Lena Giovanni Ramella

Lena Giovanni Ramella, 92, of Daniels, formerly of Welch, passed away Monday, March 3, 2014.

Born February 3, 1921, in Sicily, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Francesca Rasi.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Roosevelt Ramella; sister, Maria Oliver; and brother, Francesco “Frank” Rasi.

Lena was a former sales clerk for McDowell Supply Co. She was a member of St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church and former member of St. Peters Catholic Church and St. Theresa’s Society in Welch as well as the garden club. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and gardening.

She is survived by her sons, David Ramella and Dennis Ramella both of Daniels and Reno Ramella and his wife Drema of Charleston, W.Va.; grandson, Joseph Ramella of Hurricane, W.Va.; sister, Thelma Dina Rasi of Bluefield, Va.; and brother, Dionigi (Dan) Rasi and his wife Nancy of Bluefield, W.Va.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A funeral liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014, at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church with Monsignor Samuel Sacus and Father Patrick McDonough officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell.

Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Calfee Funeral Home where a rosary will be recited at 7:45 p.m. led by Rev. Mr. Don Wise.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Ramella, Jerry Rasi, Mike Munsey, Monte Ramella and other family members and friends.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church, 614 S. Oakwood Ave., Beckley, WV 25801, or to St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 111 Virginia Ave., Welch, WV 24801.

Athos ‘Stack’ Roy

RAINELLE — Athos “Stack” Roy, 87, of Rainelle, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014, in the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center at Fairlea, following a short illness.

Born March 11, 1926, in Rainelle, he was the son of the late Wesley and Ollie Crookshanks Roy.

Stack operated a small engine repair shop in Rainelle until he retired. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Rainelle.

In addition to his parents, Stack is preceded in death by his brothers Alvin Roy and wife Margie, Aven Roy and wife Mary; his sister Ava “Sis” Roy; and his nephew Ronald Roy.

Surviving Stack are his niece Karen Roy Tuisku and husband Paul of Rocky River, Ohio; his niece Annabelle Roy of Lowell, Ind., and numerous grand/great-nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank all the friends, church members and neighbors for all the kindness, generosity and support they provided to both Sis and Stack for many years.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, at Smathers Funeral Chapel, Inc., with Pastor and friend Keith Shumaker officiating. Burial will follow in the Big Sewell Church Cemetery on Sewell Mountain.

Friends may call one hour before the service from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
