David Earl Acord

David Earl Acord, 80, of Jesse, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013 in Bowers Hospice House, Beckley.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013 at New Life Church, Jesse, with Rev. Ernest Francis and Bro. Gene Reid officiating.

Friends may gather with the family Thursday, December 26, 2013 from 6 p.m. until service time and until 9 p.m. following the service at the church.

He will be laid to rest at noon on Friday, Dec. 27, 2013 in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

James E. ‘Wootie’ Beasley

James E. “Wootie” Beasley, 66, of Hinton, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013.

Arrangements are pending at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors in Hinton.

Joseph C. Fritz

Joseph C. Fritz, 77, of Pineville, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 at his daughter’s residence at Mill Creek.

Services were held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2013 in the Calfee Funeral Service Chapel.

Calfee Funeral and Cremation Service of Pineville served the family.

Hazel Rose Lambert

Hazel Rose Lambert, 92, of Davy, passed away Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, following a long illness.

Born May 13, 1921 in McDowell County, she was the daughter of the late Jeston Rose and Viola Walker Rose.

Mrs. Lambert attended the Indian Creek Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading, traveling, working in her flowers and her dog Goldie Mae.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Lambert; a daughter, Phyllis Lambert; three sisters, Eunice Thomas, Janice Wingler and Iris Green and a brother, Norman Rose.

Survivors include three daughters, Shirley Belcher and her husband Roger, of Fanrock, Diana Young and her husband Jerry, of Pineville, Reba Morgan and her husband Mark, of Fanrock; two brothers, Calvin Rose, of Concord, N.C. and Ray Rose, of Princeton; two sisters, Garnett Gullett, of Welch, and Wilma Pack, of Woodbridge, Va.; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Hazel’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 27, 2013 in the Calfee Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Gary Walker and Rev. Teddy Vance officiating.

Burial will follow in the Short Cemetery at Briar Creek.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013 at the funeral home.

Juanita Alice Meador

Juanita Alice Meador, 84, of Daniels, passed away Monday, Dec. 23, 2013 in Beckley following a long illness.

Following her wishes, Juanita will be cremated with a service scheduled at a later date.

Cecil Murdock                                                                                          Cecil Murdock, 83, of White Oak, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at Bowers Hospice House.

Irene Parker

Helen Irene Graham Parker, 70, of Mullens, passed away at home with her husband by her side on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Born November 27, 1943, at Baileysville, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Kathleen (Bradley) Graham.

Irene was a sweet, loving, and devoted Wife, Mother, “Nanny”, and Friend. She was extremely proud of her grandchildren and loved them dearly. She was deeply of the Christian faith and was a hairdresser for 45 years and operated her own salon (Irene's Beauty Salon) in Mullens, WV. She was a graduate of The Little French Beauty Academy, a supporter for sick and hospitalized terminally ill children, supporting many charities throughout the years, and was also an avid animal lover, caring for, and feeding any animal in need.

Irene enjoyed her love of flowers, photography, and writing children’s stories. During her husband's two terms as Wyoming County Sherriff, Helen proudly supported him during his campaigns and loved the town of Mullens and people in Wyoming County.

In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by her in-laws, Cloyd and Kathleen Parker; and one brother, Dennis Graham.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 43 years, C.S. “Sherill” Parker of Mullens; her son, Scott Parker and his wife, Kim and their three children, Nicholas, Kaitlyn, and Chandler, of Beckley; her son, Patrick R. Parker and his son, Parker Jace, of Charleston; a very special friend that she looked at as a son, Carl Sears; and the family is eternally grateful to her caregiver and friend, Tina Lawson of Corinne; hospice nurse, Teresa Lopez; and her family physician and friend, Dr. Dominador Lao.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2013 at the Mullens Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Lewis Arnold officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013 at the church and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.

Wyoming County Sherriff's Department Deputies will serve as pallbearers along with honorary pallbearers, Scott Parker, Patrick R. Parker, Nicholas Parker, and Carl Sears.

Dr. Darrell Prater, 64, of Oak Hill, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013.

High Lawn Funeral Chapel, Oak Hill, is in charge of arrangements.

Tressie Imogene Ratliff

Tressie Imogene Ratliff, 79, of Hilldale, went to be home with the Lord, Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at CAMC Memorial Division following a short illness.

Born Dec. 26, 1933, at Talcott, she was a daughter of the late James William and Sadie Elizabeth Meadows Gill.

She was an active member of the Pence Springs Community Church. She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Summers County. Imogene was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Elmo Gill; two grandsons, Christopher “Del Ray” McGuire and James Eli Gill; four brothers, Walter Gill, Cecil Gill, Kenneth Gill, and Willard Gill; and two sisters, Madeline Adkins and Nellie Catherine Gill.

Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Deborah Gill and Larry Tincher, of Oak Hill, and Tressie Bennett, of Hilldale; one son, Evert Eli Gill and Sandy Anderson, of Hilldale; three brothers, Irvin L. Gill and Iveta, of Ballard, James William Gill, of Monroe County, and Russell Alvin Gill, of Marie; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Roger Persinger officiating.

Burial will follow in the Gill Cemetery at Hilldale.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral parlors.

Jeff Bennett, Garland Adkins, Glendon “Bubby” Cales, Marshall Meadows, Derick Triplett, Paul Weikle, and Junior Gill will serve as pallbearers.
