Nina Louise Ball
TALCOTT — Nina Louise Ball, 90, of Talcott, passed away Sunday, March 14, 2010 at Summers Nursing and Rehab following a long illness.
Born March 7, 1920, at Sandstone, she was a daughter of the late Homer L. and Emsy May Cooper Johnson. A lifelong resident of Summers County, Mrs. Ball was a homemaker, faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church at Talcott and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred E. Ball Jr.; one daughter, Janie Louise Ball; one grandson, Warren Lewis Ball; two sisters, Marjorie Switzer and Ruby Snyder; and one brother, Homer Eugene Johnson.
Survived by two sons, Alfred E. “Buddy” Ball III and wife Wanda of Talcott and William L. “Bill” Ball and wife Katherine of Talcott; three granddaughters, Melanie Adkins and husband Bryan of McCoy, Va., Mica Ball of Harrisonburg, Va., and Allison Ball of McCoy, Va.; one stepgrandson, Jason Marshall of Amsterdam, N.Y., and one stepgreat-grandson, Maxx Marshall of Cleveland, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at Trinity United Methodist Church at Talcott with Pastors Bob Talbott and Sam Haught officiating. Burial will follow in the Talcott Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors and from noon until service time on Wednesday at the Church.
Friends of the family will serve as pallbearers.

Betty June Justice Coleman
SCARBRO — Betty June Justice Coleman, 85, of Scarbro, died on Sunday, March 14, 2010, at Hilltop Center in Hilltop.
Born February 23, 1925, at Ironton, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late John W. Justice and Parma Ann McClung Justice.
Mrs. Coleman was a member of the Mountain View Church of God and was a homemaker.
Her husband, William Shrader Coleman, and a brother, Bennie Justice, preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Daniel Myers of Columbus, Ohio, and Harold Myers of Columbus; two daughters, Gloria Poff of Scarbro and Joyce Ann Showalter of Davis, W.Va.; one brother, Elmer Lee Justice of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one sister, Febey Jennings of Tulsa, Okla.; ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. today, Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. Rudell Bloomfield officiating. Entombment will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Prosperity.

Nicholas Cox
Nicholas Cox, 71, of Crab Orchard, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2010.
Born October 30, 1938, in Crossville, Tenn., he was the son of the late Raymond Cox and Daspeni Subotich Cox.
Nicholas was employed by Appalachian Inn, retired from Birchfield Mining, and Bluestone Industries. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and gardening. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by grandmother Alta Subotich; former wife Agnes Webb Cox; daughter, Judy; granddaughters, Lori and Sarah.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Barbara; daughters, Tammy Flynn, Patty Appis, Becky Lowman; sons, Terry Cox and Michael Cox; stepchildren, Belinda Hutcherson, Lori Slone, Dusty Ellison; sisters, Sharon Cox, Ida Stults, Mary Bullard, Susie Meadows; brother, Bucky Cox, all of Tennessee; 26 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2010, at Williams Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Sophia, with Rev. Larry Cochran officiating.

Bobby Gene Dillon
In the early hours of Sunday morning, March 14th, 2010, our most loved Bobby Gene Dillon of 185 Dillon Creek Road, Lower Sandlick community, died at the Charleston Area Medical Center following a short illness. He was 75 years of age.
The fifth of six children, Bobby was born on February 15, 1935, at Lower Sandlick to the late Dewey William and Maude Wiseman Dillon. His sister, Ruby Dillon, and a brother, Paul Dillon, and an infant brother preceded him in death.
Bobby spent his childhood at the Lower Sandlick community where he has been a lifelong resident. He was a graduate of Trap Hill High School, Class of 1952. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1955 where he served his country for four years. Bobby worked in timber for a number of years. He began a career in the mining industry and was a proud member of the UMWA District 17, belonging to the local union at Sundial. Retiring from Toney’s Branch Coal Company, he had 23 and 1/2 years in union mines upon his retirement. Bobby loved to work on his farm and kept cattle and horses. A lifelong member of the Mattsville Community Church, he enjoyed singing and was a member of the Mattsville Quartet for many years. It was in church where Bobby met a pretty girl, Ramona Kathleen Stover. Bobby and Ramona have celebrated 53 years of marriage. “Love is Eternal.”
In addition to his beloved wife, Bobby is the precious Dad of Garland Gene Dillon and his wife, Diane, who live on the family farm; he was the doting “Papa” of one granddaughter, Nicole Dillon of Manhattan, N.Y.; the fond brother of Betty Daniels and her husband, James, of Lower Sandlick and Roger Dillon and his wife Debbie of Glen Daniel; a special family friend, Euely Webb, who has made his home with the Dillons for over 20 years; a dear sister-in-law, Wanda Bolon; several nieces, nephews, neighbors, and his church family.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 17th, at the Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Revs. David Cook and Gary Hosey officiating. Burial will follow in the Veterans Garden at the Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. today, Tuesday, at the mortuary and one hour prior to the services on Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be: Roy Miller, Jerry Lucas, Bob Shelton, Euely Webb, Paul Bolon and Johnny Daniels.

Gary Wayne Dorsey
Gary Wayne Dorsey, 58, of Daniels, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 11, 2010, in a Beckley hospital following a sudden illness.
Born March 21, 1951, in Beckley, W.Va., he was the cherished son of Fred and Etheline Pate Dorsey of Daniels, W.Va.
Gary was a doting father to his two children, a loving son to his parents and a cherished sibling to his sister. He was an avid outdoorsman, loving to hunt, fish, garden and work in wood crafting. He was a member of the young Thundering Herd Marshall University Football Team in 1970, he was inducted in the Woodrow Wilson High School’s Football Hall of Fame in 1991, attended the Crow Missionary Baptist Church, and had worked as a heavy equipment operator.
Gary is now with his two loving brothers, Freddy Lee and Mark Stephen Dorsey, who preceded him in death.
Also preceding him were his maternal grandparents, John and Ethel Pate, and paternal grandparents, Ralph and Ada Belle Dorsey.
Those left to cherish his memory other than his parents, Fred and Etheline Dorsey, are his son, Chris Fotos and his wife, Susan Fotos, of Bentleyville, Pa.; a daughter, Chelsea Ann Dorsey of Beckley; a sister, Melodie Lynn Spencer and her husband Timothy of Grandview, and their son Scott Harris of Grandview, and a daughter, Jessica Severino and her husband Joey, and the twins, Marca and Myra of Beckley.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. today, Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Chapel in Beckley with Pastor Dennis Burks officiating. Entombment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum in Beckley, W.Va.

Mr. Doss was born March 12, 1956, at Maryland, and was the son of Mary Perdue and the late Donn W. Doss.
He was owner and operator of F.C. and Sons Excavating and a member of the Lewisburg Seventh Day Adventist.
Survivors include his wife, Connie Hoke Doss; her mother, Mary Perdue of Ashland, Va.; sons, Justin Doss and his wife, Ashley, Daniel Doss and Luke Doss, all of Grassy Meadows; two sisters, Annette (Otis) Mills of Winston Salem, N.C., and Sandra Doss of Westminster, Md.; three brothers, J.W. Robert Earl Godbey Sr.
BONHAM, Texas — Robert Earl Godbey Sr., 86, of Bonham, formerly of Mabscott, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2010, in Bonham.
Born April 15, 1923, he was the son of the late Wayman Ike and Irene Shrewsbury Godbey. Robert was a retired U.S. Postal worker and a U.S. Marine veteran of WWII. Semper Fi, Grandpa! He loved Mabscott and was a resident most of his life.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ann Godbey, in February 1998, and brothers: Winston, Ray and Everett Godbey.
Robert was a devoted father and grandfather who will forever be in our hearts.
Survivors include his son, Robert Earl Godbey Jr. and wife Sherry of North Richland Hills, Texas; grandson, Robert E. Godbey III of Ft. Worth, Texas; granddaughter, Courtney Ann Godbey of North Richland Hills, Texas; brother, Jacke Godbey of Florida; and sisters, Edna and Maxine of Ohio.

Carrie Beverly Franklin Jenkins
HILLTOP — Carrie Beverly Franklin Jenkins, 99, entered into eternal life on Sunday, March 14, 2010, at Fayette Nursing and Rehab Center in Fayetteville.
Born on April 13, 1910, in Gladstone, Va., and was the daughter of the late Taylor and Lillian Beverly.
She joined the Galilee Baptist Church at an early age. After relocating to Oak Hill, in 1992, she joined the First Baptist Church of Greentown, then later joined the Church of God of Prophecy in Oak Hill, where she remained a faithful member until her health failed. She then moved in with her youngest son, Felix, and his wife for 4 years. After which she made Fayette Nursing Home her home.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, McKinley Jenkins, and two brothers, Richard and Alonzo Beverly.
She leaves not to mourn, but to celebrate and cherish her life: three sons, Richard Jenkins (friend Sally Cotton) of Connecout, Ohio, Clarence Franklin (Clementine) of Amherst, Va., and Felix Jenkins (Christine) of Oak Hill; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; two foster children, Pricilla Dorsey (Rev. Craig Dorsey), and their two children of Beckley, and John Brown of Oak Hill.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Fayette Nursing Home for their dedication in caring for our mother.

RUPERT — Leonard G. Whitlock, 82, of Autumn Way Personal Care Home, passed away late Friday, March 12, 2010, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center of Ronceverte, following a short illness.
Born Nov. 22, 1927, at Carl, W.Va., he was the son of the late Perry W. and Orpha M. Haynes Whitlock.
Leonard was a U.S. Army veteran, and of the Baptist faith. He loved to hunt and fish, and was retired from the Federal Government as a welder from the Long Beach Naval Shipyard.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Whitlock, Maude Moss and Lura Grose; and three brothers, Lloyd, Alvin “Speedy,” and Brooks Lee Whitlock; a niece, Sarah Whitlock; and a nephew, Phil Grose.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews, and two sisters-in-law, Elma Whitlock of Leivasy and Koren Whitlock of California.
Services will be 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at the Wallace Memorial Mausoleum Chapel at Clintonville, with Pastor Troy George officiating. Burial will follow at Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.
