright, 75, of Glen Daniel, WV, went home to be with the Lord, on Saturday, September 14, 2013, at 6:24 p.m. in the Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, WV, after a short illness. She was born February 10th, 1938, in WV, a daughter of the late Cody and Bradie E. Peters Dickens; “she was born a Coal miner’s daughter.”

She attended Marsh Fork High and graduated in 1956. In that same year she moved to Chicago and met and married her husband, Jim Wright, on New Year’s Eve Night. On March 9, 1958, their only daughter, Peggy Ann Wright, was born. Shirley worked at Marsh Instrument Company, Skokie, IL, with 23 years of faithful service. Shirley and Jim moved back to WV on April 1, 1993, in Glen Daniel where she resides today. In 1997 she received Jesus as her Lord and Savior and became a member of the Arnett Chapel, Arnett, WV, where she served the Lord and enjoyed and loved her church family and Pastor. She was preceded in death by parents, Cody and Bradie E. Dickens; a sister, Betty Jean Adkins.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, James “Jim” Wright; a daughter, Peggy Ann Wright of Hammond, Ind.; newly adopted daughter, Cheryl Andereson of Hammond, Ind.; sister, Patty and Paul Webb of Lickwater, WV, brother, Tommy and Cheryl Dickens of Naoma, WV, sister, Rosie Lively also Naoma; several nieces, nephews and a host of church family and friends; one grandniece, baby Emma Rose.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon, September 18, 2013, at noon in the Arnett Chapel, Arnett, WV, with Pastor Larry Kinder and singer Charlie Shelton. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Mausoleum, Prosperity, WV.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Arnett church. Visitation for immediate family at 5.
