Raymond Bailey

GLEN ROGERS — Raymond Bailey, 74, of Glen Rogers, passed away Friday, June 21, 2013, at his home.

Born December 27, 1938, he was the son of the late Matts Bailey and Ida Mae Blankenship Bailey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by two brothers, Earl Bailey and Robert Bailey, and two sisters, Pearl Bailey and Pansy Brooks.

Those left to cherish Raymond’s memory are two brothers, Ivan Dean Bailey and Kelly Bailey, both of Glen Rogers; a sister, Virgie McClain of Ravencliff; and stepsons, Willis Lafferty of Glen Rogers and James Lafferty of Glen Rogers.

In keeping with his wishes, Raymond will be cremated and there will be no services.

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — Lois Jane Titmus Copenhaver, 72, of White Sulphur Springs, died Saturday, June 22, 2013.

PETERSTOWN — Ellen Mae Munsey Griggs, 82, of Peterstown, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013.

Roger Dale Harris

Roger Dale Harris, 69 years old, died peacefully in his sleep at 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, at his home in Stanaford, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born March 3, 1944, to Tom and Hazel Harris of Stanaford and was of the Baptist faith.

He served in the United States Navy and earned an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He retired from MSHA after 27 years as a federal mine inspector. After retirement he worked part time at Foodlion.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters Florence Harris, Mary Ann Harris, both of Stanaford, and Arlene Foster of Georgia, brother Don Harris of North Carolina and a niece Debbie Noti of New York.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Diane Ewing Harris, who was faithfully by his side for 48 1/2 years, and daughters Michelle Haga and Jennifer Deel. He was the beloved “papa” of grandchildren: Brittani, Krista, Gus, Shay, Cheyenne and Harley and great-grandchildren Elijah and Presley. He is also survived by his brothers Tom Harris and wife Blanche of Virginia, Kenneth Harris of New York, Russell Harris and wife Diana of Stanaford, John Harris and wife Janice of Tennessee, and Gary Harris and wife Wanda of New York. Sisters Thelma Spears and husband John of Ohio and Lou Fox and husband James of Stanaford. His wife’s family Barbara Wood, Sharon and Jim Smith, Vetta Chapman, and Larry Ewing, numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends including Bill and Patty Lane of Stanaford.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Pastor Everette Meadows officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Friends may gather with the family Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kenneth Kidwell

Kenneth Kidwell of Beckley, formerly of Orgas, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at the Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley.

He was born March 12, 1923, at Whitesville, W.Va., a son of the late Levi and Delphia Workman Kidwell.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by a son, Michael E. Kidwell; sisters, Betty Osborne, Margie Cartwright; and a brother, Teddy Kidwell.

He is survived by three daughters, Sheila Webb of Pinch, W.Va., Blondena and George Hendrick of Arnett, and Teresa and Cecil Johnson of Franklin, N.C.; former wife, Susie Kidwell; grandchildren, Elden Dale Webb III, Michael Paul Webb, Amber Akers, Chris Hendrick, Susan Ferrell, Rachel Olivarri, Erin Hinson, Tracye Holland, Adam Johnson; two special great-grandchildren, Serenity and Taylin, and 35 total great-grandchildren.

Service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at the Pineview Cemetery Mausoleum at Orgas. Interment will follow in Pineview Cemetery.

James A. Lester Sr.

PINEVILLE — James A. Lester Sr., 61, of Pineville, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013, following a long illness.

Born January 7, 1952, at Pineville, he was the son of the late William Clarence Lester and Edna Louise Spencer Lester.

Mr. Lester was of the Baptist faith. He was a proud member of the UMWA District 17. He enjoyed working on cars, model cars, NASCAR and being with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Johnathan Edward Lester; grandson, Jonathan Grant Lester; nephew, Cubby Barber; and niece, Sandra Barber.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Gloria Thacker Lester of the residence; a son, James Hoey Lester Jr. and his wife, Tina, of Ramey Addition; daughter, Belinda Lester and her fiancé, Kevin Stewart, of Pineville; brother, Bill Lester of Georgia; two sisters, Betty Milam and her husband, Carl, of Pineville, Janet Barber and her husband, Frankie, of Lillydale; two grandchildren, Brian James Lester and Emily Danielle Stewart.

OAK HILL — John Lewis Massey, 48, of Oak Hill, passed away Friday, June 21, 2013, at Plateau Medical Center.

Born November 13, 1964, the son of Jerry John Massey and Annetta Blanche DeLung Massey.

John was preceded in death by his father Jerry John Massey in February 2011.

Those left to cherish his memory include his mother Annetta Blanche (DeLung) Massey of Scarbro; his former wife and mother of his daughter Kellie (Sears) Massey; one daughter Brittany Renea Massey; and three brothers Jerry D. Massey and wife of Loganville, Ga., Ricky N. Massey and wife Heneritta of Dothan, and Robert E. Massey and wife Lucille of Mossey.

Jerry Waylon Pack

GHENT — Jerry Waylon Pack, age 26, of Ghent, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2013, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

He was born on September 18, 1986, in Concord, NC, to Lisa Bragg Pack Galford and David Gomez of Ghent and the late Jerry Allen Pack.

Waylon enjoyed riding motorcycles, playing video games, and keeping in touch with friends on Facebook. He attended the Ghent Church of God. Waylon was also previously employed with the Budweiser warehouse off of Airport Road in Beaver.

In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by an uncle, Michael Bragg; grandfathers, Cyrus Bragg and Floyd Kirkland.

In addition to his mother, other survivors include his sisters, Jennifer Brooks of Florida, Marilyn Britton of Florida, and Loretta Brooks of Florida; grandparents, Frankie Bragg of Ghent, Ann Pack and husband Bud, and James and Frieda Pack; and a host of other family and friends.

Services to celebrate the life of Waylon will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at the Rose and Quesenberry Shady Spring Chapel with Rev. Orville Setliff officiating. Interment will follow at Lane Cemetery on Farley Branch Road in Cool Ridge.

Waylon’s friends will serve as pallbearers.

Harold Richardson

Harold Richardson, 75, of Crab Orchard, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family and Pastor on Saturday, June 22, 2013, after a four-month battle with cancer.

Born May 23, 1938, in Rhodell, W.Va., to the late Wilton Richardson and Bonnie Kamit Richardson.

Harold enjoyed old cars and was a faithful member of the Beckley Church of God. Harold also served our country in the United States Marine Corps.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Shelby Wooton.

Those surviving include his loving wife of 54 years, Mrs. Cliffene M. Richardson; son, Teddy Richardson of Crab Orchard; stepsons, Tony, Gary, Giles McKinney of Virginia; daughter, Joy Hammond of Crab Orchard; sisters, Doris, Barbara, Anna, Patsy, and Greta; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services to celebrate the life of Harold will be conducted at 12 noon on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at the Beckley Church of God located on South Kanawha Street in Beckley with Rev. F.D. Sexton and Pastor Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley with the American Legion Post 32 Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites.

Donna Faye Stump, 58, of Coal City, went home to be with the Lord and was reunited with her beloved husband, Jim.

Donna was born January 8, 1955, in Beckley to Frances Ann Underwood Chaffin and the late Jack Chaffin.

She loved doing crafts, quilting and reading, but above all spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her beloved husband, James Lee Stump, she was preceded in death by her father, Jack Chaffin, and a sister, Theresa Gayle Chaffin.

In addition to her mother, those left to cherish her memory include her loving sons, Michael Chaffin of Coal City and Jamey Chaffin and wife, Sara, of Coal City; three grandchildren, Zachary, Britney, and Kayla Chaffin, all of Coal City; sister, Sheila Knight; brother, Jackie Chaffin and wife, Peggy, of Beckley; niece, Jessica Stiltner of Crab Orchard; nephew, Phillip Cadle of Crab Orchard; extended family and a host of friends.

Frank Turner

Frank H. Turner, 88, of Beckley, passed away at his home on Wednesday, June 19, 2013.

Born on May 27, 1925, at Renick, W.Va., he was the son of the late Greeley P. Turner and Nellie B. Perkins Turner.

Mr. Turner was a retired farm manager at the Pinecrest Hospital in Beckley with 39 years of service. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during WWII. He was of the Presbyterian faith, and enjoyed gardening.

Mr. Turner was a Beckley resident for most of his life.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalee Turner, by a sister, Marjorie Cook, and by brothers Gene and Dale Turner.

Surviving are his children, Dennis Turner and his wife Linda of Chesapeake, Va., Marilyn Sue Phillips and her husband Lionel of Grandview; three grandchildren, Jennifer O’Neal, Rachel Pridgen, and John Turner, and several great-grandchildren also survive.

Mr. Turner was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Orville Setliff officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley.

James A. Walls Sr.

James A. Walls Sr., age 73, of Prosperity, formerly of Belle, went home to be with our Lord June 20, 2013, following a long illness.

Mr. Walls was born on August 18, 1939, in Gilbert, W.Va., and was the son of the late Leander “Lee” Walls and Orpha Bell Browning Walls.

He attended Baileysville High School in Mingo County before joining the U.S. Marine Corps. After serving in the Marine Corps, he relocated to Belle, where he worked as an upholsterer for more than 40 years, and owned Walls Upholstery for most of that time.

James was an active member of the Belle Church of the Nazarene for 37 years. He served as a board member, Sunday school superintendent, choir member, and song leader. He is probably best remembered for singing solos in church, and at local funerals.

James leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Frankie Walls of Beckley; daughter Amanda Walls Wellman, her husband Steve Wellman, grandsons J.C. Wellman and Joshua Wellman of Beckley; son James Walls Jr., his wife Jewell Nichols Walls, granddaughter Amber Walls Reeves of Belle; daughter Alisa Walls, grandson Chase Buonasera, granddaughter Christiana Walls of Beckley; brothers Darryl Walls of Lynco, Arley Walls of Oceana, Lowell Walls of Verner; and sister Florence Cline of Belle.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his sisters Opal Lester and Betty Woolum, brothers Teddy Walls, Danny Walls, Cecil Ardell Walls, three grandsons, and various aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at Palm Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Matheny, W.Va. Rev. Gary Browning will officiate. Friends may meet one hour prior to services. Mercer County Veteran’s Honor Guard will perform military rites.

The family will receive visitors at Melton Mortuary, 1200 Harper Road, Beckley, on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Charles Warren ‘CW’ Wickline

Charles Warren “CW” Wickline, 46, of Jonben, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2013.

Born December 23, 1966, in Beckley, he was the son of the late Bishop Wickline and Dorothy Lilly.

CW loved spending time with his family, enjoying the outdoors, and dearly loved his grandchildren. He enjoyed trading with his friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law Ramona and Timothy Walker.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife Roberta Mae Lilly Wickline, his son Michael Linkous, his three daughters Stormie Lilly Gowman and her husband Chris, Tiffany Wickline Cochran and her husband Daniel, and Brittany Wickline; four sisters Faye Hughes and her husband Shawn, Billie Lowe, Margaret Fletcher and her companion Ben Smith, and Linda Hawley: his brother William “Sonny” Wickline; three grandchildren and one more expected on January 7, 2014. Also three aunts and a host of nieces, nephews and beloved friends.

Services will be held Thursday, June 27, 2013, at 1:45 p.m. at the Kenneth Lilly Cemetery on Ellison Ridge in Flat Top, with the Rev. Kenny Lambert officiating.
