Jerry Michael Campbell

Jerry Michael Campbell, 57, of Stanaford died Sunday, December 23, 2012, at 8:45 p.m.

Born July 3, 1955, in Welch, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Andrew Barton Campbell and Mary Alice Taylor.

Mr. Campbell was a construction worker.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jesse Campbell and Paul Campbell, and his sister, Bonnie Campbell Forte.

Those left to cherish his precious memories are his wife, Connie Campbell of Stanaford, West Virginia; grandchildren, Steven Lilly, Katrina Lilly, Cayla McKillip all of Shady Spring, West Virginia; brothers, Ronnie Campbell of Georgia; Roy Campbell of Lanark, West Virginia; and Terry Lee Campbell of Beckley, West Virginia; a sister, Mary Rebecca (Dexter) Forte of New Jersey; special friends, Marvin Smoot, and Brian Keith Miller both of Beckley, WV; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, December 31, 2012, at Ritchie & Johnson Funeral Parlor Chapel, 748 South Fayette St., Beckley, WV, with Pastor Debra Smoot officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral parlor.

Ina Cook

Ina Cook, age 88, of Beckley, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at the Bowers Hospice House following an extended illness.

She was born on August 6, 1924, in Itmann, WV.

Ms. Cook enjoyed cooking for her family and was a devoted member of Maxwell Hill Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Bernice Cook Ellison; and a brother, Warren Tolliver.

Those left behind to cherish her memory include her twin sister, Iris Cook of Beckley, and sister, Iva Halsey of Bellevue, Ohio; brother, Chester Ellison of Beckley; and a nephew, John Halsey of Bellevue, Ohio.

A celebration of Ms. Cook’s life will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, December 30, 2012, at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Chapel in Beckley with Pastor Ken Killen officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Prosperity.

Friends may call from 12 to 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel.

In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV 25801.

Janice J. Daddario

LEWISBURG — Janice J. Daddario, 76, passed away peacefully at her home in Lewisburg, WV, on December 27th, 2012, after a short illness.

Janice was retired from Bendix Corporation and lived in Florida for several years.

She enjoyed being with Family and Friends. Janice was preceded in death by her Husband Albert S. Daddario in 2010.

Born July 30th, 1936, in White Sulphur Springs, WV, she was the daughter of the late Woodrow and Catherine Jones, both of White Sulphur Springs.

Survivors include two Sons, William J Haynes II, wife Deborah of Union, WV, Douglas (Bub) L. Baker, wife Judy of Droop Mt., WV, Grandchildren, Doug Leigh, Seneca, Jonathan and wife Traci, Joseph Haynes, Heather and Jason Barton of MD, and Doug and Stephanie Burns of Marlinton, WV; 5 Great-Grandchildren, Abigail Haynes (“the apple of her eye”), Dylan Leigh, Chad, Allie and Rachel. She is also survived by StepDaughter Fran Daddario and StepSons, Tom Daddario, wife LeAnn, Michael Daddario, wife Cathy and Joey Daddario.

Services will be held at Greenbrier Memorial Gardens Mausoleum on Sunday,  December 30th, at 2 p.m., with visitation starting at 1 p.m. The service will be officiated by The Reverend Susan Erskine of The New Covenant Church in Fairlea, WV.

Reba Icey Elkins

Reba Icey Elkins, age 93, of Beckley, WV, passed away on December 25, 2012. Born at Powellton, WV, she was the daughter of the late Wyatt V. Oxley Sr. and Mattie W. Smith Oxley.

Reba was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved taking care of her home, gardening, and cooking. She spent many hours helping to prepare and serve luncheons at the United Methodist Temple where she was a member.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Virgil, Daughter Mary Dee Littlejohn, brother Wyatt V. Oxley Jr., and  sisters June Williams and Louise King.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Karen S. Schneider and her husband Donald of Bella Vista, AR, Brenda K. Ritch and her husband Autrey of Beckley, and a son Gregory K. Elkins and his wife Heather of Raleigh, NC. Sisters, Juanita Harrah of Beckley, Shirley Grose of Crab Orchard, and Bette Jo Sturgill of Beltsville, Md. Brothers, Tom Oxley of Indian Trail, NC, Donald Oxley of Orange Park, FL, and Phil Oxley of Chesapeake, Va. Grandchildren, Todd Littlejohn, Dennis Ritch, Darren Ritch and Angela Ritch. Great-grandchildren, Molly, Mattie and Macey Littlejohn, Olivia Ritch, and Braden Ritch. Stepgreat-grandchildren, Brittney and Alaina Liendo.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 29, 2012, from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home in Beckley with services following at 2 p.m. with Rev. Betty Lusk officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Reba’s memory to the Beckley Area Foundation Trail Scholarship  Fund, 129 Main St. Suite 203, Beckley, WV 25801.

Mrs. Louise Lester, 59, of Beckley died Friday, Dec. 28, 2012.

June Stover Mabe

Wanda June Stover Mabe, 92, of Beckley died Thursday, December 27, 2012, at Greystone Inn following a short illness.

Born on Jan. 8, 1920, in Stover, she was the daughter of the late Omer O. and Ocie Mae Clay Stover.

June, as she was affectionately known, spent her childhood on Harper Road where she was a lifelong resident. She was a member of the Church of Christ on Carriage Drive where she taught Bible School and Sunday School classes. She was a 1937 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and received her teaching degree from Concord College. She began her teaching career at Crab Orchard Elementary and taught in Raleigh, Boone, Wyoming and Mercer counties and retired as the Elementary Career Coordinator for Raleigh County. June had over 37 years of service in the field of education.

She was a member of the NEA, Senior Friends, Raleigh County Retired Teachers’ Association. She loved to garden and crochet. She also loved to travel and visited the Holy Land, Australia, Hawaii, Canada, Alaska, and traveled extensively on the east coast.

In addition to her parents, in 1984, she was preceded in death by her husband, William W. Mabe. She also was preceded in death by her grandson, Gregory Garten, in 2010 and her aunt, Blanche Wood Ashworth.

Survivors include two daughters, Billie June “Toy” Givens and husband Carroll of Daniels and Sandra Sue “Susie” Beha and husband Jim of Flat Top. Four grandchildren include Lisa Sue Keiling and husband Brian, Misti Michele Carpenter and husband Mike, William Brent Beha and his wife Marsha, and Adam Blake Beha. Two great-grandchildren include William Edward and Jessica Keiling.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 30, 2012, in the Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Minister Brent Bishop officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, Beckley. Friends may call Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of service.

Pallbearers will be family members and friends.

The family request that donations of sympathy be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to The Villages of Greystone friends, staff, and care givers and to the Hospice of Southern West Virginia nurses.

James Edward Shaffer

James Edward Shaffer, 74, of Piney View, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at his home following an extended illness.

Born November 22, 1938, in Sprague, WV, to the late Clarence and Helen Shaffer.

He served our country in the United States Air Force. He was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America and was a retired welder from J.O. Lively Construction Company. He also enjoyed traveling and dining out.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Kenneth and Lewis Shaffer; sister, Hazel Taylor; and his mother-in-law, Ruby Morris.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 50 years, Mrs. Ruth Ann Shaffer, at home; daughters, Mary Ann Bolen and husband Edward of Coal City, and Sarah Jane Redden and husband Jerry of Piney View; son, Douglas Keith Jackson of Harper Heights; brothers, Harold Shaffer and wife Carol of MD, Larry Shaffer of Florida; sisters, Sharon Shields and husband Butch of VA, and Linda Shaffer of Sprague; 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson.

A celebration of Mr. Shaffer’s life will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 30, 2012, at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Chapel in Beckley with Pastor Cecil Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held on Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
