Thomas Bryant

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:  Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the  Lord, the righteous judge shall give me that day:

On June 12th, 2014 at home with his family members at his bedside, Thomas E. Bryant, age 79, of Daniels, received his crown of righteousness.

Thomas was born in Shady Spring on December 23, 1934, to the late Cecil E. and Melva Bair Bryant. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Johnny Mack and Shelvie Bryant.

Thomas also known as “Tommy” and  “Bubby” loved to work. He began driving a coal truck when he was 16 years old and many years later had a small fleet of coal trucks known as Bryant Trucking. He worked for Hawley Fuel and White Ridge Coal Companies. He was also Co-owner of B&C Construction. After semi-retiring he loved working with his dozer, loader, and back-hoe and has completed numerous landscaping projects for family and friends in the Shady Spring area. Thomas was also an avid Nascar fan.

Mr. Bryant was a member of the Grace Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon and sang in the choir until  his illness denied him of the pleasure of participating in church activities.

Thomas is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Shirley Shrader Bryant; one daughter Teresa Croy and husband Bill of Daniels; one grandson Jason Croy and wife Tonya of Shady Spring; one precious great grandchild that was the light of his life, Chloe Nicole Croy; one sister Wilda Ratcliffe and husband John of South Carolina; one brother James and wife Sue of Shady Spring, and his special pet, Snuggles.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 16, 2014 at 1 p.m.  at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring  Chapel with Pastor Ernest Calfee Jr., whose ministry Thomas was saved and baptized under, officiating. Burial will follow at the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Beckley, where friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at the Shady Spring Chapel.
