Shirley E. Walker Taylor

RAINELLE — Shirley E. Walker Taylor, 78, of Rainelle, passed away Monday, May 12, 2014.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 16, at Smathers Funeral Chapel Inc. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at the funeral home.

Betty Thomas

On Thursday, May 8th, 2014, surrounded by her family, our most beloved Betty Jane Burton Thomas passed away at her home in Shady Spring following a long illness. She was in her 85th year.

Betty was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and grandson, Eric.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Bobby and wife Sue, grandson, Bobby II, great-grandson, Alex, and several nephews and nieces survive as well.

In keeping with her explicit wishes Betty’s services were private. The Rev. John Hart officiated.

Edward ‘Jack’ Webb

FAYETTEVILLE — Edward Jackson “Jack” Webb, 91, of Fayetteville, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at the Beckley VA Medical Center following an extended illness.

Born on March 9, 1923, at Eskdale, he was the son of the late Hazen Lathrope Webb and Florian Mae Scherer Webb.

Jack served in the U.S. Navy as a gunner mate during World War II. He was a retired boiler operator and supervisor for Union Carbide (Alloy Plant) at Alloy, W.Va.

Jack was an avid guitar player and enjoyed playing music with friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma J. Webb; sons, Danny E. Webb and Edward Jackson Webb Jr.; three sisters, Barbara Ann Naylor, Teresa Elizabeth Fowler, and Mary Alice Walker; and three brothers, Comer Oberton Webb, John “Doug” Webb, and Hazen “Ben” Webb.

Left to cherish many memories are his grandchildren: Crystal and her husband Wilbert Lively III of Edmond and Luis Edward Webb of Durham, N.C.; five great-grandchildren: Brandon Lively, Ada Jae Lively, Claire Lively, Madelyne Webb, and Andrew Webb; and a host of other family and friends.

To honor his wishes, Jack will be cremated with no services scheduled.

Memorials may be made in his memory to Bluegrass Preservation Society, 94 Beech Street, Gassaway, WV 26624.
