Dorlis O. Grose Allen

Dorlis O. Grose Allen, 83, of Sophia, faithful and loving wife, mommy and granny went to rest peacefully with our Lord, on June 11, 2014, after fighting a long courageous battle.

She was a 1949 graduate of Sophia High School; married and lived her entire life in Sophia; loved the library and crafting with her strings. She was famous for her granny dordy noodles and strawberry shortcake. Next to the Lord, her family was her greatest love and what she lived for.

Preceding her in death was an infant daughter, Regina Jo Allen; and infant grandson, Delos Scott Allen; brother, Carl (Margaret) Grose of Jacksboro, Tenn.; sister, Juanita (LeRoy) Greer of Sophia, W.Va.; sister, Pauline Mullens of Jacksonville, Fla. and several siblings who died in childhood.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Roy “Sonny” Allen; daughter, Barbara (James) Graham of Crab Orchard; son, Roy (Cheryl) Allen of Soak Creek; daughter, Connie (Terry) Dillon of Arnett; grandchildren include Malisa “HoneyBee” Schors and husband, Matt, Christy “Rainbow girl” Mitchel and husband, Jimmy, Jonathan “John Boy” Allen and wife Tisha, Jason “Jake” Allen and wife Glenna, Jessica ‘”Little Jess” Tolliver and husband Jim, Andrew Dillon and fiancé, Brooklyn Pettry; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, and her remarkable sister-in-law, and the family’s constant rock, Delphine “Dot” Graham.

The family wishes to acknowledge the caring hands and hearts of Hospice and her wonderful Dr. Ramon Jereza without whom we could not have eased her peacefully into her next journey.

Services will be held at noon on Friday, June 13, 2014, at Williams Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Sophia with Pastor Charles Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow at Hot Coal Cemetery.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers with Ronnie Greer, faithful nephew, serving as honorary pallbearer.

Friends may gather with the family Friday from 11 a.m. to noon at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to Bowers Hospice House.

Arrangements by Williams Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 101 1st Street, Sophia.
