KOPPERSTON — Shelia Ann Carbaugh Daugherty, 45, of Kopperston, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2012.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 26, at the Lynco Pentecostal House of Prayer, Lynco, with Pastor Firg Proffitt officiating. Burial will follow in Kopperston Community Cemetery, Kopperston. Friends may gather with the family from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the church.

ROCKWELL, N.C. — Naomi Linville Elkins, 83, of Rockwell, formerly of Oceana, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2012.

Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 25, in Palm Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Matheny, with Pastor Erwin Gregory officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny. Friends may gather with the family from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at the mausoleum.

David Till Fritz

David Till Fritz, age 60, of Daniels, went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, May 15, 2012. He made a profound confession of faith to all his family and acquaintances.

Born on June 4, 1951, at Daniels, he was the son of the late Wilbur David Fritz and Joy Cochran Fritz.

He was a self-employed building construction worker. David had lived most of his life at Daniels.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife Darla Shuck Fritz; a daughter Sabrina Williams and her husband Randy Williams of Beckley; a grandson Brian R. Thomas; two aunts, Nordeen Vest and Anita Cochran, both of Ohio; a brother-in-law, Bernard Campbell and his wife Sheila of Shady Spring; a sister-in-law, Linda Spradlin of Pasadena, Md.; nephews, Mike Spradlin, Jeff and Greg Spradlin, Rocky Campbell, and a niece Teri Spradlin-Dahn. Several cousins and many friends are also among his survivors. He will be sadly missed by many.

A memorial service will be held at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Saturday, May 26, 2012, at 3 p.m. with Brian Thomas officiating. His cremains will be buried at the Cochran Cemetery at Daniels.

Friends may call thirty minutes prior to the service.

Pearly May Dolinger Green

2nd Timothy 4:7 “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”

On Saturday, May 19, 2012, our most cherished, Pearly May Dolinger Green of Crab Orchard, passed away at her home following a long illness. She was only 55 years of age.

Known affectionately as “Pearl,” Pearly May Dolinger was born September 10, 1956, in Newport News, Va. She was the beloved daughter of Emma Jane Cook Dolinger and the late Willis Odell Dolinger. Her sister, Brenda Saunders, has preceded her in death.

Pearl was the Canteen Manager at the VFW Post 4326 in Midway, WV, for 10-plus years.

Pearl was residing in Crab Orchard with her longtime companion, Robert Hilton. Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Douglas Scott Green and his wife, Antoinette, of Crab Orchard, and their daughters, Krista and Brianna, Richard Brian Green and his fiancée, Lisa Honaker, of Upper Sandlick, and their son, Kristopher; brother, Willis O. Dolinger II and his wife, Pam, of Dothan; nephews, Roger Plumley, Rodney Plumley and Zac Dolinger; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Pearl will be sadly missed.

The family would like to send its thanks to WVU Cancer Center and Beckley Hospice for all they had done through this difficult time.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 26, 2012, at 12 noon at Bethel Freewill Baptist in Crab Orchard; flowers can be received from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Kenny Lambert will be officiating.

Leffie E. Jarrell

Leffie E. Jarrell, 35, of Dameron, passed away unexpectedly on May 22, 2012. He was a coal miner with Alpha Natural Resources.

Leffie is survived by his loving wife, Sherri; two beautiful children, Alexandria Paige and Johnathon Harly. Leffie also leaves behind his parents, Bonnie and Freddie Jarrell of Dameron; sisters and husbands, Mary and Malcolm Stiles of Huntington, W.Va., and Sandra and Lou Brooks of Posey Saxon, W.Va.; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, extended family and a host of friends.

Leffie was a bass-master fisherman and hunter. He loved riding his dirt bike with his wife and children. He was also an awesome coach for wrestling and football.

Services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012, at the Fleshman Cemetery, Dameron.

Family and friends will be able to visit and pay respects from 12 noon until time of the service Saturday at the cemetery.

Nina Ruth Lowry Lacy

Nina Ruth Lowry Lacy, 62, of Sophia, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at the Bowers Hospice House of Southern West Virginia, following a short illness.

She was born August 7, 1949, in Beckley to Madison Woodrow and Evelyn Beatrice Whitehead Lowry.

She was a 1967 graduate of Sophia High School and also attended Beckley College. Nina was employed with Alpha Natural Resources as an Assistant Safety Director and also worked for RESA as an EMT instructor. She was a longtime paramedic and volunteer rescue member with the Sophia Area and Sophia City Fire Departments. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling, and playing bingo.

Nina is survived by her four children Kimberly Scott and husband Bryan of Sarasota, Fla., Kenneth Lacy II and wife Jodie of Crab Orchard, Kelly Lacy and wife Kim of Crab Orchard, and Keith Lacy and wife Kris of Fort Rucker, Ala.; 12 grandchildren Seth Scott, Ashley Toney and husband Jason, Brett Lacy, Koty Sawyers, Sheyenne Scott, Kourtney Lacy, Zach Green, Zac Pell, Tyler Lacy, Caleb Pell, Kelcie Lacy, and Tanner Lacy; one great-granddaughter Kenna Lacy; two brothers Madison Lowry II and wife Ann of Florida and Steve Lowry and wife Susan of California; two sisters Sharon Lowry-Wood of W.Va. and Annette Morris and husband Pat of Wash.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at Bethel Freewill Baptist Church in MacArthur with Jim Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at Hot Coal Cemetery in Coal City.

Friends may join the family for visitation on Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Bethel Freewill Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be firefighters, EMS, and law enforcement.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to the Bowers Hospice House of Southern West Virginia, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV 25801.

Louise Lilly 93, of Beckley, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2012.

Marlene Rolanda Martin

TALCOTT — Marlene Rolanda Martin, 44, of Talcott, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center.

Born December 31, 1967, at Cleveland, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Woodrow E. “Woody” and Blanche L. Hightower Martin.

Marlene was a homemaker. She attended the Church of the Living God at Madams Creek. She enjoyed collecting crystal figurines, bears and jewelry, cooking and spending time with her friends and family.

She was preceded in death by one brother Darrell Hicks.

Those left to cherish her memory include: two sons, Patrick Maurice “P.J.” Garrett of Talcott and Dalton Elijah Lee Smith of Talcott; two sisters, Darlene Mardinia and husband Charlie of Mesa, Ariz., and Aldona Reese of Talcott; one brother, Norman Martin and wife Jeanie of Cleveland, Ohio; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012, at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlor Chapel with Pastor Ron Iddings officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery on Powley’s Creek.

Friends may call at the funeral parlors from noon until time of services on Saturday.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Helen Louise McKinney

Helen Louise McKinney, a resident of Greystone Village at Beaver, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2012.

She was born at Gary, on April 10, 1923, a daughter of the late Isaiah and Rachel E. Parks Lane. Helen was a member of the Oak Grove Christian Church of Beckley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Enoch (Red) McKinney, in 1994; a son, Jerald E. McKinney, in 2006; a daughter, Jaunita E. Nocida, in 2011; brothers, Preston A., Joseph L., James F., George H., Robert H., and Arnold E. Lane; sisters, Viola L. Taylor, A. Imogene Lane, Ada E. Rorrer, Elnora A. Lane, and G. Virginia Bishop. Helen was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She is survived by a son, James E. (Sharon) McKinney of Cortland, Ohio; granddaughter, Misty McKinney (Mark White) of Happy Valley, Ore.; grandson, Jamie (Erin) of Cortland, Ohio; son-in-law, Domenick Nocida of Wheeling, W.Va.; grandson, Nicholas C. (Corrine) Nocida of Wethersfield, Conn.; great-granddaughter, Nicole C. Nocida; grandson, Paul F. (Julia) Nocida of Charleston, S.C.; daughter-in-law, Rosa J. McKinney of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; a special niece, Jeanette E. Velez of Niles, Mich.; nephew, Bob Lane of Pipestem, W.Va.; several other nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Saturday 3 p.m. at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Minister B. Kelly Gowen officiating. Following the services Helen will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton.

Friends may gather with the family from Saturday 2 p.m. until time of the service at the funeral home.

Capt. Cecil A. ‘Fuzzy’ Neal

FAYETTEVILLE — Captain Cecil Alfred “Fuzzy” Neal, 69, of Fayetteville, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at home.

Born on March 28, 1943, at Montgomery, he was the son of the late Cecil Robert and Blanche Adair Smith Neal.

Fuzzy was a graduate of Fayetteville High School, received his B.A. in Political Science from WVU and his Masters of Social Work from Marshall University.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army, achieving the rank of Military Police Captain. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam, he earned an Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/six Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and three Bronze Stars and a Meritorious Unit Citation. After being discharged from the Army he joined the WV National Guard.

Fuzzy was a retired juvenile service employee of the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources where he worked for 32 years. He was a former river guide with Class VI, a former WV SSAC high school football official, a volunteer for Camp Kismet, and he served on the State of WV Governors Committee on crime, delinquency and corrections.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Edith Campolio Neal; nephew, Eric F. Neal; and son-in-law, Mark Delaney.

Left to cherish his memory include the love of his life, Carolyn Avers of Fayetteville; daughter, Cybil Neal Delaney of North Carolina; son, B.J. Neal of Tampa, Fla.; stepdaughter, Dana Reese of Dunbar; five grandchildren: Drew Delaney, Baylee Delaney, Zoe Neal, Harlow Neal, and Jessica Meador; great-granddaughter, Emma; mother of his children, Lovelene Bauders; and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, May 24, 2012, in the mausoleum at Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville, with Pastor Ron George Jr. officiating. Burial with military honors by American Legion Post 149 will follow service.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 12 noon at the mausoleum.

Darlie ‘Dobbin’ Richard Plumley

Darlie “Dobbin” Richard Plumley, age 70, of Plumley Mountain Road, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at home, following a long illness.

Born on August 25, 1941, in Pear, W.Va., he was the son of the late Willie “Bill” and Unie Bennett Plumley.

After working for the Anchor Fence Company he started working for the C&O Railroad (CSX Transportation) where he remained for 20 years. He then retired because of declining health.

He was a member of New Salem Baptist Church at Abraham, but had most recently attended Pinelodge Chapel, where he volunteered to help take patients to the church services until he became too ill to assist.

Darlie enjoyed gardening and enjoyed sharing with neighbors and friends, the fruits of his labor.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Richard Carl Plumley; brothers, Buddy and Abraham Plumley; sisters, Katherine and Lola Plumley; son-in-law, Joel “Joey” Plumley.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Anna Pearl Plumley of Plumley Mountain; daughters, Freda Mae Plumley of Beckley and Karen Annette Plumley at home, and son Ritchie Plumley and wife Laura of Plumley Mountain, and Kim Plumley of Plumley Mountain, whom he called his “other daughter,” and his special dog, Sammie; a sister Sarah Mills Plumley and her husband Harry of Plumley Mountain; brothers, Bobby Plumley of Plumley Mountain and Emery Plumley and his wife Avelou of Cool Ridge; an Aunt Goldie Bennett Plumley and her husband Clinton of Plumley Mountain; and Uncles Noah Bennett of Plumley Mountain and Bobby Bennett and his wife, Lena, of Beckley; a best friend Rheo Plumley and a special buddy, Jaime Plumley.

Graveside service and burial will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2012, at noon at the Washington Plumley Cemetery on Plumley Mountain Road, Shady Spring.

Irene Elizabeth Redden

Irene Elizabeth Gwinn Redden, age 83, of Shady Spring, passed away on Saturday, May 19, 2012, at her home.

Born on May 2, 1929, at Longbottom, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Grant Gwinn and Bertha Bragg Gwinn.

She was a homemaker, and was a member of the Open Door Church at Shady Spring. Mrs. Redden had made her home in the Bragg and Shady Spring areas most of her life.

Mrs. Redden was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Burgess Redden, and by an infant brother.

Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her children, Blaine Redden and his wife Anita of Beckley, Ellen Lilly and her husband Danny of Shady Spring, Stevie Redden and his wife Diane of Casselbury, Fla., and Emmy Dorsey and her husband Charles of Daniels; grandchildren, Juddith Plumley, Regina Whitenburg, Adam Redden, Thad Dorsey, Tarrah Trump, Kelly Richmond, Casey Roop, Ceresa Hickman, Ashley Dolin and Sheila McDermitt; great-grandchildren, Joseph Whittenburg, Ethan Hickman, Haley Hickman, Felicity Cadle, Brinleigh Dorsey, Evan Dorsey, Samuel Plumley, Jacob Plumley, Chessie Plumley, Delaney Trump, Megan Trump, Jeremy Trump, Megan Richmond, Hunter Richmond, Raegen Lilly, Gracie Johnson, Devin Dolin, Tucker and Abbey Rose, and a sister Lucille Looney and her husband Jim of Beaver.

The family extends thanks to Hospice of Southern WV, especially Patty Atterson for their care and support. The family also extends special thanks to Casey Roop, and her two daughters, Raegen and Gracie, for all the love and help that they have shown through some very difficult years, and to her granddaughter Kelly Richmond for being by her grandmother’s side, giving comfort, while she passed over.

Ret. Staff Sgt. Larry D. Richardson

ESMONT, Va. — Retired Vietnam veteran Staff Sgt. Larry Dean Richardson, formerly of Maple Meadow, died March 4, 2011.

By his request he was cremated and his remains will be buried at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 26, with full military honors at the Bryson-Richardson Cemetery on the hill in Maple Meadow. The family invites everyone to visit with Larry’s family at 229 Magna Court for a luncheon after the burial.

Mary Angeline ‘Ann’ Taylor

Mary Angeline “Ann” Taylor, 75, of Elk Knob Road, Hinton, passed away at 6:47 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at her home.

Born December 24, 1936, in Hinton, she was the daughter of the late Frank William and Louverna Adkins Steers.

Ann was a devoted homemaker and attended Chestnut Grove Baptist Church at Hix. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and was a friend to all. She enjoyed crafting and was truly a “cheerful giver.” Ann was a lifelong resident of Summer County.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clinton and Frederick F. “Buddy” Steers, and one sister, Martha Virginia “Ginny” Ward.

Survivors include her loving husband of 58 years, Jay Taylor; one son, Anthony Taylor and wife Rhonda of Hinton; one daughter, Louverna Brown and husband Mike of Hinton; four grandchildren, Shelly Barnes, Michael Todd Brown, Autumn Ward and Clinton Taylor; four great-grandchildren, Jacob Woodrum, Emily Barnes, Rebekah Barnes and Khloeigh Brown; one sister, Elizabeth Lambert of Hinton; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews along with a host of close friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012, at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Benny Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Hilltop Cemetery in Hinton.
