Pearl Church Bailey

OCEANA — Pearl Church Bailey, 85, of Oceana, WV, passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2013, in Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, after a long illness.

She was born June 2, 1927, in Panther, WV, a daughter of the late Matthew and Flora Roberts Church.

She was also preceded in death by a brother Lawrence Church and 4 sisters, Edith, Edna, Florence and Georgia.

Pearl was a homemaker and loving wife and mother.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of sixty-six years Grant Bailey, a sister Arizona Brown of Collinsville, VA, a son Larry Bailey and wife Joyce of Oceana; three daughters Jane Morgan and husband Marvin of Belleview, FL, Joyce Asbury and husband Falous of King George, VA, and Judy Pinson and husband Rob of Beckley; seven grandchildren Jennifer Brooks, Jodie Bailey, Daniel Bailey, Jamie Morgan, Timothy Morgan, Amy Jill Marden and Jobe Thornsbury, eleven great-grandchildren Clay, Morgan and Faith Brooks; Peyton, Madison and Jasmine Morgan; Ava and Zachery Bailey; Gabby Stacy, Jack and Dylan Marden. The family would like to thank the Bowers Hospice House, caregiver Judy St.Clair; a good friend and neighbor Ruth Walker; and a host of other loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV, with Pastor Algie Cook officiating. She will be laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at the funeral home.

David Ray Bell

ENON — David Ray Bell, 61, of Enon, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013. 

Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, in the Seventh Day Adventist Church at Summersville with Pastor Jim Buchanon officiating. In keeping with his wishes he was cremated.

In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 70 Friends R Fun Drive, Summersville, WV 26651.

Phyllis Sue Boone

LEWISBURG — Phyllis Sue Boone, 74, went to be with the Lord and her loving husband, Roger, on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, after a short illness.

Born September 1, 1938, in Minnehaha Springs, WV, she was the daughter of the late Dale and Audrey Cleek Loury.

Mrs. Boone had been a resident of Lewisburg for many years, member of the Old Stone Presbyterian Church, Lewisburg, member of the Laurate Alpha Epsilon Sorority, former owner of Crawfords Foodland in Fairlea and Greenbrier Bowling and Recreational Center, Lewisburg, and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Audrey Cleek Loury, and her husband, Roger A. Boone.

Survivors include her daughter, Terri Boone Dowdy and husband, Bruce, of Maxwelton, two sons, Kevin Johnson and wife, Cathy, of Harrisburg, NC, and Todd Boone and wife, Tish, of Organ Cave, two sisters, Judy Workman and husband, Jimmy, of Mt. Ulla, NC, and Sandy Wagner and husband, Keith, of Harrisburg, NC, one brother, David Loury and wife, Peggy, of Mt. Ulla, NC, and special brother-in-law, Col. Daniel Boone of Organ Cave, grandchildren, Drew and Tayler Dowdy, Alise Johnson, Josh Goodman and Renee, Lindsey, Morgan, Raylen, Austin, Mikayla and Bailey Boone, and great-grandchildren, Jacob, Sarah, Mark and Bella.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 20013, at the Old Stone Presbyterian Church, Lewisburg, with Rev. Dexter Taylor officiating. Burial to follow in the Salem Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Organ Cave.

Friends and family may call from 12 noon till time of the service at 2 p.m. at the Old Stone Presbyterian Church, Thursday, February 7, 2013.

BRIER CREEK — Sandra Eddie Woods Compton, 67, of Brier Creek, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013.

Goldie Deloris Lucas Neal Duncan

On Saturday, February 2, 2013, God sent his Angels to escort Goldie Deloris Lucas Neal Duncan through the pearly gates of Heaven after an extended illness on this earth. Goldie was a long-term resident of Coal City, WV, most recently a resident of the Ansted Center Nursing Facility.

She was a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Dora Jane Mullins Lucas.

Goldie attended the Cornerstone Freewill Baptist Church in Crab Orchard, WV.

In addition to her parents, Goldie is preceded in death by two former husbands; 4 brothers, Kenneth Lucas, Franklin Lucas, Harry Lucas and Herbert Lucas; 4 sisters, Bessie Legg, Maxine Miller, Erma Brown, and baby sister, Anna Lucas.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Roger Neal and wife Patricia of Belington, WV; grandsons, Timothy Neal and wife Samantha of Morgantown, WV, and Brian Neal of Belington, WV.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 2013, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Pastor Roger Tolliver officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Friends may gather with the family Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

SUMMERSVILLE — James Kesley Egnor III, 42, of Summersville died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013.

C.E. ‘Buddy’ Elder

GLEN JEAN — C.E. “Buddy” Elder, 65, of Glen Jean, WV, died on Friday, February 1, 2013, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, WV.

Born June 14, 1947, at Maple Fork, WV, he was the son of the late Fred Thomas and Sara Frances Prather Elder.

He was the retired owner of C&B Auto Salvage.

Buddy was a U.S. Army veteran.

A son, Clarence Edward Elder, Jr., preceded him in death.

Survivors include his companion, Sandra Gill, stepdaughter, Audrey Cook of Minden, two brothers, Wayne Elder of Harvey and James Elder of Clear Creek; and one sister, Drema Smith of Maple Fork.

He is also survived by three step grandchildren, Austin Suttle, Tiffany Cook and Anna Cook, six nephews, four nieces, three great-nephews, six great-nieces and four great-great-nephews.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, February 7, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope with Rev. Danny Damron officiating. Burial will be at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Thomas Milton Hicks

NITRO — Thomas Milton Hicks, 74, of Nitro, WV, went to be with the Lord on January 31, 2013. He was a wonderful Christian man who loved the Lord first and foremost.

Thomas retired as a military police officer in the U.S. Army after 20 years of service and was a supervisor for Guardsmark Inc. for 20 years. He enjoyed fishing, baseball, but his true love was spreading the word of the Lord to others during his 15-plus years as a preacher.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Nora Hicks, 4 brothers, and 2 sisters.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Carolyn Hicks; daughters Connie (Will) Snyder of Eccles, Michelle Bowles of Nitro, Melissa Vest of Charleston; 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; brother Larry (Bonnie) Hicks of Shady Spring, and sister Carolyn Lilly of Sophia.

Services celebrating the life and ministry of Rev. Hicks will be held on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Dean Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the Slab Fork Community Cemetery, Tams Mountain.

Friends may gather with the family from noon until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

MAN — Helen Morgan, 82, of Man, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013.

PINEVILLE — Ernie May Tolliver Perry, 81, of Pineville, passed away Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013.

William Joseph ‘Bill’ Reed

HICO — William Joseph “Bill” Reed, age 72, of Hico, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 1, 2013, at his home.

Born on March 24, 1940, at Glen Morgan, he was the son of the late James A. Reed and Norma Epperly Reed.

Mr. Reed was a retired coal miner, and was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving from 1959 until 1963. He was a member of the Sunday Road Baptist Church at Hico, and had made his home at Hico for nearly 42 years.  

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife Denise Campbell Reed.

Three sons, Mark Reed and his wife Amy of Hico, Adam Roberts of Oak Hill, and Joseph E. Roberts and his wife Shalaine of Jacksonville, Arkansas.

A brother Carl Reed and his wife Dora of Glen Morgan, 2 grandchildren, Ashton and Blake, two special grandchildren Taylor and T.C. Perry. 3 special friends Harry Treadway, Marshall Wilson, and Donzie Pack.

Matthew 25:23 “Well done, good and faithful servant.” II Corinthians 5:8 “Absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.” Psalms 121:1-2 “I will lift up my eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.”

Funeral services will be conducted to Celebrate The Life Of William “Bill” Reed on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at the Sunday Road Baptist Church, Hico, WV, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Allen Donaldson officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley.

Friends may visit with the family at the church from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

Friends will serve as pallbearers.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Oak Hill VFW Post #3110 Honor Guard.

RICHWOOD — Leland Mack Spencer, 82, of Richwood, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, in Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood, with Pastor Jenny Russ officiating. Interment will be in Richwood Cemetery, Richwood. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, in the funeral home.

Patsy Stone

“I want my flowers while I’m living,” is something Pasty Carol Stone used to say all the time. She wanted to enjoy things while she was alive, instead of them being useless to her in death. On Saturday, February 2nd, 2013, Patsy joined her boys in heaven. She was 74 years of age.

Patsy Carol Acord was born on April 11, 1938, at Rock Creek. She has made a happy home with her beloved husband, John Robert Stone, for the past 54 years. Patsy’s family was her greatest source of happiness and pride.

Patsy was preceded in death by her two precious sons, Robert Dean Stone and Thomas Paul Stone.

In addition to John Robert, Patsy leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Patti Dickens and her husband, Tom; a daughter-in-law, Kelly Stone; her grandchildren, Shannon Taylor and her husband, Kenneth, Amanda Birchfield, Patrick Dickens, Jessica Stone and Haley Stone; her great-grandchildren, Issac Young, Thomas Young, Chloe Fink and Jolene Taylor; as well as many, many friends, her extended family and neighbors.

On Tuesday, February 5th, at 1 p.m. we will remember the life of Patsy Stone with a “Service of Remembrance” at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Jerry Brooks Jr. will be officiating. Patsy will then be laid to rest beside her sons at her home place in Fairdale.

The family will receive friends from noon until the service hour.

Pallbearers will be: Dan Kingery, James Allen, Hobert Allen, Eric Clemons, Patrick Dickens and Issac Young.

In lieu of flowers, monetary gifts to offset the funeral expenses can be made to the Melton Mortuary. The Stone family will be so appreciative.

Vanessa Dale Raines Yoney

OAK HILL — Vanessa Dale Raines Yoney, 56, of Oak Hill, WV, died on Friday, February 1, 2013, at her home.

Born August 28, 1956, at Beckley, WV, she was the daughter of the late Dorothy L. Raines Amick and stepdaughter of Alvin L. “Bob” Amick.

Vanessa was a member of the Crooked Run Community Church and a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Daniel Yoney and wife, Angela, of Beckley and Mark Yoney, and a brother, Allen Amick.

She is also survived by two grandsons, Aaron Yoney and Jacob Burdette.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. Phillip Fuller officiating. Burial will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Oak Hill.
