Willa Mae Wills Pegram

On Saturday, July 6, 2013, our beloved Willa Mae Wills Pegram, with her family at her side at the Bowers Hospice House, left this world to receive her final reward.

Born September 16, 1921, on Ellison Ridge, she was the daughter of the late Hettie and Howard Wills.

Willa was a homemaker and a mother. She loved to cook, bake, can, garden, grow flowers, embroidery quilts and pour out her love on her family. Her hands were never idle.

More than fifty years ago, she gave her life to Jesus. She walked and talked with Him moment by moment and spread His Gospel and let His light shine to everyone that she met. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, she gave a testimony for her Lord and Saviour moments before her death. She loved to bless others by giving of herself and gifts. She had a servant spirit. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, worked in the Ladies Auxiliary, making fried pies, doughnuts, hot dogs, and barbecues and also staying up half the night making crafts to raise money for the various needs of the church at Jonben Church of God until it closed. She was a member of the Rhodell Church of God at the time of her death.

She was a devoted and loving mother to two daughters, Janice Swisher of Parkersburg and Karen Rubin and her husband, Tom, of Beckley; three sons, Bobby of Fireco, Randy and his wife, Marilyn, of Coal City, and Donnie and his wife, Rebecca, of Beckley. She had 9 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Alma Keaton, Joyce Overbay, Nancy Sturgill; brothers, Roy Wills and Thomas Wills. She will be greatly missed by Pauline and Golden Wills, a very special cousin, Bonnie Holland, and many nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jodie Pegram; a daughter, JoAnn Pegram; a granddaughter, Serena Pegram. Also preceded in death by her sisters, Faye Roark, Edra Adkins, Opal Lydon, and brother, Jerry Wills; and her best friend, Reverend Beulah Pack.

Her very special pastor, Gary Eskins, will officiate the celebration of her life at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2013. Following the services her body will be laid to rest at the side of her husband and daughter at the Farley Hill Cemetery, Farley Hill.

Her beloved grandsons will be serving as pallbearers, Kevin Pegram, Joe Pegram, Jason Rubin, Zachary Pegram, Dennis Fisher, and a loving and faithful neighbor, R.P. Mitchem.

Friends may gather with the family Monday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home to share their memories and to pay their final respects.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to Dr. Gary Poling and the staff at Bowers Hospice House for the care and compassion shown to our beloved mother.
