Charles W. Gravely

Charles W. Gravely, 73 of Cool Ridge, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 5, 2013.

Born December 28, 1939, he was a son of the late Franklin and Zenobia Peters Gravely.

Charles loved motorcycles and Volkswagens, loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; loved gardening, NASCAR and loved to dance with his wife.  Charles liked to joke and would always have a quick comeback. He enjoyed going to ballgames to watch his sons and grandchildren play ball. Charles graduated in 1957 from Shady Spring High School. He attended WV Tech College. Charles worked at Phillips Machinery where he was the lead electrician for several years before his retirement. He was a member of Calloway Heights Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

In addition to his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his wife, Janet Gravely,  brother, John Gravely, and sister-in-law Katie Gravely.

Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Chuck Gravely and wife Pam of Beckley, Rex Gravely and Larah of Cool Ridge, Gary Gravely and wife Christie of Roanoke, VA; grandchildren, Brandon Gravely and fiancée, Ellen, Billie Burdette and husband, Todd, Corey Gravely, Courtney Gravely, Garrison Gravely, Gabrielle Gravely; great-grandchildren, Gage Burdette, Charli Gravely, Caleb Plumley, Hayleigh Burdette, Kaylin Burdette and soon-to-be born great-grandson, Ryker Gravely; brothers, Everette Gravely, and wife Ann of Hudson, NC, Kenny Gravely of Charlotte, NC, Ivan Gravely and wife Carla of Charlotte, NC; sister, Vivian Gravely Owens and husband Dick of Raleigh, NC; sister-in-law, Becky Gravely of Taylor, SC.

Charles is loved and will be greatly missed by his family. The family would like to give special thanks to his caregivers, Tiffany Smith, and Rhonda Gunther.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with Pastor Jeff Canterbury officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may gather with the family Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
