HINTON — Mary Ellen Carr, 50, of 190 Pleasant St., Hinton, died Friday, May 2, 2014.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton, with Pastor David Culverson officiating. Burial will follow in Upland Cemetery, Upland. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of services Sunday at the funeral home.

William “Bill” Harper, 85, of Beckley, passed away Friday, May 2, 2014, at Cabell Huntington Hospital.

Troy E. Hodge

AMEAGLE — Troy E. Hodge, age 76, of Ameagle, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Born on May 21, 1937, in Reed, W.Va., he was the son of the late James and Almeada Hodge.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, and was a retired bus operator for the Raleigh County Schools with 24 years of service. Mr. Hodge was of the Pentecostal faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Lee Hodge, a brother, Billy Hodge, and by sisters Phyllis Conkle and Nancy Stover McClellan.

Mr. Hodge is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Emma J. Williams Hodge; two sons and their wives, Troy Hodge Jr. and his wife Kelly, and Greg Hodge and his wife Kay, all of Whitesville; a sister, Doris Kessinger, of Alderson; four grandsons, Joshua Hodge and his wife Bre-Anna, Luke Hodge and Jacob Hodge, and Garrett Maynor; four granddaughters,  McKenzie Hodge, Ema’Lea Maynor and her fiancé Travis McKinney, Ashley Hamilton and her husband Steve, and Felicia Bone.

Six great-grandchildren, Kami Hodge, Jordan Hodge, Kylon Hodge, Aiden McKinney, Cameron Hamilton, and Addison Hamilton. Several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends also survive. He also leaves behind his puppy peanut.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Pentecostal Freedom Church at Ameagle on Monday, May 5, 2014, at 1 p.m., with Rev. Gary Maynor and Pastor Jeff Shea officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity. American Legion Post 32 Honor Guard will conduct military graveside rites.

Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. until service time on Monday at the church.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be made to Mrs. Hodge at 7384 Clear Fork Road, Dorothy, WV 25060.

The family extends special thanks to the Raleigh Regional Cancer Center, his primary care physician Dr. Teresa Workman, and to the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley for the care given to Mr. Hodge.

Wilma Meadows Loveless

NEWARK, Del. — Wilma Meadows Loveless, age 82, of Newark, passed away April 26, 2014, at Season’s Hospice from complications following a stroke.

Wilma was born November 28, 1932, in Rock Camp, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Howard and Nellie Copeland Meadows.

She is predeceased by her brother, Carl Meadows, sister, Mary Jane Sanders, and son, David Loveless.

Wilma was a homemaker later employed as a jewelry sales assistant.

Surviving are her daughters Becky (Jack) King and Sherri (Dan) Roberts, along with three grandchildren Jaclyn (Steve) Szewczyk, Stephanie King, and Gabe Roberts, and one great-granddaughter, Dennen.

In addition she is survived by her sisters, Evelyn (Doug) Ferguson and Bonnie (Burke) Shires, along with several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Millcroft, Christiana ER, Neuro ICU and 6C, and Season’s Hospice.

Services will be held Tuesday, May 6th, at the Dropping Lick United Methodist Church, Union, W.Va., where family and friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Burial will follow at Ellison Cemetery, Rock Camp, W.Va.

HOMINY FALLS — Gary Goble Mace, 74, of Hominy Falls, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, May 5, at the Penile United Methodist Church in Hominy Falls, with the Rev. Troy George, the Rev. Youel Altizer and the Rev. Mike Whisman officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at the Hominy Falls Cemetery at Hominy Falls.

Odelta Lewis McGraw

Odelta Lewis McGraw, age 92, of Coal City, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at the Hill Top Center at Hill Top.

Born on September 6, 1921, at Lillybrook, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Wallace Bowling and Lenna Bell Archer Bowling.

Mrs. McGraw was a homemaker, and a member of the Grace Primitive Baptist Church at Shady Spring. She had made her home at Coal City most of her life. Mrs. McGraw enjoyed working outdoors and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert L. Lewis and John McGraw, by a son, Robert L. Lewis II, by a grandson, Robert L. Lewis III, by a granddaughter, Bridgett M. Lewis, and by five brothers and one sister.

Mrs. McGraw was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her sons, Benjamin L. Lewis and his wife Cathy, Thomas H. Lewis and his wife Sharon, all of Coal City. A daughter-in-law, Helen Lewis of Coal City. Grandchildren, Richard and Michelle Lewis of Coal City, B.J. Lewis of St. Albans, Valerie Tomlin of Coal City, Christina Hall of Troutville, Va., Melissa Surber of Hinton and Robyn Spencer of Beckley; 10 great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Sunday, May 4, 2014, at 1 p.m., with Elder Keith Mills officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity.

Friends may visit with the family from noon until service time on Sunday.

Barbara Gene Kincaid Oxley

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Barbara Gene Kincaid Oxley, 92, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Oak Hill, died on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Porter Hills Village in Grand Rapids.

Born May 6, 1921, at Plymouth, Mich., she was the daughter of the late Virgil Elmer and Viola Bonnie DeLung Kincaid.

Mrs. Oxley was a retired auditor for G.C. Murphy Co. with over 30 years service and was a homemaker. She was of the Methodist faith.

Gene had two great loves, her family and her pets (not necessarily in that order). She was known as “Granny” by all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be missed in every way.

Her husband, Mike Chapler; son, William D. Oxley Jr.; sisters, Velma “Dutch” Holland, Margueritte Hill and Aleriene Burr, and brothers, David V. Kincaid and Thomas O. Kincaid, preceded her in death.

Gene is survived by her loving and devoted family which includes two sons, Thomas M. Oxley and wife, Bev, of Oak Hill and David M. Oxley and wife, Lisa, of Powhatan, Va.; two daughters, Bonnie C. Frommelt of Grand Rapids, and Teresa E. Simmons and husband, James, of Charlotte, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Carol Oxley of Havelock, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill, with Rev. Harry Fuller officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Friends may call from 12 noon until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Clara Ola ‘Audie’ Bennett-Colbird-Pugh

ASHEBORO, N.C. — Audie Colbird Pugh, 78, formerly of Welch, died Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Wake Forest Baptist University Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., following an unexpected medical complication.

She was born September 24, 1935, in Welch, the daughter of the late Ernest Robinson Bennett and Willie Jean Bennett. Audie Bennett Colbird Pugh was a resident of Asheboro, and a former resident of Lashmeet and Bud Mountain.

She was a retired homemaker and nurse and a loyal and dedicated member of the Living Church of God in Bluefield.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Timothy Colbird; two daughters, Rhonda Smith-Edwards and Jane Colbird-Simerly; and one grandson, Chuck Colbird.

Survivors include her devoted husband, Ivan Duane Pugh of Asheboro; one son, John Wayne Bennett and wife Amy of Kernersville, N.C.; one daughter, Jennifer Colbird Davenport and husband Larry of Montgomery, W.Va.; one stepson, Eric Travis Pugh and wife Ashley of Princeton; 14 grandchildren, Makayla and Kallie Bennett, Angela Ward and husband Ron, David Smith and wife Jana, Chris Smith and wife Jessica, Toni Gilliam and husband Shannon, Dustin Edwards and wife Becky, Dean Colbird and wife Darlene, John Colbird, Eric Simerly, Tonya Simerly, Cara Simerly and husband Derick, Emersyn Grace Pugh, and Eli Travis Pugh; eighteen great-grandchildren, Braydin, Ava, Jada, Laila, Makayla, Paul, Zach, Nicholas, Andrew, Emeilia, Khyler, Zachery, Alexis, Samule, Jaylen, Nevaeh, Brianna, and Kaylee; and one brother, Charles Bennett of Bucyrus, Ohio.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2014, at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton, with Pastor Paul Shumway officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the service hour on Sunday.

CRAIGSVILLE — Deloria Valley Trescott, 92, of Craigsville, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014.

Robert Denvil Wriston Sr.

Robert Denvil Wriston Sr., age 70, of Maple Fork, passed away at the Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital in Beckley on Tuesday, April 29, 2014.

Born on September 21, 1943, in Maple Fork, he was the son of the late Wilbur Wriston and Olive Wriston.

Mr. Wriston was a retired electrician with 40 years of service, last working for IBEW. He was of the Baptist faith, and had lived at Maple Fork all of his life. His interests were gardening, cooking, and playing with his dogs.

Mr. Wriston was preceded in death by his wife, Patty Jo Wriston, and by his son, Robert Denvil Wriston Jr.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his children, Tina Wykle and her husband Danny of Surveyor, Dawn Wingrove and her husband David of Posey-Saxon, Darren Wriston and his wife Deana of Eccles, and Joey Wriston and his wife Sandy of Maple Fork. Sisters, Wilma Reed of Prosperity, Edna Quesenberry of Beckley, and Garnet Mooney of Beckley; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his companion, Virginia Terry of Scarbro; and two adopted children, Billie Anderson and Sheena Ward, also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Daniel Legg officiating. Burial will follow at the Wriston Cemetery at Maple Fork.

Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. until service time on Saturday.
