On Wednesday, June 5th, 2013, our most cherished Myrtle Jourdan, of Arnett, passed away at the Raleigh General Hospital following a short illness. She was in her 79th year.

The third of five children, Myrtle Combs was born on Nov. 20th, 1933, at Arnett. Her parents were the late Bert and Laura Cook Combs. A sister, Delcie Wills and brothers, Dexter Combs and Kenneth Nelson have preceded her in death.

Her sister, Marilyn “Sally” Parsons and her husband, Darrell of Rock Creek survive.

Myrtle was a lifelong resident of Arnett. She was a well known and well thought of postal carrier in the Arnett-Glen Daniel area for 31 years. In her leisure time she enjoyed going to yard sales. The great joy of her life in her later years was being a grandmother and great grandmother.

While working at the Glass House on the WV Turnpike, Myrtle met a truck driver, Ottis Jourdan from Mississippi. They would marry and be blessed with two children, Michael Eugene who is married to Diana and Debra Carol. Sadly, Debra died at the age of three. Ottis died in 1997. Myrtle was the devoted “MeMaw” to Eric Jourdan and his wife, Reba and Amanda Mauller and her husband, Jon. She was the proud great grandmother of Kyleigh Jourdan and Joseph Mauller. A sister-in-law, Mary Ann Murrow survives, as well as many friends and neighbors.
