Dolly May McKinney Ball

OAK HILL — Dolly May McKinney Ball, 49, of Oak Hill, died on Monday, February 17, 2014.

Funeral services will be on Friday, February 21, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill. Burial will be at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.

Donna Rosella Blevins

Donna Rosella Blevins, 58, of Soak Creek, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 17, 2014.

Born December 29, 1955, in Sophia, she was the daughter of the late William and Pearl Milam.

Donna enjoyed fishing, watching movies, and spending time with her grandchildren, playing video games, doll collecting and accessorizing, swimming and tanning. She loved listening to country music, gardening and landscaping. Donna also collected DVDs and porcelain angels. She was a graduate of Sophia High School and of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, Donna was preceded in death by Jewell Cox and William Milam Jr.; brothers-in-law, Pat Hylton and Johnny Cox.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, James Blevins of Sophia; sons, Michael James Blevins Sr. and wife Kathy of Midway, David Eugene Blevins and wife Tina of Ansted, Scottie Lee Blevins of Posey Saxton, W.Va.; grandchildren, Brett Blevins, Michael James Blevins Jr., Tori Brown, Mason Blevins, Shay Alderman, Alana Alderman; four sisters, Mary Jane Hylton of Beckley, Barbara Milam of Lawton, Okla., Elizabeth McCloud and husband Robert of South Carolina, Brenda Wix and husband, Sonny of Hopewell, Va.; two brothers, Jimmy Milam of Hopewell, Va., Charles Milam and Emily Boggus of Hopewell, Va.; nieces, nephews and a host of beloved friends.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 20, 2014, at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Pallbearers will be Scottie Blevins, Brett Blevins, Michael James Blevins, Sr., Michael James Blevins Jr., Mason Haze Blevins, and John Ara.

Irene Florence Bragg

Irene Florence Bragg, age 84, of Beckley, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 16, 2014 following an extended illness.

Born on the 18th day of May in 1929 in Thayer, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ethel Smith.

Irene avidly read her Bible daily and was an active member of the Wesleyan Chapel on Johnstown Road in Beckley up until her illness. She also enjoyed gardening flowers. Irene was also President of the Stanaford Cemetery Association in Stanaford, W.Va.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Bragg; and her siblings: Ralph Adkins, Gladys Ewing, Emmogene O’Neal, Evelyn McMillion, and James, Emmit, Robert, Arlie, and Howard Smith.

Those left to carry on her legacy include her sons, William Bragg and wife Sue and Glenn Bragg Jr.; daughters, Mary Lilly and husband David and Glenna Bragg; sister, Geraldine Walker of Alexandria, Va.; brother, Houston Smith; grandchildren, Jeff Lilly and wife Lindsay, Herbert Bragg, Henry Bragg, Tammy Barker and husband Robbie, and Rachel Bragg; great grandchildren, Ainsley Lilly, Ayla Lilly, and Peyton and Jacob Barker and also a multitude of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

Services to celebrate the life of Irene Bragg will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 21, 2014 at the Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel in Beckley with Rev. Dennis Epperly, Rev. Gene Terry, and Rev. John Hart officiating.

Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

SUMMERSVILLE — John Wesley Brown, 88, of Summersville, died Thursday, February 13, 2014.

Michael ‘Bubba’ George

Jesus has called our precious angel home, Michael Shawn “Bubba” George II, age 15, to his heavenly home on Saturday, Feb. 15th, 2014. Michael died at his home in Bolt, after a courageous battle with a lifelong illness.

Michael was born on March 6th, 1998. He is the son of Michael and Desiree George of Fairdale and Nashayla Sydenstricker, his natural mother of Beckley. He is the beloved grandson of Rusty and Sandy Musick of Bolt with whom he lived for several years.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Tammie Byrd Snuffer.

Other than his parents and grandparents, Michael is survived by sisters, Hallie George and fiancé, Scott Simmons of Sophia, Michaela George of Bolt, Trinity Jackson of Fairdale; brothers, Kace George of Fairdale, and Dillon Jackson of Beckley.

Paternal grandfather, Jackson George of MacArthur; great grandmother, Agnes Snuffer of Crab Orchard and Patty Keene of Piney View; great grandparents, John and Indie McCarty of Colonial Heights, Va.; Uncles, David (Rebecca) George of Summerville, S.C., Carl (Sabrina) Musick of Glen Daniel, Rusty (Sherrie) Musick of Arnett; Aunts, Brandy (Randall) Stover of Glen Daniel, Indie Musick and Carla Musick of Bolt, Dustie (Shawn) Terry of Eccles, Gale Musick of Pinnacle, N.C., Judy Musick of Sandlick, Lisa Brown of Glen White, and Phylicia Riley of Glen White.

Twenty six cousins survive, as well as lifelong friends, India Hosch, Wendy Epling, and Patty Varney, whom Michael loved dearly.

Services will be Thursday, Feb. 20th, at 3 p.m. at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Pastor Jess Farley will be officiating. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the service hour.

Due to the weather, the committal service will be held in the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Michael will be laid to rest in the family cemetery at Bolt.

 Pallbearers will be Michael’s parents and Lonnie Acord, Brenda Workman, James Boggess and Randall Stover.

Carmel Ann Bower Parrish

Riverview, Fla. — Carmel Ann Bower Parrish, 72, of Riverview, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2014, in LifePath Hospice in Sun City, Fla., following her battle with cancer. Carmel was affectionately known to many as “Granny.”

Born November 4, 1941 in Saulsville, W.Va. Carmel was the daughter of Rev. James W. Bower and Ada Pendry Bower.

Carmel retired as an accounts payable/receivable clerk with Baycare Health System in Tampa, Fla. She loved her job and worked with wonderful people who were her extended family.

In addition to her parents, Carmel was preceded in death by four brothers, James Bower Jr., the Rev. Carlos Bower, Harry A. Bower and Herbert N. Bower, and two sisters, Betty Sarver and Margaret Cooper.

Survivors include her husband of 38 years Robert E. Parrish; her only child Cynthia A. Harden and her husband Douglas of Florida; stepdaughter Marlene Birchfield of Beckley; stepson George Parrish and his wife DeDe of Texas. She had four grandchildren, Erica Ann Klaue of Beckley, Nicholas Birchfield and wife Gwenn of New Hampshire, Misty Dawn Brown and husband Charles of Beckley, Logan Michael Parrish Prosper, Texas. She had nine great grandchildren, Hannah RayAnn Klaue, Douglas Jayden Klaue, Bradley Laris Brown, Madeline Ashton Brown, Gavin Scott Harold Brown, Kaison Garrett Brown, Grady Birchfield, Tristen Birchfield; two brothers, Clifton Bower of Huntington, Bob Bower and wife Sue of Maple Meadow; four sisters, Lena Lewis and husband, Billy of Rockford, Ill., Eva Kite of Lake City, Fla., Bonnie Alice McNeal and husband Bobby of Sesser, Ill., Janie Stover and Harry of Glen Daniel, and many special nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Lifepath Hospice in Sun City, Fla. All of the special family members who remained by her side until the angels took her home.

Granny was loved by all who knew her. She was supportive, encouraging and generous. Granny was fun to be around and her many “Grannyisms” will keep us laughing for years to come.

OAK HILL — Lewis A. Pogorelski, 81, of Oak Hill, died on Tuesday, February 18, 2014.

Terry A. Stone

Terry Allen Stone of Purity Hill, Eccles, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 15th, 2014, at the Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a short illness. He was 47 years of age.  

The youngest of four children, Terry was born on August 21, 1966. He is the beloved son of Jerome and Margaret Pugh Stone of Purity Hill.   

Terry was a graduate of Liberty High School and the Pennsylvania School of Gunsmithing. He was a master gunsmith. Terry worked in the coal industry for a number of years and was employed by the Raleigh County Commission on Aging. He will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. Terry was also a huge Pittsburgh Steeler fan.

In addition to his parents, those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Kassie Halstead of Bradley; his sisters, Jeronna Browning and her husband, Richard of Fairdale, and Susan Bond and her husband, Jim of Midway, and a brother, Jerome “Pete” Stone and his wife, Patty of White Oak and his beloved dog Shania.

Terry leaves his nieces and nephews, Robert (Kristen) Browning, Beth (Dwayne) Williams, Russ (Laura) Bond, Phillip (Jocelyn) Bond, Misty Stone, Keith (Lindsey) Stone and Chris (Staci) Stone; Great nieces and nephews, Tripp, Jack and Savannah Browning, Rachel and Layne Williams, Sawyer Bond, Madison, Erin, Josie, Colt and Sadie Stone.

On Thursday, Feb 20th, at 11 a.m., we will honor the life of Terry with a “Service of Remembrance” at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Pastors, Garry Hall and Dick Sellards will be officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services.

Marvin Eugene ‘Tugene’ Thomas, II

WINCHESTER, VA. — Marvin Eugene Thomas II, affectionately known as “Tugene”, 51, Winchester, a native of Lillybrook, passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2014. His death was sudden and unexpected.

Tugene was born on November 30, 1962, in Lillybrook, W.Va., the eldest son of Marvin Eugene Thomas Sr. and the late Margaret Ann Thomas Reynolds.

Tugene was athletic and popular throughout his school years. He graduated from Independence High School, Coal City, W.Va., in 1980 and attended Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va.  

He was employed with Kirby Company while in Ohio and remained an employee until his death. Anyone who knew him knew his passion for the company’s products. During his career he won numerous sales awards.

He is survived by his father, Marvin Eugene Thomas Sr. of Winchester; three brothers, Gordon Thomas of Charleston, W.Va., Jeffrey Thomas (Sheana) of Winchester, and Eric Thomas (Regina) of Beckley; two daughters, Déjà Thomas of Youngtown, Ohio and Téa Thomas of Lewisburg, W,Va.; a grandson, Albert Donald Byrd (mother Déjà ) and a great Uncle, a great Aunt, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins who will miss him dearly.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 22, 2014, at the Cartwright Funeral Home in Winchester, Va. at 11 a.m.

Clara J. Tilley

PINEVILLE — Clara J. Tilley, 80, of Pineville, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, February 15, 2014, following a long illness.

Born July 31, 1933, in Wyoming County, she was the daughter of the late Sherman Morgan and Cora Etta Hatfield Morgan.

Clara attended the Sweet Divine Baptist Church. She enjoyed going to church, visiting family, baking and being with her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William D. “Bill” Tilley, a son, Malcom David Tilley, two brothers, Sherman “Red” and Bilton Morgan, three sisters, Frances Yeager, Marie Hall and Edna Tolda

Survivors include her sons Tim Tilley and his wife, Melody of Bolt, Shawn Tilley and his wife, Kathy of Pineville; a  sister, Opal Hill of Elkton, Md.; five grandchildren, Chris, Adam, David, Courtney and Alyssa Tilley and one great-grandchild, Lakyn Tilley.

A celebration of Clara’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 20, 2014, at the Sweet Divine Baptist Church with the Rev. David Cook and Rev. Donald “Doc” Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Privett Family Cemetery, Keyrock.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, February 19, 2014, in the Calfee Funeral Service Chapel.  

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — Beverly Ann Wiley, 63, of White Sulphur Springs, died early Thursday morning, February 13, 2014.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, February 21, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the St. James United Methodist Church on Church Street, with Rev. Greg Scott officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhill Cemetery, White Sulphur Springs. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church.
