Larry Douglas James
OAK HILL — Larry Douglas James of Oak Hill entered his eternal home, and was reunited with his beloved wife, Debbie, on April 18, 2014, at his home following a long illness.
Born on December 21, 1952, in Oak Hill, he was the son of the late Paskell Davis James and Icie Missouri Drennen James.
Larry was a 1971 graduate of Collins High School, and he was a member of Mountain View Church of God at Hilltop where he served as a member of the choir and a past member of the board of directors for Mountain View Christian School. Before his illness, Larry had been caregiver for his late wife and worked as a vehicle salesman. Most people in Fayette County would know his friendly face from Deligne’s Ford, previously in Ansted, where he worked for many years.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Deborah “Debbie” Lynn Atha James, two children, Jason Douglas and Charlean Renee, father-in-law, Charley Hampton Atha, brother, Kenneth James, sister, Evelyn Nugen and her husband Bert Nugen, and brother-in-law Charley “CH” Atha, Jr.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter Tiffany James of Simpsonville, SC; “adopted” daughter Brandi Turner and her son Corban, brother Orville James and wife Anna, sister-in-law Deborah Atha, sister-in-law Judith James Price, mother-in-law Sclean Atha, nieces Kristi Atha-Rader, Joyce Fawcett, Karen Hildebrand, Diane Hogan, and Sandra Price; nephews Danny James, Chip Atha, Allen Nugen, Shawn James, Kenny James, and Chris James; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and many close friends.
Larry will be remembered by his family and friends for his playfulness and love for friends and family. If you were his friend, you knew that he would always be there for you. Larry loved God, his friends and family, music, his guitars, cars, and his guns. He liked nothing more than to sing at church, and his deep voice singing “The Lighthouse” with hands raised and tears in his eyes, receiving a blessing and blessing others, will not be forgotten. He was a big teddy bear with a huge heart, and his hugs will be missed by all who knew him.
Services for Larry James will be held at Mountain View Church of God, 2 Mountain View Road, Hilltop, at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23, with Rev. Rudell Bloomfield officiating. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Pea Ridge Road, Oak Hill.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, at the church. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory can be made to the Mountain View Christian School scholarship fund in his memory.
Condolences may be sent to www.highlawnfuneralhomechapel.com.
