Thomas R. Bolen

Thomas R. Bolen, 66, of Odd, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2013.

Born January 18, 1947, he was the son of the late Raymond and Mary Grose Bolen.

Thomas loved and cared for his family. He was always there for his friends and family.  He attended Grace Bank Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Thomas is preceded in death by his four brothers, Jessie, David, Frankie and Kelly.

Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Simon Bolen and wife Andrea of Daniels, John T. Bolen of Sophia, James Raymond Bolen and wife Mary of Virginia, Thomas Monroe Bolen and wife Anita of North Carolina; sisters, Clarice Holloway of Stockton, Calif., Elizabeth M. Blankenship of Sophia; also his companion of 16 years, Ethel Devereux of Odd.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Friends may gather with the family Thursday from 1 - 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Irma Goins Bourgoin

OAK HILL — Irma Goins Bourgoin, 89, of Oak Hill, formerly of Beckley, passed to eternal rest at Bowers Hospice House Monday, July 8, 2013.

Buddy Jack Ciccantell

WATERFORD, Ohio — Buddy Jack Ciccantell passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at his home in Waterford.

Buddy was born on August 13, 1938 at Tamroy, W.Va., to Sidney Faro Ciccantell and Lucy (Ellis) Ciccantell.

He attended Oswald Grade School, graduated from Mt. Hope High School, and earned advanced degrees from Fairmont State College and West Virginia University. He was a Navy veteran. He worked for many years as a supervisor for the Washington County Board of Education.

He is survived by his wife Betty and a son, Paul Sidney Ciccantell, and his wife, Laura, of Kalamazoo, Mich. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Katie and Jack, a sister, Phyllis Kern, and six nieces, Gail, Rosie, Lisa, Paula, Terri and Joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Sylvia, and his brother Mark.

As Buddy requested, his body will be cremated and his ashes strewn on the West Virginia mountains of Dolly Sods where his spirit may wander freely. There will be no visitation or services.

Our sincere thanks and appreciation go to Dr. Kelli Cawley and the nurses and staff at Strecker Cancer Center for their care, love, and compassion for us.

ROCKPORT, Texas — Mable Carnes Dunn, 88, of Rockport, formerly of Marie, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2013.

John Clyde Evans

John Clyde Evans, 84, of Craigsville, died Saturday, July 6, 2013 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2013 in the White Funeral Home Chapel at Craigsville with Pastors Harold Jones and Jenny Russ. Interment will follow in the WV Memorial Gardens at Calvin.

Friends may call at the Craigsville funeral home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Lemuel ‘LR’ Lester Sr.

Lemuel Roosevelt “LR” Lester Sr., 50, of Beckley, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2013 at Raleigh General Hospital following a sudden illness.

Born December 9, 1962 at Welch, he was the son of the late Billy Lester and Betty Kirby Lester.

LR attended the Indian Creek Community Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding four wheelers and being with his family and friends.

Survivors include his son, Lemuel Roosevelt Lester Jr. of Beckley; daughter, Kara Lester and her fiancé Darrell Smith of Pineville; brother, Todd Lester and his wife, Drema of Welch Pineville Road; two sisters, Sandra Bryant of Claxton, Ga. and Dana Rose and her husband, Bill of Indian Creek; a grandson, Miken Smyth; former wife and mother of his daughter, Lana Lester of Pineville; former wife and mother of his son, Sherry Collins of Beckley.

A celebration of Lemuel’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 10, 2013 in the Calfee Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Hannibal Blankenship Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Lester Family Cemetery, Clear Fork.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Texie Bell Peyatt

DUCK — Texie Bell Peyatt, 73, of Duck,  died Monday, July 8, 2013 in the CAMC Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 2 p.m. in the Waters Funeral Chapel at Summersville, with Pastor George Peyatt officiating. Burial will follow in the Walker Memorial Park at Summersville.

Friends may call at the funeral chapel one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

 



Kathryne Anne Williams

Kathryne Anne Williams, 90, of Beckley, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 8, 2013.

Born February 25, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Ora and Ella Light.

Kathryne was a member of the Friends of the Library, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Beckley Woman’s Club, and Daughters of the American Revolution, WV Music Educators, Beckley Art Group, Beckley Historical Society and the Beta Sigma Phi. She attended the Mark Twain High School and was a graduate of WVU. Kathryne was employed as a teacher of music for 43 years in Raleigh County. She was also an active member of the Beckley Presbyterian Church.              

In addition to her parents, Kathryne was preceded in death by her husband, Francis “Duke” Williams; and brothers, Tommy and Jimmy Light.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Richard C. Williams and wife Cathy of Nebo, N.C., James D. Williams and Cindy Hungate of Beckley; grandchildren, James “Ricky” Williams and wife Trish of Beckley, Stacy Amber Potwin and husband, Steve of Beckley; great-grandchild, Degan Slade Williams of Beckley; nieces and nephews, Deborah, Linda, and Bonnie Light, all of Burlington, Vt., Lisa McClurg, Jay Williams, and Lee Williams, all of Atlanta, Ga.

Services will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Beckley Presbyterian Church with Rev. John C. McKinnen officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Friends may gather with the family Thursday from 10 to 12 at the church.

Family and friends of the church will serve as pallbearers.
