Vincent ‘Vince’ Dixon

PEORIA, Ill. — Vincent “Vince” Dixon, 91, of Peoria, formerly of Oak Hill, passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at East Peoria Rosewood Care Center.

Born Nov. 8, 1920, at Ansonia, Connecticut, son of the late Joseph Dixon and Ellen (Fitzgerald) Dixon. Vince was the last surviving member of his family.

Vince married the love of his life Myrtle Hiller in 1940.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and was a World War II Veteran.

For 50 years, Vince constructed homes from the ground up in many states. His friends and colleagues would testify that he was the best concrete finisher.

In addition to his parents, Vince was preceded in death by his wife Myrtle (Hiller) Dixon, his brother Joseph Dixon and his sister Elenore Dixon.

Those left to cherish his memory include three sons Joseph Dixon and his wife Esther of Oak Harbor, Washington, Vincent Dixon Jr. and his wife Sandy of Houston, TX, Richard Dixon of Charleston, W.Va.; two daughters Diane King and her husband Walt of Centerville, Iowa, and Ellen Steffan and her husband Gregg of Toulon, Illinois; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

His remains rest at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, 1435 East Main Street, Oak Hill,  where the funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday with Father Paul Yeunger from Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Oak Hill officiating. Entombment will follow in Mausoleum Three at Blue Ridge Memorial Park, Beckley, with military rites conducted by the Oak Hill V.F.W. Post 3110.

ALDERSON — Barbara Nicole Johnson, 25, of Alderson, formerly of Blountsville, Ala., passed away Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012.

James E. ‘Buster’ McClung

MOUNT NEBO — James E. “Buster” McClung, 86, of Mount Nebo, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2012.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, in the Waters Funeral Chapel at Summersville, with the Rev. Clarence Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Gilgal Cemetery at Mount Nebo. Friends may call one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral chapel.
