Herndon Duel Bragg

Herndon Duel Bragg, age 76, of Daniels, WV, went home to be with the Lord at his residence on Thursday, February 13, 2014, following a short illness.

Born on July 14, 1937, he was the son of the late Londie Lewis Bragg and Mary Keffer Bragg.

Mr. Bragg was a member of the UMWA, was a retired coal miner, and was a member of the Gospel Chapel in Daniels, WV.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Bragg, a sister Naona Craighead, a granddaughter, Mary Suzanne Pate, and his stepmother Delsie Bragg.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife Lavina Bragg, who was the love of his life; seven children, Debbie Cooper and husband Ronnie of Beaver, Nancy Torrence of Harper, Rita Taylor of Daniels, Doug Bragg and wife Lisa of Shady Spring, Mary Goode and husband Mike of Glen Daniel, Scott Bragg and wife Alisha of Daniels, and Shane Bragg and wife Hollie of Crab Orchard.

Ten brothers and sisters, Richard Bragg and wife Mary of Christiansburg, Virginia, Macel Stone and husband Bunny of Christiansburg, Virginia, Barbara Gilberth and husband Bobby of Ellison, Virginia, Dale Bragg and wife Colleen of Radford, Virginia, Wanda Showalter of Arizona, David Akers of Tennessee, Phyllis Self of Virginia, Marie Cunningham and husband Jimmy of Ellison, Virginia, Sue Dickerson and husband Brownie of Christiansburg, Virginia, and Oral Bragg and wife Lisa of Johnson City, Tennessee, A brother-in-law, Paul Craighead of Virginia. He was affectionately referred to as PawPaw Hun by his 23 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Services to Celebrate The Life Of Herndon Duel Bragg will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel with Pastors Luke Richmond, Junior Plumley, and Dean Adams officiating. Following the services Mr. Bragg will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV.  Friends may visit with the family from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.  Pallbearers will be Kenny Cooper, Ryan Bragg, Jake Saye, Keith Saye, Eric Pate, Jeremy  Meador, Jared Tredway, and Randy White. Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Bragg, Dakota Bragg, and Caleb Hannah.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Kabbara and his staff, and his special nurse, Andi, for their wonderful care that was given to Herndon.

OCEANA — Samantha Dixon, “Aunt Sam,” 100, passed away Friday, Feb. 14, 2014.

Elsie Jean Dorado

MOUNT HOPE — Elsie Jean Dorado, age 95, of Mt. Hope, WV, is celebrating in heaven with her family and friends, as of Friday, February 14, 2014.

She was born in Kersley, England, in 1918 and raised from early childhood in Minden, WV, as the daughter of Fred and Martha Barnes.

Elsie was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Sam Dorado, her eldest son Sam and her brother Alfred Barnes. Elsie’s daughter Janet (Robert) Yost, son Bob (Donna) Dorado and nephew Bob were with her as she got this promotion. She was blessed to enjoy time with her six grandchildren: Bob Dorado, Michael (Danielle) Dorado, Cathy Templeton, Amy (Doug) Parent, Mario (Merium) Dorado and Marcus Dorado. She also knew and loved her six great-grandchildren: Sydney and Sophia Templeton, Marshall Dorado, Alexis and Anthony Dorado, and Faith ReAnn Dorado. Surviving family members include Ms.  Helen DiOdoardo, Ms. Lena Uliano, Ms. Mary Barnes and numerous nieces and nephews.

Elsie was a lifelong member of the Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church where she was active in the Women’s Circle. She was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star. As a young lady Elsie worked at the Minden Company Store and later at Kelly’s Drug Store in Oak Hill where she met her husband Sam. She, Sam and their sons owned and operated the American Hardware Store in Mt. Hope.  

Elsie was a caregiver and server of others.

The family wishes to thank her caregivers: Ms. Freda Adkins, Ms. Kim Kincaid and Ms. Pam Warwick from Mt. Hope, and Donna Stewart, BJ White and Juanita Frye of the Huntington area for their faithful service and a special friend Ms. Peggy Bibb for her caring.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Beth Stone and Rev. Richard Allen officiating. Burial will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park at Oak Hill, WV. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Monday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Judith Ann Goddard

Judith Ann “Judy” Goddard, 82, of Stanaford Acres, passed away Friday, February 14, 2014, on Valentine’s Day by the side of her sweetheart of 62 years, Wilbur Russell Goddard.

Born October 14, 1931, in Winding Gulf, WV, she was the only daughter of the late Thomas Vance and Nellie Mae Blevins of Midway, WV.

She was a homemaker, a retired English teacher, former Sunday school teacher and member of Memorial Baptist Church for 45 years and devoted mother to her three boys.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas Vance “Junior” Blevins of Coal City and Fred  Paul “Freddie” Blevins of Midway, WV.

Left to cherish her memories are her husband, Wilbur Goddard; her three sons, Mike and his wife Debbie of Beckley, Pat and his wife Glenna of Mooresville, NC, and Len of Huntington, WV; One brother whom she raised as a son, Tom Blevins of Midway; grandchildren, Michele (husband Street) Sarrett of Beckley, Jeff (wife Rebecca) Goddard of Mooresville, NC, Chris (wife Sonnie) Goddard of Beckley, and Chandra (husband Shane) McPherson of Beckley: Great-Grandchildren Madeline, Mackenzie and Macy Sarrett; Emily, Sam and Ansley Goddard, Cailee and Andi Goddard, and Aiden McPherson.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Monday, February 17, 2014, at the Memorial Baptist Church, 1405 South Kanawha Street in Beckley, WV, with Pastors Dr. Charles Bright and Dr. James Boyd officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV.

Pallbearers will be Shane McPherson, Chad “Street” Sarrett, Chuck Blevins, Jeff Goddard, Chris Goddard and  Keith Searls.

Friends may call at the Memorial Baptist Church on Monday 12 to 2 p.m. prior to the service.

FRANKFORD — Paula Ann Legg, 51, passed away at her residence in Frankford.

Born December 9, 1962, at Ronceverte, she was the daughter of the late William Paul Legg.

Paula was a Custodian IV at Eastern Greenbrier Middle School in Fairlea.

She is survived by two sisters, Lisa McRae of Rockingham, N.C., and Charlotte Sheppard (Allen) of Fairlea; special nephew, Paul Deitz (Christy), and niece Hannah, of South Charleston, WV; a “special mother” Rose Lee Ingram of Frankford, WV; two aunts, Louise Legg and Annie Fuller (Seldon) all of Frankford, WV; much-loved cousins and many friends. She also had a loving canine companion, Belle.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg. Private burial will be at a later date.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday.
