Sol Halcomb Sr.

UNION — Sol Halcomb Sr., 82, of Union, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2013.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Monday, June 10, 2013 at the Groves Funeral Home Chapel in Union. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery at Keenan.  

Friends may call at the Groves Funeral Home in Union from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Groves Funeral Home in Union is in charge of arrangements.  


Lena Daniels Spade Harrah

Lena Daniels Spade Harrah, 80, of Stanaford, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at the Bowers Hospice House, in Beckley, surrounded by her loving family.

Born February 9, 1933 in Princewick, she was the daughter of the late Dawson and Allie Delp Daniels.

Lena was a beautician and had also worked in Hills Department Store. Lena was a member of the Living Waters Baptist Church. She was a devoted house wife and mother. She loved camping, working in her flower garden, and cooking family dinners.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Ann Spade, her sister and brother-in-law Ruth and Carlos Williams, three brothers Gene, Deb, and James Daniels, sister-in-law Betty Daniels, and a son-in-law Mark McDermott.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband William (Shorty) Harrah; two sons Jerry Spade and wife Kathy of Crab Orchard, and James David Spade of Stanaford; four daughters Janie Coleman and her husband Ronnie of Daniels, Carol Spade of Stanaford, Teresa Richmond and her husband Charles (Duke) of Daniels, and Johanna McDermott of Stanaford; her adopted son William (Buddy) Ray Harrah of Stanaford, her step-children, William Kermit Harrah Jr. and wife Jennifer of Beckley, Randall Harrah of Stanaford, Greg Harrah and his wife Beverly of North Carolina, and Yvette (Sissy) Bowling and husband Keith of Stanaford. She was a wonderful grandmother to all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a great influence in the lives of the three youngest grandchildren, Charles Thomas (Tommy) Richmond, Kara Bowling, and Donald Dunn, whom she raised from a baby. A special friend Teresa Taylor, and a host of nieces and nephews, and beloved friends.

Services will be held Sunday, June 9, 2013 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Home with the Pastor Mike Gunnoe officiating. Following the service she will be laid to rest in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Family and friends will serve as pall bearers.

Friends may gather with the family from 2 p.m. until service time, Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Lena’s memory to Hospice of Southern West Virginia.
