James R. Boblett

James Roy Boblett, 82, of Piney View, W.Va., went to be with the Lord, Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, following a short illness.

Born August 1, 1927, he was the son of the late Lola and Henry Boblett.

He was a retired coal miner of Pittston Coal Company, enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid hunter, and beekeeper. He was a wonderful provider and devoted husband, father, and brother; and a member of Cross Point Church of God in Beckley.

Mr. Boblett was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Vivian Arbutus; four brothers: Tom, Kenneth, Bobby, and Ronce; one sister, Ruby.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Georgia Darby Boblett of Piney View, his sons David Patrick and wife Jill of Lanark, James Wyman and wife Nella of Beckley, and Michael Douglas and wife Judy of St. Albans, five grandchildren: Tina, Scott, Matthew, Wesley, and Heather, and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with his son Rev. Michael D. Boblett and Rev. Vondie Cook officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Prosperity. Friends may gather with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at the Funeral Home. Grandsons and family will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers the family request that, in his honor, donations be made to the Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV 25801.

Mr. Clarence Carey, 94, of 427 S. Fayette St., Beckley, died Sunday, March 7, 2010.

Homer A. Eggleston Sr.

FORT MITCHELL, Ky. — Homer A. Eggleston, Sr., age 87, of Fort Mitchell, Ky., formerly of Alderson, W.Va., died Thursday, March 4, 2010, at the Hospice Care Center of Northern Kentucky, Fort Thomas, Ky., following a short illness.

Born February 16, 1923, in Summers County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Grover Eggleston, Sr., and the late Ida J. Bryant Eggleston. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Eggleston; and three brothers, Carlos Eggleston, Clarence Eggleston, and Roscoe Eggleston.

Mr. Eggleston was a retired truck driver, having retired from Branch Motor Express, Cincinnati, Ohio. He worked as a bus driver in Washington, D.C., for several years and then was a union truck driver from the mid-’50s until his retirement. Mr. Eggleston was a World War II Veteran, having served in the United States Marine Corps. Prior to his military service, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. Mr. Eggleston was of the Christian faith. He had a great love for all of his family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Audrey Lochinger Eggleston of Fort Mitchell, Ky.; four children, Maxine Newman of Fort Mitchell, Ky., Jeanette Scott of Beckley, Homer “Al” Eggleston, Jr., of Fort Mitchell, Ky., and Johnny Eggleston of Union, Ky.; two brothers, Charles Eggleston of Alderson, and Grover Eggleston, Jr., of Alderson; three sisters, Josephine McClung of White Sulphur Springs, Madeline Cutlip of Alderson, and Maxine Sims of Ronceverte; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Lobban Funeral Home Chapel, Alderson, W.Va., with the Rev. Frank Jones officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Alderson, with military funeral honors conducted by the West Virginia Army National Guard. Friends may call Monday, March 8, 2010, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Lobban Funeral Home, Alderson.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Madge J. Galford

DUNMORE — Madge J. Galford, 93, of Dunmore, passed away Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at Pocahontas Center in Marlinton.

Services will be 11 a.m. today, March 8, at New Hope Church of the Brethren with the Rev. David Rittenhouse officiating. Burial will follow at the Arbovale Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to service.

John W. Haydon

John W. Haydon, 67, of West Virginia St., Beckley, formerly of Prosperity, passed away Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness.

Born January 7, 1943, in Staunton, Va., he was the son of the late Charles Ambrose and Virginia Bayne Haydon Caldwell of Beckley and his stepfather the late Jessie J. Caldwell.

John was employed by Industrial Brake and also a Coal Miner for Beckley Coal for many years. John was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and Senior Friends at Raleigh General Hospital. John was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

Mr. Haydon was preceded in death by his brother, James “Jimmy” Ambrose Haydon, and his sister Lana Marie Caldwell Knuckles Kirby; his paternal grandparents, Charles Ambrose and Minnie Shomo Haydon; his maternal grandparents, John Elgin and Virginia Milshire Brady Bayne.

Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Virginia Caldwell, his companion in life and in love for over thirteen years, Betty Jo Amick, and her children, Theresa Plemmons, Matthew Amick and Lisa Chatfield; grandchildren, Kelly Jo Radford, Malorrie Chatfield, Dale Garland, Katie and Roy Amick; great-grandchildren Jessica and Kelsey Terry, Zeke and Chasity Chatfield; five brothers: Charles L. Haydon of Atlanta, Mich., Thomas E. Haydon of Beckley, George R. Hayden and wife Linda Waycaster Hayden of Flint, Mich., Kenneth H. Haydon and wife Brenda Harden Haydon of Nitro and Lacy L. and wife Mary Arlena Pilkington Haydon of Beckley; two sisters, Catherine Ann and husband Floyd E. Hall of Branford, Conn., and Dorothy Sharon and husband Kenneth R. Shaw of Sissonville; his aunts, Elizabeth Mills of White Oak, Lelia Ball of Mabscott, Mary McGrady of Sprague, Mabel Rouss of Staunton, Va.; his uncle, Vincent “Benny” Bayne of Stuarts Draft, Va.; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with the Pastor Robert Meadows officiating. Friends may gather with the family one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

AKRON, Ohio — Marie LaRue, 83, of Akron, Ohio, formerly of Frankford, died Thursday, March 4, 2010.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, at Morgan Funeral Home in Lewisburg. Burial will follow in the Lewis Chapel Cemetery at Frankford. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, March 8, at the funeral home.

CLEARFORK — Charles McClanahan, 77, departed this life Saturday, March 6, 2010, following a short illness.
