Daniel “Dan” Bickey, age 68, of Beckley, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland Ohio.

PENCE SPRINGS — Sandra Gail Stewart Brunty, age 62, of Pence Springs, formerly of Boulder Hill, Ill., passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2014.

Funeral services will be Thursday, July 3, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Pence Springs Community Church, Pence Springs, with the Rev. Roger Persinger officiating. Burial will follow at the Stewart and Gunter Cross Over Trails Cemetery, Pence Springs.

Claud Owen        Caldwell

Claud Owen Caldwell, 76, of Odd, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, June 29, 2014, following a short illness.

Born March 20, 1938, in Raleigh County he was the son of the late Lonnie and Anna Walker Caldwell.

Claud was a retired coal miner, and a longtime member of the UMWA. He enjoyed fishing, being outdoors, and spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his three brothers: Raymond, Roger, and Donnie “Don” Caldwell.

Those left to cherish his memory include his four children Claude Earl Caldwell, Barbara “Susie” Smith and husband Tom, Jerry Caldwell and his wife Dena, and Zach Caldwell; one  granddaughter Christina; two brothers: David and Janice Caldwell, Terry “Buck” Caldwell, and companion Sheila Harvey; three sisters: Sue Phillips, Jane and Leroy Shrewsberry, and Lee and Ronnie Griffith, and a host of nieces, nephews, and many dear friends he loved as family.

Services will be held Thursday, July 3, 2014, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charlie Bolen officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

SUMMERSVILLE — Elden Clarence “E.C.” Fairchild, 93, of Summersville, died Monday, June 30, 2014.

The mass of Christian burial will be conducted Thursday, July 3, 2014, at 10 a.m. in the St. Johns Catholic Church at Summersville, with Father Xavier Cooney, SVD officiating. Burial will follow in the Walker Memorial Park at Summersville.

Theresa Lynn   Fleming

ANSTED — Theresa Lynn Fleming, 50, of Ansted, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley.

Born on January 14, 1964, in Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of the Russell Ray and Frances Mae Leech Tucker.

Mrs. Fleming was of the Pentecostal faith. She was a former certified nursing assistant for various nursing homes and hospitals.

Left to cherish her memory are her parents, Russell and Frances Tucker; husband, McKinley Fleming Jr; four children, Nina Cox, Adam Derringer, McKinley Fleming III, and Stacey Milks; one brother, Russell Tucker Jr.; three sisters: Tammy Campbell, Linda Williams, and Terena Malpass; and nine grandchildren.

Gordon LeRoy Hull

ROCKY MOUNT, Va. — Gordon LeRoy Hull, 77 of Rocky Mount, formerly of Neola, W.Va., passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014.

His funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014 in the chapel of Shanklin Funeral Home with Rev. Lowell O’Dell officiating. Burial will follow in the May Chapel United Methodist Cemetery, Neola.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Orvil A. Killen Jr.

CRAIGSVILLE — Orvil A. Killen Jr., 77, of Craigsville, died Tuesday, July 1, 2014, in the VA Medical Center at Clarksburg.

Born April 22, 1937, at Tazewell, Va., he was a son of the late Orvil A., Sr. and Lessie Mae Alley Killen.

He was also preceded in death by two sons, Cary Allen and Carl Killen and by a daughter, Sue Ann Killen.

He was a former owner operator of Killen’s Diesel Service at Mt. Nebo and was an Air Force veteran.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Carmella Claypool Killen; one son, Michael and his wife, Janet Killen of Craigsville; one grandson, Benjamin of Camden-on-Gauley.

In keeping with his wishes the body will be cremated. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Jack M. Koontz

TALCOTT — Jack Matthew Koontz, age 78, of Talcott,  passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Summers County Appalachian Regional Hospital following a sudden illness.

Born June 21, 1936, at Union, W.Va., he was the son of the late Aubrey and Ethel Marie McCleland Koontz.

Mr. Koontz was drafted in 1960 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was self employed in the timber business and he was of the Baptist Faith.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Thomas William Koontz; two brothers, Jessie Koontz and William Billie Koontz; two sisters, Mary Koontz and Constance Koontz Graften.

Survivors include two sons, Steven Matthew Koontz and wife Pamela of Greenville, W.Va. and Jackie Lee Koontz and Amanda Church of Ballard; four daughters, Judy Crouse of Alderson, Patricia Ann Waddell and husband Jeffery of Ballard, Barbra Jean Hoke of Alderson, and Vickey Boyles and husband Thomas of Page, Ariz.; two sisters, Virgie Lee Hammond and husband Johnnie of Ballard, and Josephine Parker of Marion County, Md.; 13 grandchildren, Aaron Koontz and wife Ashley of Alderson, Nathen Gill and wife Courtney of Greenville, Natasha Burke and husband Jermaine of Ballard, Matthew Koontz of Ballard, Adam and Mikayla Crouse of Alderson, Brooklyn Koontz of Alderson, Madison Weikle of Alderson, Declan Conner, Paris Jeaneine, and Aedan Ciaran Boyles all of Arizona, Bo James Solomon Koontz of Florida, Mandie Williams of Ballard, and Destiny West of Ballard; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014, at the Groves Funeral Home Chapel in Union, with Rev. Jeff Perdue officiating. Burial will follow in Alderson Cemetery, Alderson, where the WV Honor Guard will conduct military graveside rites. George Edward Lego

George Edward Lego, 65, formerly of Oak Hill, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014, at his home in Calabash, N.C., after a long battle with cancer.

George was born in Lochgelly, W.Va., on September 10, 1948, to the late Russell E. Lego Sr. and Stella Vaughn Lego.

George proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps with a tour of duty in Vietnam and retired from CSX as a signal technician. He was a loving husband and kind, patient father.

In addition to his parents George is preceded in death by sisters Mary Berry, Florence Wyrick, and brothers, Russell Earl Lego Jr. and William Lego.

George married the love of his life, Laura Jane Brewer and together they spent the next 37 years fishing, camping, taking trips, boating and rearing children Mike Lyttle of Watts, Okla., Michele Smoot of Owasso, Okla., and Melissa Dorman of Owasso, Okla.

Others left to cherish his memory include sisters, Betty Berry of Bumpass, Va., Thelma Davenport of Toledo, Ohio, brother Larry Douglas Lego of Danese, W.Va.,  parents-in-law, Cleve and Betty Brewer of Prosperity; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and faithful loving poodle, WeeWee.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 3rd, at Calvary Baptist Church, 1424 East Main St., Oak Hill, with Pastor Gary Lilly and Pastor Mike Gunnoe officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Ora Mae Lemons

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Ora Mae Lemons, 100, of Fredericksburg, formerly of Wayside, W.Va., passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 29, 2014.

She lived a long and interesting life and was recently able to celebrate her 100th birthday with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Cecil Lemons, her parents, Wilbur B. and Elsie Mae Richardson Flint, and her eight siblings.

Ora Mae is survived by her loving daughter, Aloha English and her son-in-law, Errell Spangler, her granddaughters, Deborah Jarrett, Rochelle Spangler, and Julie Marshall and husband, Jim. She has four great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

 Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Thursday, July 3, 2014, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Hughllyn Wilson and Pastor Steve Howdock officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery at Ballengee, W.Va.

Mary Magdalene Roles Mabe

Mary Magdalene (Roles) Mabe, 93, of Odd, went to her new home on Saturday, June 28, 2014.

Born on February 8, 1921, in Odd, to J.W. and Roxie Meadows Roles, she was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister, a brother, Woodrow, her sister, Rachel Knox, her brothers, Clifton (Tip), Fred and Roy (Duck).

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, John S. Mabe, her daughter, Mary Ann Cruise and her husband, John, grandson, Johnathan, her granddaughter, Christina Bradley and her husband, Stewart, great grandchildren, Alayna and Ashby, grandson, Jeremy Vannatter and his companion, Meagan, great grandchildren, Emily and Evan as well as her brothers, Gene and Earl.

Lovingly nicknamed Maggie and Nanny to family and friends, she was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing and quilting. She was an avid gardener, taking pride in her vegetable and flower gardens. She was an amazing cook. Lucky ones will remember her homemade fried apple pies.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Fairview Freewill Baptist Church at Flat Top, on Saturday, July 5, 2014, at 2 p.m., with Pastor Charlie Tilley officiating. The family will receive friends and family on Saturday from 1 p.m. to service time at the church.

Anna Izella Pinson Perdue

FAYETTEVILLE — Anna Izella Pinson Perdue, age 78, of Fayetteville, passed away on Monday, June 30, 2014, at the Bowers Hospice House in Cranberry following an extended illness.

She was born on the 20th day of January in 1936 in Carbondale, W.Va., to the late John E. Pinson and Charlotte Dent Pinson.

Anna was a homemaker; a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren and tending to her flower gardens.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James W. “Jack” Perdue; son, Jeffrey Alan Perdue; brother, John R. Pinson; and grandsons, Wallace Craft III and Jonathan James.

Those left to carry on her legacy include her daughter, Diana Craft and husband Sheldon of Gatewood; sons, Michael Perdue and wife Becky of Oak Hill, James ‘Jamie’ Perdue Jr. and wife Betsy of Lookout, Jackie Perdue and wife Amy of Fayetteville; daughter-in-law, Rose Evans Perdue Jones of Franklinton, N.C.; sisters, Kathryn Jo Williams of Oak Hill and Betty Lane Maynor of Beckley; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services to celebrate the life of Anna Perdue will be conducted at 2 p.m.  Thursday, July 3, 2014, at the Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel in Prosperity, with Rev. Pete Lokant and Pastor Samuel Simuzoshya officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens also in Prosperity.

Lewis Jennings   Rider

Lewis Jennings Rider, age 68 of Shady Spring, passed away at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, on Sunday, June 29, 2014.

Born on February 1, 1946, at Thurmond, W.Va., he was the son of the late Julius Rider and Zelda Ward Rider.

Mr. Rider was a retired carpenter, a US Army Veteran, and was a member of the White Oak Missionary Baptist Church.

He enjoyed being on the river, camping, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.

Mr. Rider was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Rider.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife of nearly 49 years, Brenda Adkins Rider; a son, Lewis J. Rider Jr. and his wife Cathy of Plainfield, Conn.; a sister, Norma Meadows of Charleston; two brothers, Tom Rider of Talcott, and David Rider and his wife Linda, of Talcott. Five grandchildren, Russell Rider and his wife Amanda of Chesapeake, Va., Ashley Rider of Alexandria, Va., Julia Rider, of Plainfield, Conn., Kristen Rider of Plainfield, Conn., and Jeremy Rider of Plainfield, Conn.; and a great grandchild, Emma Rider.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Delmas Cox officiating.  Burial will follow at the Washington Plumley Cemetery at Plumley Mountain W.Va. Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Rachel Jane Seigler

 Rachel Jane Seigler, age 66 of Beckley, passed away on Monday, June 30, 2014, at her home following a sudden illness.

Born on the 12th day of November in 1947 in Meade, W.Va., to the late Glen Shirley Seigler and Ruby Victoria Boyd Seigler.

Rachel was a homemaker and had attended the North Beckley Church of Christ. She was also very interested in her own family’s genealogy and enjoyed playing computer games.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert ‘Bobby’ Seigler; sister, Betty Jean Spence; and a grandson, Carson Daniel Cadle.

Those left behind to carry on her legacy include her sons, Michael Seigler of Charlotte, N.C., and Randy Seigler and wife Mandy of Nimitz; daughters, Robin Seigler of Charleston and Pam Allen of Beckley; grandson, whom was like a son, Kenneth Tyrone Seigler and wife Evoni of Jacksonville, Fla.; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive her.

In keeping with Rachel’s final wishes she was cremated.

Memorial Services to celebrate the life of Rachel Seigler will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014, at the Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel in Prosperity.

Visitation will also be held from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home on Thursday.

Randall Wayne Shelton

BELLWOOD — Randall Wayne Shelton, 43, of Bellwood, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014, at his home following a short illness.

Born Dec. 19, 1970, he was the son of the late Leitha Faye Fox Shelton and Gary Franklin Shelton of Rupert.

Randall was the owner of Shelton Cycles in Bellwood. He was an avid motorcycle rider. Randall always had a smile for everyone.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Okey and Mary Fox, who helped raised him.

Other survivors include his companion of 17 years, Crystal Wills; his uncle Kelly Fox and wife Emogene of Herrogate, Tenn.; his uncle Leslie “Cotton” Fox and wife Janice of Crickmer; his aunt Cora Prather of Winchester, Va. and his aunt Laura Gilkerson and husband Edward of Maplewood; and a host of friends from here  to Florida.

A time for remembering Randall will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 3, at Smathers Funeral Chapel, Inc.

Ellen Naoma Cooper Tilley

Ellen Naoma Cooper Tilley, age 87. Our mother, grandmother, best friend and earthly angel passed away June 30, 2014, surrounded by her loving family after a short illness.

Ellen was a resident of Salem, Va. for the past eight years. Prior to this, she lived in Glen Daniel and Beckley. She was born December 19, 1926, to Rufus and Rosa Lucas Westmoreland. She was the last surviving member of 14 siblings.

Ellen was a retired restaurant owner. She owned and operated Ellen’s Drive Inn in Glen Daniel for 30 years. Before moving to Salem, Va. she was an active church member of Fairdale Freewill Baptist Church and Memorial Baptist Church in Beckley. In her later years she was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Salem, Va.

Ellen had many great qualities. She was known as a great cook but most of all she was recognized as a great friend and a woman of God. She never met a stranger and would help anyone in need.

Ellen was predeceased by her two husbands Jack Cooper of Glen Daniel, and Daniel Tilley of Beckley.

She leaves behind her daughter, Robin Allen Ward and husband Bill, of Roanoke, Va., her son Jack R. (Ronnie) Cooper and wife Linda of Saxon, W.Va. Grandchildren, Jack R. (Ron) Cooper II and wife Kristi of Bridgeport, W.Va., Susan Combs and husband Bucky of Saxon, Joseph A. Cooper of Beckley. Great Grandchildren, JA Cooper of Bridgeport, Rayna Horton and husband Preston of Fairdale, Katie Combs of Saxon, Court Hill of Bridgeport, Samantha Hill of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Elijah Cooper of Beckley. Great Grandsons Jaxon and Hunter Horton of Fairdale.

Left to cherish her memory, Ellen leaves behind many loved nephews and nieces, sisters-in-law, Nellie Westmoreland, Millie Westmoreland, Blondie Westmoreland and Lois Westmoreland all of the Martinsville, Va. area. And her special dog of 14 years, Angel.

She wanted her special friends of Salem, Va., Jean Arthur, Nancy Clements, Patty and Gary Richardson, and Ruby Shelor to know how much she loved and appreciated them.  The family would like to thank Ivy Combs from Bethel Baptist Church, Salem, Va., Carilion Emergency Medicine, especially Paul Haskins, MD, the Stroke Alert Team, Dr. Jon Sweet and Carilion Clinic Cardiology.

Friends may gather from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley. Funeral services will be held at Memorial Baptist Church in Beckley, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2014, with the Reverend Daniel Legg and Dr. James H. Boyd officiating. Ellen will be buried at Sunset Memorial Garden in Beckley. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Tammy Lee Trump

MCGRAWS — Tammy Lee Trump, 47, of McGraws, passed away June 29, 2014, at CAMC Memorial after a long courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born January 2, 1967, in Prince George County, Md., she was the daughter of Ernie Lee Trump and Drema June Trump of McGraws.

Prior to Tammy’s illness, she worked as a cook at Wyoming East High School where she made many wonderful friends whom she often spoke of fondly.

Tammy also enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint, reading and cooking. Tammy loved spending time with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her fiancé, David Goodwin and his daughter, Heather. Her children, Michael Griffith (Helen), Meghan Young, and Logan Wyatt; brothers, Tommy Trump (Stephanie) and Tim “TJ” Trump (Lisa); a nephew, Andrew Trump; grandchildren, Bryahnna and Christian Bailey.

She is also survived by a host of special aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the Dr’s and staff at the David Lee Cancer Center and CAMC Memorial Hospital.

A celebration of Tammy’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 3, 2014, in the Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, with Rev. Michael Dempsey officiating. Entombment will follow at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, July 2, 2014, in the Calfee Funeral Service Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, 1111 Stewart Avenue, Bethpage, NY 11714 www.lustgarten.org.

Andrew “Tom” Veal, 70, of Crab Orchard, formerly of Cape Hatteras, N.C., passed away Monday, June 30th, 2014, at Raleigh General Hospital.

There will be a memorial service at a later date.

LEWISBURG — Roy Anthony “Pluke” Winston, 59, of Lewisburg, passed away Friday, June 27, 2014.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, Lewisburg, with the Rev. Ronald Sherrod officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood Cemetery, Lewisburg.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the church on Thursday.
