Arthur ‘Buddy’ Marcum Jr.
It is with great sadness that we the family of Arthur Marcum, Jr. announce his passing.
Our “Buddy,” as he was affectionately known, left for “Biker’s Heaven” on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at his home in MacArthur, surrounded by family and friends that loved him so.
Born on Jan. 2, 1951, Buddy was six days shy of his 63rd birthday. Buddy had battled cancer privately for a very short time. He was seen out and about just days before his short illness.
He was the son of the late Arthur and Esther Zippith Marcum Sr. In addition to his parents, Buddy was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene and a sister, Kimberley Tolliver.
A retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA, Buddy was an AVID motorcycle rider. A member of the Beckley Moose Lodge 1606, he was also a member of the “Inner Circle” at Jimmies’ Place (where all GOOD PEOPLE are a member of the Inner Circle.) He will be sadly missed by all his friends. In these later years of his life, Buddy has immensely enjoyed taking his grandson, Lyric, fishing and loving on his granddaughter, Ezra.
In addition to his beloved grandchildren, Buddy leaves to cherish his memory, his only child and mother of his grandchildren, Tiffany Bauguess and her husband, Michael; he was the fond brother of Dinah Lilly, Anita Canaday, Delessa Lytle, Lyle Marcum, and Joyceann Davidson. His good friend, Teresa Brown, survives as well. It is all just too soon, but we his family must let him go. God speed until we are all together again.
On Saturday, Jan. 4, at 1 p.m. we shall remember Buddy with a “Service of Remembrance” at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the service hour at 1 p.m.
Buddy’s close friends will be officiating at his service. He will be laid to rest in the Sunset Memorial Park. The honor of carrying Buddy has been given to Woody Pegram, Bill Shumate, Mike Black, Dick Carpender, Todd “Turtle” Kelly, Tim “Chewy” Chewning, David Heaton, and Al Sines. Christian Burks is an honorary pallbearer.
Following Buddy’s burial, there will be a repast at Jimmies’ Place, 727 South Kanawha Street, Beckley. A time of celebration, food and remembering will be had by all. Dress casually for the funeral. If the weather is good, ride your motorcycle!
And now we must say goodbye. To Buddy, short on years, long on life; a free spirit, who lived to love the simple things, trails, streams and sunsets. May you rest in peace.
Condolences may be sent to the family’s guestbook at www.meltonmortuary.com.
