Wayne Burgess

NEW YORK — Wayne Burgess, 66, formerly of Artie, son of the late Clyde and Mary Williams Burgess, following a battle with cancer, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, with family in his New York home. Leaving a sister, Venice, and a brother, Edwin.

Elmer Haga

Elmer Haga, 66, of Beckley, passed away Friday, Nov. 8, 2013.

Arrangements are pending completion at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, 1901 S. Kanawha St., Beckley.

Phyllis Keller Hammack

SISSONVILLE — Phyllis Keller Hammack, 80, of Sissonville, passed away Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013. 

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, at Long and Fisher Funeral Home in Sissonville with Pastors David Taylor and John Hensley officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Garden of Memories in Sissonville. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at the funeral home.

Lila Virginia Wiles Lester

Mrs. Lila Virginia Wiles Lester, 85, of Pemberton, passed away Wednesday evening, November 6, 2013, at Raleigh General Hospital following a sudden illness.

Born March 20, 1928, Lila was the daughter of the late Sheffey Clay and Leah Kiser Wiles.

She was a member of the Pemberton Missionary Baptist Church, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be forever missed by family and friends.

Lila was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Lester, in 2005 and her son Kenneth Lester in 2009.

Survivors include her children Keith Lester and wife Carol of Oak Hill; Carolyn Osborne and husband Larry of Conover, N.C.; Marlene Duncan and husband David of Hickory, N.C.; Allen Lester and wife Jackie of Pemberton; Mary Lang and husband Gerald of Charlotte, N.C.; Brenda Vass and husband Fred of Nimitz and Linda Markland and husband Edward of Lexington, N.C. Nephews Mac Lilly of Crab Orchard  and Jimmy Ford of Beckley also survive.

Lila leaves behind seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Service will be held Saturday, November 9, 2013, at 1 p.m. in the Mausoleum of Faith at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, with the Rev. James Ford officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the Pemberton Missionary Baptist Church, 576 Coal City Road, Midway, WV 25878.
