LINDISDE — Herman Lee Cole, 75, of Lindside, passed away Monday, December 9, 2013.

Funeral Services will be 1 p.m., Thursday, December 12, 2013 at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel, Peterstown, with Bro. Rodger Boothe and Bro. Dewey Broyles officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Grove Memorial Gardens, Lindside.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at the funeral home.

Dorothy Gale Hylton Ward Sizemore Craddock

Dorothy Gale Hylton Ward Sizemore Craddock 68, of MacArthur, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, on Monday, December 9, 2013, in the Bowers Hospice House, following a long illness.

Born September 19, 1945 in Stotesbury, she was the daughter of the late Bige and Juanita Smith Hylton.

Dorothy was a longtime employee at K-Mart in Beckley; she was a devout member of the Beckwith Apostolic Church, where she served in many capacities over the years. Dorothy loved the Lord, and showed that love every day to anyone who came in contact with her.  She was a servant who devoted her life to helping others in any way that she could.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Garland Ward Sr., her second husband Glen Sizemore, and her third husband Jack Craddock, her brother Luther Carl Hylton.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children Deborah Ward Carter and her companion Sammy and Garland Ward Jr. and his wife Jenine; three grandchildren, Garland Ward III, Jacinda Ward King and Ashton Peyton Carter. Her two great grandchildren Leah King, Jayleigh Ward. Her brother Larry Hylton, and her sisters Linda Hylton and Penney Burleson. A host of nieces, nephews, and her very dearly loved church family.

Services celebrating her life and devotion to her church will be held Friday, December 13, 2013 at 7 p.m. at the Beckwith Apostolic Church with her Pastor Rick Barker officiating.  Services will also be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2013 in the chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Home. Following the service Dorothy will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley

Friends may gather with the family on Friday evening from 5 p.m. until service time at the church. On Saturday from noon until service time at the funeral home. Family and friends are welcome to attend both services.

Dr. Billy Gean Dunn, E.D.D.

PETERSTOWN — Dr. Billy Gean Dunn, E.D.D, 82, of Peterstown, formerly of Fairmont, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at his home.

Monroe ‘Fred’ Hall

Monroe “Fred” Anderson Hall, 88, of Glen Rogers, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2013 at his residence following a short illness.

Born June 28, 1925 at Lick Fork in Fayette County, he was the son of the late Elmer and Jetta Mae (Williams) Hall.

Fred was a former coal miner, was a former Steel Mill employee in Delaware, a member of the Pinegrove Missionary Baptist Church, a Veteran of the US Air Force having served during World War II, and in his leisure he enjoyed playing music. He played numerous musical instruments and especially enjoyed playing the mandolin and electric guitar.

Fred was the last survivor of his immediate family. 

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by five brothers, Willard, Paul, Orie, Teddy and Donald; and three sisters, Lethie, Tina Mae and Betty.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Joyce Kay (Stewart) Hall; a son, Willard “Freddie” Hall and his wife, Michelle of Corinne; two grandchildren, Brooke Makenzie Hall and Seth Andrew Hall; two step-children, Terry Arnold Marcum of Ravencliff and Tonya Lester of Australia; his ex-wife, Mary Kay Hall of Pierpoint; four nieces, Carolyn Miller, Linda Hodges, Sheila Yenshaw and Valdena; two nephews, Roy Hall of Delaware and Billy Hall of Texas; and a best friend, Shirley Cozart of McGraws.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Pinegrove Missionary Baptist Church, Ravencliff with Dewayne Hurd officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

Friends may call one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Military honors will be conducted at the cemetery.

Phyllis Carol Mills Lilly

Phyllis Carol Mills Lilly, age 71 of Sophia, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family, friends, and her puppy “Honey”.

Born on July 26, 1942 at Fitzpatrick, she was the daughter of the late Shirley Mills and Margaret Brubaker Mills. She married her late husband Thomas Eugene Lilly on February 17, 1962.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Furmidge, by brothers, Shirley “Brother” Mills, Donald Ray Mills, and Charles Mills.

Phyllis was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and sister. She was a true friend to all who knew her. She will be sadly missed by all.

Phyllis was a member of the Lillybrook Freewill Baptist Church and was very dedicated to her church family.  She never lost faith or trust in the Lord.  She fought a hard battle and now she has won.

Survivors include two sisters, June Ann Mills Howington and her husband Ed of Virginia, and Gladys Mills Sexton of Coal City. Four sons, Tommy Lilly of Sophia, Jeff Lilly and his wife Gina of Fayetteville, WV, Randy Lilly of Sophia, and Craig Lilly of Sophia. A daughter,  Margaret Reed and her husband Eddie of Coal City.

Phyllis has nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and two great grandsons on the way. Many nieces and nephews and other family members also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Thursday December 12, 2013 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Lowell Black officiating. Burial will follow at the Thompson Cemetery at Coal City.

Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Tommy, Randy, Jeff, Craig, and J.T. Lilly, and Eddie Reed. Honorary pallbearer will be Travis Owens.

The family would like to thank most of all Dr. Oar, and Hospice of Southern WV for their compassionate care and the comfort that they provided to the family.

Syble Maxine Moye Lilly

ELLISON — Syble Maxine Moye Lilly, 84, of Ellison, passed away Monday, December 9, 2013 at the home of Deborah Cline at Lerona.

Born February 26, 1929 at Dunns, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late James E. and Ethel E. Meador Moye.

Syble was a graduate of Spanishburg High School and a member of the Ellison Missionary Baptist Church.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Dempsey Lilly in November 2010, four sisters and six brothers.

Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Bobby Lilly and wife Bonnie of Nimitz and Michael Lilly of Ellison; two grandchildren, Erika Lilly of Charleston and Katie Lilly and husband Luke of Nimitz and one sister, Betty Cox of Shady Spring.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, December 13, 2013 at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Ronnie Cobb officiating. Burial will follow in the Lilly Family Cemetery at Ellison.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of services Friday at the funeral parlors.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family would like to give special thanks to Debbie Cline and staff of Granny Deb’s for the excellent care provided for Maxine.

PENCE SPRINGS — Dorothy Elaine Lucas Raines, 55, of Pence Springs, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2013.

A celebration of life will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastors Roger Persinger and Cary J. Kirk officiating. Friends may call at the funeral parlors from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Following Dorothy’s wishes she will be cremated following the services.

Mary Katrine Brown Roy

RACINE — Mary Katrine (Brown) Roy of Racine, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013 following a brief illness.

The daughter of the late Joseph Shaw Brown and Laura Dagley Brown, Mary Katrine was born March 22, 1922 in Elsacoal, Ky.

She graduated from Sherman High School, Class of 1940,  where she was the first Miss Sherman. She returned to Sherman to begin her teaching career of over 30 years following her graduation from East Tennessee State Teacher’s College in 1944.

Mary Katrine was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Lyle Eugene Roy, as well as a brother, Richard Dean Brown and sister, Anna Mae Brown Shriver.

Mrs. Roy is survived by her son Richard Maurice Roy and wife, Suzie; her daughter, Roena Roy Barbre and husband Marvin, as well as seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and nephew, Bruce Shriver.

Mrs. Roy was an active member of Order of Eastern Star, Whitesville and Chelyan Chapters, serving as Worth Matron as well as Grand Organist for West Virginia Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star. She served on the Boone County Public Service Board, maintained membership in the East Tennessee State Alumni Association, Racine CEOS, and Boone County Retired Teachers’ Association. Much of her life was dedicated to service at Racine First Baptist Church where she served in many capacities over the years:  as choir director and the church’s only organist, Sunday School teacher of the Pioneer class, president of the American Baptist Women and Leota Campbell Circle, president of the Coal River Baptist Association of American Baptist Women.

A celebration of Mary Katrine’s life will be conducted at Racine First Baptist Church on Thursday, December 12, at 1 o’clock. The service will be conducted by her son-in-law, Dr. Marvin Barbre and Rev. Anthony Pratt. Internment will follow at Pineview Cemetery.  Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. in the sanctuary of Racine First Baptist Church and one hour prior to the service.

The family would like to thank all those who enabled us to keep Mother in her home, especially Martha Burke and Donna Moore.

Anna Marie Smith

GREENVILLE — Anna Marie Smith, 81 of Greenville, passed away Sunday morning, December 8, 2013 at Springfield Center at Lindside following a long illness. 

  She was born at Creamery, W.Va.,  September 5, 1932, a daughter of the late Masil G. and Erma Laura McCallister Walthall.

  She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Pendleton Smith Jr. on September 26, 2013.

  Mrs. Smith was retired from the Springfield Center at Lindside as an LPN. She also was a former employee of the Andrew S. Home. She was a member of the Mt. Hedding United Methodist Church at Lillydale were she also served as a youth leader, lay speaker and Sunday School teacher.

  Mrs. Smith attended college to earn her LPN License at the same time her daughter, Wanda, was attending college. 

  Surviving are three children, Douglas Glenn Smith and wife, Gracie of Chrisney, Ind., Anita Wells and husband, Michael of Bluefield, Va., Wanda Smith and husband, Dwayne Hensley of Greenville; five grandchildren, Masil and Travis Smith, Aaron and Adam Wells and Jessie Hensley; five great grandchildren; four  sisters, Norene Pence of Alderson, Doris Lilly of Talcott, Lois Roles and husband, Bob of Greenville and Faye Hancock of Union.

  Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, December 15, 2013 at the Groves Funeral Home Chapel in Union, WV with Rev. Herman Jones and Rev. Hughlyn Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Hedding Cemetery at Lillydale. 

  Friends may call at the Groves Funeral Home in Union from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, December 14, 2013.

HOLDEN — Carl Randolph White Jr., 65, of Holden, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2013.

Celebration of Life will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Verdunville Church of God with Bishop Michael Hartwell officiating. Graveside services with Military honors will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Verdunville Church of God.
