Freia E. Davis
Freia E. Davis, 78, of Daniels (formerly of West View), passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at the Bowers Hospice House following a long illness.
Born on January 24, 1932, in Mainz, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Wilhelm and Anna Zimmerman.
Some fifty-plus years ago, she met a hillbilly from West Virginia by the name of Harry Davis, who was stationed in Germany with the military. They would eventually marry and he was forever grateful for the sacrifices she made (leaving her native land and a wonderful caring family) and gambling on him. Her decision was validated by fifty years of blissful marriage.
He knew things would work out for he informed her she would make all the minor decisions and he would make the major ones. Fifty-some years later there was no major decision made.
The most enjoyable years of her marriage were the thirty-plus years spent on a farm in West View. Here she enjoyed caring for her pets, and preparing wonderful meals for family and friends on special occasions.
They were as “Green” as could be in regard to farm life, and many humorous stories surfaced as a result. She called him at work one day and said she had seen the ugliest little dog she had ever seen. A short time later a neighbor came and asked if she had seen any lost piglets. He would always tell this on her until the day he cut a limb from a tree that he was standing on.
They were fortunate to live in a neighborhood with wonderful supporting friends. Winifred and Modly Shrewsbury, Frank and Ellen Mills, Roger and Shirley Ingole, and Jack and Vivian Farley. She thought the world of Mrs. Farley. There are just too many wonderful friends to mention.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband Harry Davis, her family in Germany, sister Silka, brothers, Eric and Olaf, stepmother Henriette, whom she loved dearly; brother Karl and family in Canada, sister-in-law June Coffey of Charleston and brother-in-law James Davis of Beckley.
If it is true that love conquers all, then their “rendezvous with destiny” has no perils.
There will be no visitation or funeral. At her request, she will be cremated.
“She Lived, and brought unto this earth a bit of joy, happiness and love.
And Now, will live forever in our hearts.”
I’m so proud that she was my wife.
Special thank you to Lou Kintsler of Beckley, for caring and standing by her. It reflected a lot of class.
Online condolences may be sent to our guestbook at www.roseandquesenberry.net.
Arrangements by Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, 729 Flat Top Road, Shady Spring, WV 25918.
