Ricky Gray

Ricky Lee Gray, 49, of Harper, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, following an accident.

Edward ‘Eddie’ Grygiel

Edward (Eddie) Grygiel, 74, Beckley, passed away suddenly Wednesday, January 8, 2014.

He was born July 19, 1939, to the late Paul Grygiel Sr. and Olga.

He is survived by his daughter Carroll Ann (Grygiel) Wright of Clinton, Tennessee; son Edward E. Grygiel of Clinton, Tennessee; grandson Zachary Tanner Wright of Clinton, Tennessee; great-grandaughter Kylee Brooke Wright of Knoxville, Tennessee; brother Paul Grygiel Jr. and wife Teresa of Daniels, West Virginia; niece Karen Hahner and husband Edward of Indian Trail, North Carolina; nephew Scott Grygiel of Beckley; great-nephews Andrew and Jeffery Hahner; great-niece Lisa Hahner all of Indian Trail, N.C.; Aunt Margaret Cruikshank of Everett, Mich. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. Eddie served in the United States Army from 1959-1962. He retired from Cole *Layer*Trumble (CLT) after 30 years of dedicated service.

The family will be having a Memorial Service Friday, January 17, 2014, at 3 p.m. at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley. Pastor Randy Adkins will be officiating the Memorial Service and the Director of Music Daniel H. Spurgeon will assist with the music.

Friends may call thirty minutes prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that a donation be made to either the American Heart Association, PO Box 15120, Chicago, IL 60693 or the American Cancer Society call 1-800-227-2345 to make a donation by phone.

Joyce Evelyn Hawley

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Joyce Evelyn Hawley of Beckley. Joyce passed away on Monday, January 13, 2014, following a long illness.

The fourth of five children, Joyce Evelyn Smith Hawley was born in Glen Rogers. Her parents were the late Edward and Ruth Ellen Guthrie Smith. Born on July 3, 1940, she was 73 years of age. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Kenneth Curt Hawley of 56 years, sisters infant Thelma June Smith and Eleanor Ann Hawley.

Joyce was a graduate of Trap Hill High School. When her family was raised, Joyce furthered her studies and earned four degrees in Special Education at Beckley College, Marshall University and Concord University. Joyce was always top of her of class and always on the Dean’s list.

A dedicated school teacher at Lester Elementary teaching Special Education, she loved her students and they loved her. Her other interests were sewing, pottery and art and crafts in the teaching field.

Left to cherish her memory are her three loving children, Cheryl Ann Lacy and her husband Jeff of Daniels, Mark Steven Hawley of Beckley and Carla Goad and her husband Jim of Flat Top. She was blessed with four grandchildren, one great grandson. Her brothers Ivan Smith his wife Vernie of Fairdale and Ernest Smith his wife Caretta of Tazewell, Va.

When we remember Joyce, our memory will be of a very independent, outspoken, loving, kind, creative and thoughtful lady. She will be truly missed by all.

On Thursday, January 16th, at 1 p.m. we will honor the life of Joyce Evelyn Hawley.” The Service of Remembrance” will be held at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Pastor Roger Pauley will be officiating. Joyce will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the service hour.
