Kimberly Jean Newman

NETTIE — Kimberly Jean Newman, 43, died Monday, January 14, 2013.

Services will be conducted Friday, January 18, 2013, at 11 a.m., in Waters Funeral Chapel at Summersville, with Pastor Stewart Stover officiating. Burial will follow in the Allen Family Cemetery at Upper Nicut.

Friends may call at the funeral chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening.

Aretta Mae ‘Teddy’ O’Dell

HICO — Aretta Mae “Teddy” O’Dell, 59, formerly of Richwood, passed away  Saturday, January 12, 2013.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2013, at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood, Pastor Ron George Sr. and Pastor Ron George Jr. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park, Richwood.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood.

Mary Christlean Taylor Onion

Mary Christlean Taylor Onion, 92, of Beckley, fell sweetly asleep in the Lord, Friday, January 11, 2013.  

Born August 24, 1920, in Sylvia, W.Va., daughter of the late Samuel B. and Arena K. Williams Taylor. Besides her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Cephas Hugo Onion; son, Thomas N. Cox Jr.; five sisters and three brothers.

A 1938 graduate of Stratton High School, she was also an alumna of the former Beckley College. She was employed at BARH, Mountaineer Clinic, Sears and Roebuck, and served in various assignments through the Title V and Green Thumb Programs.

For more than 65 years, she was a dedicated member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Beckley, serving as a member of the Sanctuary Choir, Senior Usher Board, Hospitality Committee, Service Guild, Missionary Society, weekly Adult Bible Class and Prayer Group, and Adult Sunday School Class; also a former member of the Friendly Few Club, Order of Eastern Star AF&AM, the Raleigh County NAACP, and was a Campaign Collector for the March of Dimes.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter Gwendolyn Dianne (Rev. Louis E. Jr.) Ridgley, of Uniontown, Pa.; five grandchildren; one foster grandson; eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.  

Services will be noon on Friday, January 18, 2013 at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 770 So. Fayette St., Beckley. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may call two hours prior to the service at the church.
