Glenda Faglie Cook

On Sunday, January 26, 2014, our most loved Glenda Faglie Cook, 71, of Crab Orchard was called home by her heavenly Father.

Born at Augusta, Ga., on Dec. 28, 1942, Glenda was the daughter of the late Buford Faglie and Nora Faglie Purvis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step father John W. Purvis.

Glenda graduated from Augusta College in 1962 and later earned an Associate degree from Marshall University.

Glenda married the love of her life, Leo “Gib” Cook. To this union was born two children, Susan and Stephen. Glenda was a lifelong homemaker and devoted caregiver of her family. Glenda was an active member of Jordan Christian Fellowship in Sophia, devoting her time to praying for and supporting missions around the world. Glenda served as President of Women’s Missionary Union in the West Virginia Southern Baptist Convention, children’s missions camp director, girls in action leader and director, bible study leader and mentor.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 51 years, Leo “Gib” Cook, daughter Susan Chada and her husband David, son, Stephen Cook, sister Carolyn Turner and her husband Johnny, stepbrother Weldon Purvis III and wife Sue, four grandchildren Ashleigh and her husband Philip, Brandon, Christopher and Jonathan, two great granddaughters, four nieces and their families.

On Thursday, January 30th, at 2 p.m. we will honor Glenda with a “Service of Remembrance at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Pastor Tim Roberts will be officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday Jan 29th, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Melton Mortuary and one hour prior to the service. Glenda will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Jordan Christian Fellowship for missions and local ministry.

As we say goodbye to our beloved Glenda her granddaughter writes, “You are someone that leaves people better than you found them. I have watched you live your life taking care of others, serving them and counting them as greater than yourself. You have done so much more than teach me about Jesus’ love, you have showed it to me.”

Condolences may be sent to the family’s guestbook at www.meltonmortuary.com

Arrangements by Melton Mortuary and Cremation Center, Beckley.
