Clarence Calvin ‘Gabby’ Hayes Jr.

MEADOW BRIDGE — Clarence Calvin “Gabby” Hayes Jr., 75, of Meadow Bridge, passed away Friday, January 31, 2014, in the Beckley VA Hospital, following a short illness.

Born September 7, 1938, in Lockbridge, he was the son of the late Clarence and Delpha McGraw Hayes, Sr.

Gabby worked as a salesman and was a member of the Lick Creek Baptist Church at Green Sulphur Springs. He enjoyed woodworking for others and could never fish enough. Gabby served in the U.S. Air Force just before the Viet Nam War. He never met a stranger and loved unconditionally.

Survivors include his wife Mary Ann Adkins Hayes; one son Mike Hayes and his wife Rama of Meadow Bridge; one daughter Javeanie Meadows and husband Tom of Meadow Bridge; three sisters Zeda Lavender of Flushing, Michigan, Rita Thomas and husband Chuck of Otisville, Michigan, and Jeana Carrier and husband Dave of Houston, Texas; one grandson Shaun Meadows and wife Jamie of Beckley and one granddaughter Monica Meadows of Meadow Bridge.

The body was cremated and there will be no service.

Patricia Lee Kerbawy

Patricia Lee Kerbawy, 56 of Beckley,  passed away on Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at Raleigh General Hospital following a short illness.

Burk Maynard Martin

QUINWOOD — Burk Maynard Martin, 72, of Quinwood, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, following a long illness.

Born May 6, 1941, at Richwood, he was the son of the late Aud and Ruth Bittner Martin.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Martin and a granddaughter, Christina Osborne.

Burk was a member of the First Baptist Church of Quinwood, a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Nora Lee McDaniel Martin of Quinwood; a son, Dwayne “Cornbread” Martin and wife, Patty of Quinwood; a daughter, Vickie Whitlock and husband, Perry of Quinwood; two grandchildren, Laurie Starcher and Jennifer Whitlock; four great-grandchildren, Ethan and Kayla Starcher, Caiden and Jocelyn Naylor; three brothers, Kyle Martin and wife, Drema of Leivasy, W.Va., Steve Martin of Leivasy and James Martin of Leivasy; a sister-in-law, Janet McDaniel of Crawley, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, with Pastor Chad Rodes officiating, assisted by Pastor Ryan Trescott. Burial will follow in the Carl Cemetery at Carl, W.Va.

Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Friday evening at t he funeral home.

The family would like to give special thanks to Quinwood Ambulance and the nurses at Home Care Plus.
