Mary Lee Coffey

EDMOND — Mary Lee Coffey, 97, of Edmond passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014.

Frances Jean Taylor Dempsey

FAYETTEVILLE — Frances Jean Taylor Dempsey, 90, of Fayetteville, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2014, at Plateau Medical Center.

Born on October 7, 1923, at Fayetteville, she was the daughter of the late J. Alfred Sr. and Sabina Ellen Taylor.

Mrs. Dempsey was a member of Fayetteville Presbyterian Church since 1959, was a member of circle #2, the adult Sunday School Class, and a longtime Sunday School Treasurer. She was a retired clerk in the Auditor’s Office at the State Capitol, member of the Red Hat Society, member of the Genealogy Society of Fayette and Raleigh Counties and a member of the Fayette County Humane Society.

She was an amazing artist producing numerous beautiful paintings over the past 25 years. She composed poetry and delighted family and friends with poems she placed in cards or gifts. She also enjoyed playing the piano, organ, and accordion.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas Nelson Dempsey Sr.; son, Dallas Nelson Dempsey Jr.; brothers, J. Alfred Jr., Karl, Paul, Chilton, infant brother, Clark Lee; infant twin sisters; sisters, Della Bennett, Louise Thompson; and grandson, Stephen Myers. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Linda Myers and her husband Rodney of Fayetteville; daughter-in-law, Carolynn Dempsey; granddaughter, Karen and her husband Mason Basham of Canvas, Angela Dempsey of Charleston, S.C., Alicia and her husband Chris Morabito of Daniels; great-grandchildren, Kristen Basham, Megan Krise, Blayne Dempsey, and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 2, 2014, at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville. Burial will follow at Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.    

A special thank you to Fayette Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Dr. Scott Keffer, head nurse Denise Farris and other caregivers for their excellent care over the past five and a half years, Plateau Medical Center and especially to nurse Debbie Green for her care and compassion.

KOPPERSTON — Hazel Mae Elswick, 83, of Kopperston, passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, at the Bible Baptist Church, Kopperston, with the Rev. Earl Brewer and Pastor Merv White officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny. Friends may gather with the family at noon Monday, Feb. 3, until time of service at the church.

MEADOW BRIDGE — Cora Louise Gilkeson Gwinn, 86, of Meadow Bridge, passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville. There will be no visitation.

MARLINTON — Diana Lee Hafler, 59, of Marlinton, formerly of Lake Worth, Fla., passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, at Lantz Funeral Home in Buckeye with Pastor Sam Felton officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to services.

Eva Christine Lusk Osborne

CYCLONE — Eva Christine Lusk Osborne, 78, of Cyclone, entered into eternal rest surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at Charleston Area Medical Center-General, Charleston, W.Va.

She was born May 12, 1935, a daughter of the late Edward and Ella Lusk.

Christine was a lifelong resident of Wyoming County. She was a member of Bright Prospect Missionary Baptist Church and a member of lady’s circle.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years Sester Osborne; three brothers; four sisters; a daughter-in-law; a son-in-law; a granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.

Survivors include four sons Edward Ross (Stella) Osborne, Ronald David (Coretta) Osborne, Harvey (Vickie) Osborne, all of Cyclone, and Randall (Deloris) Osborne of Beaver; three daughters Ethel (Tommy) Watts, Delma (Gary) Paynter, Tanecia Osborne and companion Michael Adkins all of Cyclone; two sisters Gladis Bailey of Beckley, Lois Powell of Cyclone; 22 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, February 2, 2014, at the Bright Prospect Missionary Baptist Church, Cyclone, with Rev. Ralph Harvey, Rev. Henry Harvey, and Bro. Don Harvey officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Brown’s Cemetery, Cyclone.

Friends may gather with the family after 6 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at the church.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

LEWISBURG — Judith Anne O’Connor Westerik, 69, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014.

At her wishes, she will be cremated and her ashes returned to her family for later dispersal. A commemorative service focused on her life will be at a later date.
