RICHLANDS, Va. — Edward Clay Barber, age 58, of Richlands, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2014, at his home in Hidden Valley, Richlands, Virginia, surrounded by his family. He was our cherished and beloved father, husband, brother, uncle and friend.
He was born in Richwood, West Virginia, and was the son of the late J.C. and Garnet Sneed Barber.
Edward was a graduate of Richlands High School and a Bachelor of Arts from ETSU in Johnson City, Tennessee. He was a salesman in the Mining Industry where he previously worked at Joy Manufacturing, Jewell Smokeless, Ingersoll Rand, Electroquip and, most recently, American Mine Research. He was an avid golfer being a member of the Tazewell County Country Club and he was a longtime resident of the area.
He is survived by: His Wife, Peggy Barber. One Daughter: Jill Barber Blankenship and husband, Derick, of Raleigh, North Carolina. One Son, Jason Clay Barber of Richlands, Virginia. One Sister, Nancy Meadows of Nashville, Tennessee. One Brother: JC Barber and wife, Sharon, of Beckley, West Virginia. One Nephew: Thomas Meadows and wife, Dottie, of Nashville, Tennessee. Three Nieces: Julie Nagy and husband, Dan, of Raleigh, North Carolina; Jann O’Hara and husband, Chris, of Morgantown, West Virginia; Jennifer Manchau and husband, Doug, of Morgantown, West Virginia. Great-Nieces and Nephews: Kortney Brus of Wilmington, North Carolina; Sarah Meadows of Nashville, Tennessee; Sean Meadows of Nashville, Tennessee; Jenna and Justin Nagy of Raleigh, North Carolina; Julianna and Jessica Manchau of Morgantown, West Virginia. His two dogs that he loved: Jager and Boomer.

OAK HILL — Sandra “Sandy” Bias, 55, of Oak Hill, passed away Monday, February 10, 2014.
Born September 5, 1958, in Oak Hill, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Eugene and Geraldine Patricia Cameron Wheeler.
She was a homemaker, a head waitress at Mountain Laurel Restaurant for 12 years and an attendant at the Coffee Club in Oak Hill since 2004.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Alden Bias; one sister, Tammie Lynn Brown.

Sandra loved doing crossword puzzles, studying her Bible, and spending time with her family. She was a graduate from Glen Rodgers High School and a member of the Breckenridge Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Dustin Shaine Huffman; brothers, Okey Osbourne and Arthur Huffman; and sisters, Virginia Huffman and Lou Brown.

Herndon Duel Bragg, age 76, of Daniels, WV, went home to be with the Lord at his residence on Thursday, February 13, 2014, following a short illness.
Born on July 14, 1937, he was the son of the late Londie Lewis Bragg and Mary Keffer Bragg.
Mr. Bragg was a member of the UMWA, was a retired coal miner, and was a member of the Gospel Chapel in Daniels, WV.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Bragg, a sister Naona Craighead, a granddaughter, Mary Suzanne Pate, and his stepmother Delsie Bragg.
Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife Lavina Bragg, who was the love of his life; seven children, Debbie Cooper and husband Ronnie of Beaver, Nancy Torrence of Harper, Rita Taylor of Daniels, Doug Bragg and wife Lisa of Shady Spring, Mary Goode and husband Mike of Glen Daniel, Scott Bragg and wife Alisha of Daniels, and Shane Bragg and wife Hollie of Crab Orchard.
Ten brothers and sisters, Richard Bragg and wife Mary of Christiansburg, Virginia, Macel Stone and husband Bunny of Christiansburg, Virginia, Barbara Gilberth and husband Bobby of Ellison, Virginia, Dale Bragg and wife Colleen of Radford, Virginia, Wanda Showalter of Arizona, David Akers of Tennessee, Phyllis Self of Virginia, Marie Cunningham and husband Jimmy of Ellison, Virginia, Sue Dickerson and husband Brownie of Christiansburg, Virginia, and Oral Bragg and wife Lisa of Johnson City, Tennessee, A brother-in-law, Paul Craighead of Virginia. Gaggie is survived by her extended family, Jack Lawson and wife, Betty, who were her long-term care givers, Brenda Slater, Ben Peyton; sister, Melba C. Stubbs; many nieces and nephews.

HILLDALE — Brenda Sue Cox, 65, of Hilldale, died Friday, February 14, 2014, at CAMC General Division in Charleston after a short illness.
Born May 12, 1948, in Bluefield, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Flora Frazier Harmon.
Brenda was a homemaker and loving wife, mother, Maw Maw, sister and friend to all who knew her. She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church at Powleys Creek, Summers County, and had lived most of her life in Summers County. Brenda greeted each person with a loving smile and she will be greatly missed by family and loved ones.
She was preceded in death by a son, James Douglas Cox, and also a brother, Henry Harmon.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Charles M. Cox. One son, Charles Matthew Cox and wife Angie of Forest Hill. Three daughters, Donna Sue Gill and husband Billy of Hinton, Sherri Grimmett and husband Jerry of Big Creek and Sarah Ann Bennett and husband Junior of Ballengee. Three sisters, including her twin, Barbara Doss of Hinton, and Violet Piasecki and Ivy Miller, both of Baltimore, MD. Five grandchildren, Amanda, Diane and Larry Jerrells, Emily Grimmett and Matthew Cox. Six great-grandchildren and several half brothers and sisters also survive.

PORT TOWNSEND, Wash. — Barbara Phillips Lucas, 78, formerly of Pineville, passed away at her home in Port Townsend, Wash., following a long illness.
Born March 7th, 1935, to Claude and Bethel Phillips, she was a graduate of Pineville High School, Mary Washington College, Marshall University and received her graduate degree from University of North Carolina. Barbara began her career as an educator in Pineville before relocating to Long Beach, California. She was employed as a broker for Merrill Lynch Real Estate in Prescott, Ariz., before later retiring to Port Townsend, Wash.
Barbara maintained a level of excellence in each of her life endeavors including her hobbies as a voracious reader, avid gardener, accomplished cook, and compassionate caregiver to many family members throughout her life. She will be remembered by her loved ones as someone who was quick to laugh, strongly independent, an adventurous spirit, and a joy to share time.
Preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Bethel Phillips of Beckley, and her son Robert Lucas of Long Beach, Calif., Barbara is survived by her husband, Eric Lucas, daughter Lindsay Lucas, son Matthew Lucas of Portland, Ore., sister Pat Heilman and husband Dr. Kenneth Heilman of Gainesville, Fla., brother Joe Phillips and wife Diana Phillips of Beckley, grandchildren Sebastian MacDonald of Oakland, Calif., Nebraska Lucas of Portland, Ore., and several adoring nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family will commemorate Barbara’s life at the family reunion this summer. A remembrance marker will be placed beside her parents in Sunset Memorial Park.

HILLDALE — Lloyd Garland Ward, 82, of Hilldale went home to be with the Lord Thursday, February 13, 2014, at the VA Medical Center following a long illness.
Born August 31, 1931, at Barksdale, he was a son of the late Enny S. and Beatrice Meadows Ward.
Mr. Ward was a member of the Rollynsburg Baptist Church, a retired welder for CSX Railroad and a United States Army and WV National Guard veteran.
He is preceded in death by one son, Phillip Ward, 1991; one sister, Genevieve Adkins, 1982; and one brother, Summers Ward, in 1961.
Those left to cherish his memory include one daughter, Lisa Ward of Hilldale; one grandson, Derek Lehew of Hilldale; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
