Margaret Lucille Ballis
DEERFIELD, Ohio — Margaret Lucille Ballis, 81, of Deerfield, Ohio, died at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, November 3, 2012, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio.
Born October 26, 1931, at Sandstone, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Cordelia Mae Bragg Garrett.
Ms. Ballis was a homemaker and was a member of Tri County Church of God in Salem, Ohio. She loved spending time with her family, fishing, bowling and square dancing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd J. Ballis, on April 13, 2009. Also preceded by a brother, Edward Garrett, and a sister, Joanne Bragg.
Survivors include two sons, Joe Ballis and wife Veronica of Akron, Ohio, and Tim Ballis and wife Nancy of Wadsworth, Ohio; three daughters, Brenda Bodkins and husband Jerry of Deerfield, Ohio, Shelly Richmond and husband Jesse of Hinton and Kathy Ray and husband Dwayne of Akron, Ohio; two sisters, Helen Colleen Smith of Rainelle, W.Va., and Elizabeth Mae Gwinn of Hinton; grandchildren, Jerry Michael Bodkins and wife Chris, Athena Tausch and husband Jeremy, Mariah Andrews and husband Scott, Jessica Brown and husband Rex, Patricia Richmond, Adam Richmond, Jonathan Ray and wife Tarah, Kelly Wilson and husband Mike, Zachary Ballis and Danielle Ballis; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Drew, Anne, Cordelia, Sally, Ethan, Derek, April, Jesse, Trinity, Kendra and Alysah.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, November 9, 2012, at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton, with Pastor Dwayne Ray officiating. Burial will follow in the Bragg Cemetery on New River Road near Hinton.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. A memorial service will also be held at 5 p.m. Friday, November 16, 2012, at Lakeview Lighthouse Church, 1065 Kubler St., Akron, Ohio.

HILLTOP — Orville Barker Jr., 66, of Hilltop, passed away Monday, November 5, 2012, at home.
Born on June 6, 1946, at Terry, he was the son of the late Orville and Myrtle Virginia Jeffery.
Mr. Barker was a retired self-employed carpenter.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his four brothers, Billie E. Barker, Lester L. Barker, David W. Barker, and Kenneth Ray Barker.
Survivors include his sister, Betty L. Adkins and husband, Lee, of Garrettsville, Ohio, and his brother, Herbert Barker and wife, Nancy, of Racine, Ohio.

Loma Combs, 83, of Cool Ridge, died Sunday, November 4, 2012, surrounded by her family at her home.
Born May 11, 1929, at Egeria, she was the daughter of the late Nathan Mills and Versie Lusk Mills.
She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed gardening, canning and quilting. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Frankie Dale Combs Sr.; one sister, Lana Reed; two brothers, Dasil Mills and Basil Mills; and two grandchildren, Frankie Dale Combs Jr. and Felicia Davidson Marcum.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Francis “Penny” Combs; three daughters, Delila Zeboskey and husband Joe of Beckley, Patricia Shrewsbury of Cool Ridge and Evelynne Phillips and fiancé Darren Moore of Cool Ridge; one son, Shawn Combs of St. Marys; one sister, Oma Akers of Matoaka; one brother, Ralph Robertson and wife Genie of Egeria; seven grandchildren, Deidra Pennington, Reginia Thomas and husband Eric, all of Beckley, Prema Tariq and husband Danish and Derek Shrewsbury and wife Kayla, all of California, Heather Phillips and fiancé Joe Richardson of Damascus, Va., Zachary and Cindy Phillips and Brandon and Amanda Phillips, all of Mullens, Stephanie Combs and April Combs of Florida; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson and several nieces and nephews including Archie Reed.

Vincent ‘Vince’ Dixon
PEORIA, Ill. — Vincent “Vince” Dixon, 91, of Peoria, formerly of Oak Hill, passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at East Peoria Rosewood Care Center.
Born Nov. 8, 1920, at Ansonia, Connecticut, son of the late Joseph Dixon and Ellen (Fitzgerald) Dixon. Vince was the last surviving member of his family.
Vince married the love of his life Myrtle Hiller in 1940.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and was a World War II Veteran.
For 50 years, Vince constructed homes from the ground up in many states. His friends and colleagues would testify that he was the best concrete finisher.
In addition to his parents, Vince was preceded in death by his wife Myrtle (Hiller) Dixon, his brother Joseph Dixon and his sister Elenore Dixon.
Those left to cherish his memory include three sons Joseph Dixon and his wife Esther of Oak Harbor, Washington, Vincent Dixon Jr. and his wife Sandy of Houston, TX, Richard Dixon of Charleston, W.Va.; two daughters Diane King and her husband Walt of Centerville, Iowa, and Ellen Steffan and her husband Gregg of Toulon, Illinois; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
His remains rest at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, 1435 East Main Street, Oak Hill, where the funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday with Father Paul Yeunger from Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Oak Hill officiating. Entombment will follow in Mausoleum Three at Blue Ridge Memorial Park, Beckley, with military rites conducted by the Oak Hill V.F.W. Post 3110.

MOUNT NEBO — James E. “Buster” McClung, 86, of Mount Nebo, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2012.

On Saturday, Nov. 3rd, 2012, our most cherished Linda Meadows of Prosperity passed away at the Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness. She was 64 years of age.
One of eight children, Linda Jean Collier was born on April 27th, 1948, at Oak Hill. Her parents were the late Carlos and Ardith Lafferty Collier. A brother, Rick Collier, a Vietnam Veteran, has preceded her in death.
A faithful member of the United Methodist Temple, Linda loved her church and sang in the church choir, where she was active until her health began to fail. Linda and two of her friends, Patty Clark and Sharon Johnson, founded the “New Life Singers” and for seven plus years, they sang at over 100 revivals, reunions, and homecomings at various churches.
Employed as a financial secretary for the Raleigh County Board of Education, Linda had 32 years of service with the board.
Linda had a passion for painting. She painted in the media of oil and acrylics and created over 75 canvases.
At the end of the day when we her family recall Linda, we will remember a devoted wife and mother who was very wise.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, Bob; she was the loving mother of Bobby; the dear sister of June Wood and her husband, Steve, Sue Rose, Coral Wood and her husband, George, Carolyn Megimose, Jane Duran and her husband, Paul, Naomi Humphrey and her husband, Paige; and her ever faithful border collie, Tess.
On Thursday, Nov. 8th, at 1 p.m. we will remember the life of Linda Meadows with a “Service of Remembrance” at the United Methodist Temple. Pastors Randy Adkins and Dan Johnson will be officiating. Linda will be laid to rest in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Nov. 7th, at the Melton Mortuary from 6 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Della Marie Sparks
OCEANA — Della Marie Sparks, 93, went to live with her Heavenly Father Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at Bowers Hospice House, surrounded by her family following a short illness.
Born December 12, 1918, in Kimball, she was the daughter of the late John and Rosa Ross.
Mrs. Sparks was a cook for Wyoming County Schools at Pineville High School and Glen Fork Grade School for 20 years. She enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles and picture puzzles. She was a member of Glen Fork Baptist Temple and also attended Oceana First Baptist Church. She loved her best friend and pet, Lila. Mrs. Sparks will be dearly missed by her family.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Ray Sparks; a son, Austin “Buddy” Sparks; a daughter, Rita Quesenberry.
Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Frances Roney of Laurel, Mich., and Audrey Samples and husband, Donald, of Oceana; six grandchildren, Scott Conley Quesenberry, Shannon Quesenberry Hobbs, Krista Samples Coleman, Lydia Samples Scott, Austin Roney and Ben Roney; eight great-grandchildren, Austin Quesenberry, William Quesenberry, Kellen Hobbs, Jeff Hobbs, Layla Scott, Lilly Scott, Sarah Frances Roney and Vincent Roney; a special friend and helper, Denice Lester; and a host of family and friends.

Robert L. Thompson, 62, of Colcord, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, November 3, 2012, at CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston, W.Va.
He was born December 29, 1949, at Ameagle, W.Va., a son of the late Horace and Pernie Painter Thompson.
He was a member of the Dorothy Church of God, Dorothy, W.Va. He was a UMWA retired coal miner in District #17 with over 30 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Ronnie, Bill, Gary David; sister, Juanita, and Baby Thompson, and a nephew, Jimmy Lewis Williams.
