LEWISBURG — James C. Gregory, 73, of Lewisburg, died Wednesday, July 10, 2013.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, July 14, at the Grace Open Bible Church at Asbury. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Morgan Funeral Home, Lewisburg.

Brenda C. Hairston

Brenda C. Carter Hairston, 66, of 115 Patton Drive, Beckley, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2013, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, following a long illness.

Born Sept. 15, 1946, in Beckley, she was the daughter of the late Henry V. and Ardelia Pannell Carter.

She was a 1964 graduate of Stratton High School. She retired as a postal clerk for the United States Postal Service with 33 years of service in both Jersey City, N.J., and Beckley.

She was a longtime member of New Hope Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ardelia “Dee” Pannell Carter; two brothers, Osman Mekki and Letlo Carter; four sisters, Lois Carter, Patricia Hayes, Ella Schoolfield and Mary Anderson.

She is survived by two sons, Allen (Colleen) Hairston of Plainsfield, N.J., and Barry J. Hairston Jr. of Beckley; two daughters, Relaina Hairston and Rhonda Hairston of Beckley; nine grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Other survivors include two brothers, John (Christine) Carter and Harrison (Cheryl) Carter, both of Elmira, N.Y.; three sisters, Willia (Clarence) Barnhart and Cheryl “Doll” Carter, both of Beckley, and Geraldine Parker of Elmira, N.Y.; a foster sister, Elizabeth “Libby” Reed of Elmira, N.Y.; a special special sister, Paulette English of Beckley; two very special cousins, Walter Johnson of Hoboken, N.J., and Rev. Walter Clay of Oak Hill, W.Va.; two special aunts, Audrey Clay Pugh of Akron, Ohio, and Edna Love of Elmira, N.Y.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services will be 12 noon Saturday, July 13, 2013, at New Hope Baptist Church, 305 Worley Road, Beckley. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Officiating are the Revs. Nathaniel Carey, Walter E. Clay and Walter Leach.

Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity.
