Nada Mae Sweeney O’Dell
On Saturday, January 18, 2014, Nada Mae Sweeney O’Dell of Sweeneysburg entered into eternal rest at Bowers Hospice house. She was loved and cherished by all who knew her.
She was born on March 6, 1932, to loving parents, Phillip H. and Mildred Stover Sweeney Sr., of Sweeneysburg. They were godly parents that led her to accept Jesus Christ as her personal savior at the age of 8.
She met the love of her life while she was working at P.H. Sweeney Store, her father’s country store. Nada married Ronald O’Dell on August 26, 1950. They were blessed with two children, Nancy and Ronnie. Nada and Ron began their life together in Beckley, WV; however, they moved with Ronald’s work all over southern WV before moving to Welch, WV, where they spent many happy years together. During her time in Welch, Nada was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Princeton Chapter 53 Eastern Star. She attended Beckley College.
After her father’s death and husband’s retirement, Nada moved back to her childhood home in Sweeneysburg. Nada loved her family and always enjoyed time spent with them. She was very close to the Sweeney, O’Dell, Hager, and Smith families. She looked forward to time that she could spend sharing food and laughter with them. Nada had a very special way to make every person she knew feel loved and her family has many wonderful memories of that love. She continued her dedication to serve the Lord and became a member of the United Methodist Temple in Beckley.
Besides her husband, Ronald, she is left behind by her brother, Phillip Sweeney, her daughter Nancy and husband Michael Thomson of Sweeneysburg and her son Ronald O’Dell II, of Lanark, WV. Grandchildren whom she helped to raise and was a very active part of their life, Alison and husband John Suptic, Jennifer Thomson, all of Sweeneysburg, and Phillip O’Dell of Lanark, WV. She also leaves behind many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Please join her family in the celebration of her life at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Rev. Randy Adkins officiating.
Friends may gather with the family Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
