Orpha Opal Blevins

Orpha Opal Blevins, age 76, of Beckley, passed away at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley on Tuesday, April 15, 2014.

Born on February 6, 1938, at Ellison Ridge, she was the daughter of the late John Ferguson and Vira Lilly Ferguson.

Mrs. Blevins was a former employee of the Raleigh County Armory, the Betsy Ross Bakery and the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mines. She was a member of the Advent Christian Church, and had her home in Beckley most of her adult life. Her interests were gardening, canning, and reading.

Mrs. Blevins was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Freddie” Blevins, a son Gary Lee Blevins, and by all 12 of her brothers and sisters.

Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her children, Rema McGuire and her husband Gary, of Glade Springs in Daniels, Delores “Dee Dee” Fondale and her husband David, of Crab Orchard, Thomas Blevins and his wife Dawna, of Daytona Beach, Fla., Lisa Furrow, of Shady Spring; grandchildren, Chad McGuire and Brittany Smith, of Beckley, and Sean McGuire and his wife Chelsey, of Durham, N.C., Kelly Jo Fondale, of Morgantown, Barbara Lacono and her husband Jake, of Cleveland, Ga., Stephen Blevins, of Cleveland, Ga., Sarah Blevins, of Cleveland, Ga., Joseph Trent Furrow and his wife Carma, of Crow,  and Chelsie LaDawn Duke, of Cleveland, Tenn.; eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Friday, April 18, 2014, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Sean McGuire, her grandson, officiating. Burial will follow at the Birchfield Cemetery at Ellison Ridge.  

Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Pallbearers will be family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV in memory of Mrs. Blevins.
