Mildred Faye Johnson Acord

OCEANA — Mildred Faye Johnson Acord, 85, of Oceana, WV, gained her wings on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, WV.

She was born March 21, 1928, at Clear Fork, WV, the oldest daughter of the late Mac Conrad and Lula Bailey Johnson.

Mildred was a homemaker, a member of the Ladies Aux. to the VFW post 8364, Wyoming County FXT Homemakers, Ocean Band Boosters, member of the Toneda Missionary Baptist Church, and the Missionary Women’s. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and Aunt. With her gift of gab she never met a stranger.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years Lloyd Clinton Acord and one son Danny Lee Acord, sister Narcissa Hatfield, and brothers James and Darrell Johnson.

She is survived by her son Lloyd Curtis Acord and wife Judy of Ghent, four daughters, Brenda Louise Lovins and her husband Michael of Oceana, LaDonna Sue Acord of the home, Doris Ann Reed and her husband Mickey of Bolt, Bonita Faye Sayre and her husband Douglas of Daniels, a daughter-in-law Terry Acord of Oceana, siblings Wayville Johnson and his wife Carol of Bolt, Conrad Johnson of Hoquaim, WA, Frankie Johnson of Des-Plains, IL, Doyle Johnson and his wife Phyllis, Virginia Stafford, Genevie Laxton, and Patricia Johnson all of Oceana. Grandchildren Rita Atha, Todd Lovins, Jennifer Bragg, Steven Lovins, Christie Cline, Cynthia Nutter, Katrina Acord, Jessica Reed, Jared Reed, Travis Surratt, Makaila Lovins, Anita Stewart, Aren Dodge, and Jayna Sayre. Great-grandchildren, Lloyd Nickolas Acord, Hannah Atha, Amber Nutter, David Nutter, Brooke Nutter, Brenton Lovins, Brooklyn Lovins, Keisha Crum, Abby Crum, Tori Crum, Austin Cline, Caitlin Cline, Cassidy Cline, Trevor Birchfield, Kylee Birchfield, Logan Surratt, Thomas Stewart, Alison Dodge and a host of other loving family and friends.

Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at Toneda Missionary Baptist Church, Kopperston, WV, with Pastor James Hamrick, and Rev. Jerry Cook officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV.

Friends may gather with the family at 5 to 9 p.m. on Monday, February 3, 2014, at the church and also 2 hours prior to the services.

Jonathan Tyler Blankenship

PIPESTEM — Jonathan Tyler Blankenship, 24, of Pipestem died suddenly from injuries sustained in an auto accident Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014.

Everal Collins

BAILEYSVILLE — Everal Collins, 65, passed away Friday, January 31, 2014, at his home.

Born August 29, 1948, in Baileysville, WV, he was the son of the late Ledford Bee Collins and Louisa Hall Collins.

Everal was a retired roofer and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Frankie Dale Collins, and two brothers, Jimbo and Walt.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Collins of Stafford, VA; his longtime companion, Susie Hash of the home; his children, Cindy Gibson of New Orleans, Tom Collins and his wife, Nadeen, of Stafford, VA, Tim Collins and his wife, Rebecca, of Stafford, VA, and Danny Ray Collins of Stafford, VA; stepchildren, Jamie Hash and Chris Hash of Glen Fork; grandchildren, Brittany, Riley Nichole, Adrianna, Jasmine, James, Jeffery, Angelique, Victor and Shawn; one great-grandchild, Ryleigh; siblings, Johnny Collins of Princeton, Jenny Stewart of Princeton and Gladys Shelton of Matheny; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at Evans Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jay Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny. Military Honors will be conducted by the Wyoming County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from noon until time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Delys Janice Ayers Dempsey, 79, of Youngstown, Ohio, formerly of Harvey, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2014.

Onalee Mary Dempsey

Onalee Mary Dempsey, 76, of Shady Spring, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 1, 2014.

Born July 25, 1937, at Tioga, WV, she is a daughter of the late Herbert and Lucinda Tyler Curry.

Onalee was a Christian; she was saved and baptized at the Ghent Church of God, where she attended when her health permitted. She loved BINGO, reading, and listening to Audio books, she was an avid  gardener, liked to travel especially flying, she enjoyed camping, fishing, metal detecting, but most of all she loved spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oran Dempsey; infant son, Harlan Ray Dempsey; a brother, Herbert “Pikey” Curry, and a sister, Helen Louise Jarvis.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Alan Jay Dempsey and wife, Angel, of Shady Spring, Cindy Kay Matney and husband, Michael, of Daniels, Patricia Gaye Dickenson and husband, Alan, of Cool Ridge, Payge Ray Dempsey of Cool Ridge, and Dennis Dempsey and wife, Tresa, of Shady Spring; seven grandchildren, Amy Dempsey Bolanos of Birmingham, Alabama, Holly Dickenson of San Francisco, CA, Mattie Matney of Daniels, Kaylee Dickenson of Cool Ridge, Hannah Dempsey of Shady Spring, Lauren Dempsey of Shady Spring, and Candice Meadows of Shady Spring; great-grandchild, Nathan Drake Balonos of Birmingham, Alabama; two sisters, Thelma Peal of Alexandria, Louisiana, and Carol Dillon of Tioga, WV; a brother, Hilbert Curry of Tioga; several nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.

Services to celebrate the life of Onalee Mary Dempsey will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Pastor Philip Farrington officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Cora Louise Gwinn

MEADOW BRIDGE — Cora Louise Gwinn, 86, of Meadow Bridge, passed away Thursday, January 31, 2014, in the Heartland of Rainelle Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness.

Born March 30, 1927, in Russellville, she was the daughter of the late William M. and Lucinda Williams Ratliff. 

Louise was a homemaker and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Meadow Bridge. 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband Samuel T. Gilkeson, II; 3 brothers Arliss Ratliff, Muncie Ratliff and Delmus Ratliff; 2 sisters Ollie Kincaid and Inice Hutsenpillar.

Survivors include her husband Bobby E. Gwinn of Meadow Bridge; her son Samuel T. Gilkeson, III, and wife Karen of Harpers Ferry; 2 daughters Kathy E. Gilkeson of Kearneysville and Kristie M. Gilkeson-Coffman of Lewisburg; 2 grandchildren Evva J. Gilkeson of Lewisburg and Samuel T. Gilkeson, IV, of Morgantown; and 2 great-grandchildren Clifton M. Gilkeson/Froelic and Avery J. Gilkeson/Froelic.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 4, in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville, with Pastor Greg Scott officiating.

Raphael Lee Hundley

Raphael (Ray) Lee Hundley, 72, of Beckley, passed away Friday, January 31, 2014, at Beckley ARH following a long illness.

Ray was born in Nicholas County, May 13, 1941; he was the son of the late Henry and Sybil Hundley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ada M. Hundley, in 2003 and a brother, Robert (Bill), in 2012.

Ray is survived by his son, David Wayne Hundley of Beckley, with whom he resided. Daughters, Susan Stewart and husband, Danny, of Burlington, NC, and Sandra Bragg and husband, Jim, of Jumping Branch; stepdaughter, Shelby Watkins of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Cody Bragg, Jordan Bragg, Amy Neal and Stephen Watkins. He is also survived by his brothers, Curtis Hundley, Richard Hundley and wife, Shirley; and a sister, Anna Hypes and husband Stanley all of Craigsville.

Ray was of the Baptist faith, and he worked with heavy equipment and drove for various companies as a bus driver for many years until he retired. Ray loved his family and his friends. He loved to gather together and play music with his brothers and sister with whom he was part of a Gospel band, the Still Blessed, in which he played the guitar, the dobra and sang. Heaven has gained another choir member. Everyone that knew him will miss his smile, easy-going attitude, charm, and sense of humor.

Services to celebrate the life of Raphael (Ray) Hundley will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at the Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Lansing, with Pastor Tom Comer officiating. Burial will follow in the Good Hope Cemetery.

Friends may gather with the family from 1 p.m. until time of the service Tuesday at the church.

Mossie Lee Krysztofik

Mossie Lee Krysztofik passed away on February 1, 2014, at the age of 93.

Born in Fitzpatrick, West Virginia, on March 8, 1920, she was the daughter of the late George and Elvira Scarborough.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Walter Krysztofik; brothers and sisters: George Scarborough (Margaret), Glover Scarborough (Lona), Clifford Scarborough (Margaret), Marie Floyd (Ted), Ronda Matheney (Russell), and Nola Forthman (Lin); half sister Elsie Eller (Miskell) and half brother Carlton Scarborough (Erita).

She is survived by her daughter Rita Selvage (Don) of Lakeland, Florida; son Gregory Krysztofik (Judy) and two grandchildren, Casey Krysztofik and Chelsea Krysztofik, all of Columbus, Ohio; sisters-in-law Maxine Scarborough of Beckley, West Virginia, Sophia Krysztofik of Rutland, Vermont, and several nieces and nephews.

Mossie was a 1939 graduate of Shady Spring High School, Shady Spring, WV. Following graduation she received her Licensed Practical Nursing Certificate from CityHospital in Baltimore, MD. During WWII she worked as a nurse in New York and Maryland and Eastern Aircraft. She met her future husband, Wally, who was serving in the army at the time in Baltimore. They were married in Vermont in 1946 and eventually returned to Beckley, WV, where she worked at Pinecrest Sanatorium and Beckley Hospital. She was a member of St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church and belonged to the Catholic Daughters. In 1963 she moved with her family to Columbus, Ohio, where she remained for the next 51 years. Mossie is a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She worked at St. Anthony’s Hospital, in private practice, and at Grant Hospital where she retired in 1984. After retirement she remained active in the community, volunteering at Arbor East Nursing Home and Holy Spirit. A sports lover, she was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan and remained active playing golf and bowling into her 80s.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, from 10 to 11 a.m. with services immediately following at Egan Ryan East Chapel, 4019 E. Livingston Ave., Columbus, OH 43227. A graveside service will be conducted at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity, WV, at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2014.



John Riley Reggi

John Riley Reggi, age 90, went to be with the Lord on January 30, 2014.

Born on June 14, 1923, to the late John and Ella Reggi; Riley was a prominent member of Stanaford, WV. He proudly joined the 4th Marine Division serving his country in World War II. After the war, Riley returned to Stanaford #2 mine. He then worked at the Greenbrier Dairy until retirement. A man of great faith and strong testimony, Riley was known by friends and family as a true and faithful man of God. He served as a Sunday school teacher and Deacon  for many years at Stanaford Road Baptist Church and also at Piney View Bible Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by son Randy Reggi, five sisters and one half brother.

He is survived by his wife, June Elizabeth (Reed) Reggi, and his children, John Dougal and Ramona Reggi, Dwight and Jackie Reggi, Linda (Reggi) Scott, Brenda Reggi, Tony and Jennifer Reggi, Rob  and Jennifer (Reggi) Hogan, and Brian and Emilee (Reggi) Helton; 18 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and his brother, Johnny and Hilda Reggi of Sebring, OH.

A celebration of Riley’s life will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at the Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel in Prosperity. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity.

Grandsons will have the honor of serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home.

Randall A. Reggi

RALEIGH, N.C. — Randall A. Reggi, 59, of Raleigh, NC, formerly of Stanaford, went home to be with the Lord on February 2, 2014.

Randy was a 1972 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. After high school he served four years in the United States Air Force in Osan, Korea. Following his time in the Air Force, he obtained an Associate in Arts Degree from Parkersburg Community College and shortly after a Bachelor’s of Art Degree from North Carolina State University in 1988. Randy completed a Master of Architecture degree at NC State University in 1996. He worked for over 20 years as a facility planner at NC State creating  accessible entrance points and accommodations for people with physical handicaps at NC State allowing them to achieve their educational goals. He was active in outdoor activities such as bike races with paralyzed veterans bike racing team.

He is preceded in death by his father, John Riley Reggi; paternal grandparents John and Ella Reggi; maternal grandparents, Berdine and Melda Reed Martin.

Survivors include his seven brothers and sisters, John Dougal and Ramona Reggi, Dwight and Jacki Reggi, Linda Reggi Scott, Brenda Reggi, Tony and Jennifer Reggi, Rob and Jennifer Reggi Hogan, and Brian and Emilee Reggi Helton; 18 nieces and nephews; 14 great-nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Randy’s life will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at the Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Cecil Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity.
