Emma June Mentz Godbey
CIRTSVILLE — Emma June Mentz Godbey, 75, of Cirtsville, passed from the Earth to her peaceful heavenly home on Saturday, July 6, 2013, after a long illness.
A lifelong resident of the Beckley area, Emma was born on April 26, 1938, to the late Homer and Emma Mentz of Sprague. Emma was of the Baptist faith. She loved her family and her great-grandchildren had a special place in her heart. She enjoyed reading her Bible and keeping in touch with her out-of-state family by telephone.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Willis “Bill” Godbey; two sisters, Beverly and Bonnie; three brothers, Jack, Joseph, and Roger.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Howard Godbey and wife Laurie of Beckley, Kathy Gibson and husband Willie of Coal City, Paul David and wife Theresa of Beckley, and Greg Godbey, with whom she made her home in Cirtsville; six grandchildren, Jeff, Becky, Tim, Karen, Margaret, and Chelsea; nine great-grandchildren who were the light of her life; also surviving include her sisters, Dorothy of Florida, Cheryl Kay of Maryland, Sharon of Richmond, Va., and Molly of Maryland; brother, Teddy of Richmond, Va.; and her sister-in-law, Polly of Florida.
Services to celebrate the life of Emma June will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Chapel in Beckley with Pastor Jimmy Bowyer officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Visitation will be held the same afternoon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral chapel on Wednesday.
