Sally Ann Surber

Sally Ann Surber, 85, went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Sunday morning, June 9, 2013, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke Va., following an extended illness.

Mrs. Surber was born on July 7, 1927, in Caldwell W.Va., a daughter of the late William Shelby Freeman and Vera Bennett Freeman.

A devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Sally was a long time member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church. Sally will always be remembered  as a friend to all, a helping hand in time of need, a lover of music and dance and an avid sports fan.

Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Shelby J. Wilson and her husband, Mike Wilson of Chattanooga, Tenn.; Susie Surber of White Sulphur Springs; a son, John Michael Surber of Belleview, Fla., six grandchildren, Carrie Wilson Brown and her husband, Sam, Dalton, Ga.; Jennifer Wilson Ellis and her husband Heath, Dalton, Ga., Scott Wilson, Chattanooga, Tenn., Brandon, Matthew and Tyler Surber, all of Belleview Fla.; two great granddaughters, Sophia Ellis and Jayden Surber., several nieces, nephews, and a special family friend, Tammy Belt.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John H. Surber in 2008.

A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday, June, 12, 2013, at the Greenbrier Memorial Gardens in Lewisburg, W.Va., for all family and friends beginning at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Kenneth Peters officiating.

There will be no visitation.

Shanklin Funeral Home, White Sulphur Springs is serving the family.

Quincy Darrell ‘Bubbles’ Thompson

Quincy Darrell “Bubbles” Thompson, 82 of Coal City, formerly of Glade Springs and Ocala, Fla., died Sunday, June 9, 2013.

In keeping with Darrell’s final wishes, he was cremated, 

Memorial services to celebrate the life of Darrell will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Chapel in Beckley. There will be no prior visitation. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Thompson Memorial Scholarship at Independence High School, 800 Independence Road, Coal City WV 25823.
