Chad Wilson Brown

MONROE, Ga. — Chad Wilson Brown, age 34, Monroe, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2013.

Born September 7, 1979 Beckley, he was the son of Paul Keith Brown and Beverly Jean Thompson Brown of Jefferson, Ga.

Mr. Brown was a 1998 graduate of Jackson County Comprehensive High School, where he was a member of the FFA, and was an avid animal lover. He attended Gwinnett Tech and was a Lead Welder at Caterpillar Inc. in Bogart, GA.

Survivors include his parents, Paul and Beverly Brown, brother, Doug Brown all of Jefferson, grandmother, Margaret Meadows of Gallaten, Tenn., niece and nephew, Trey and Emma Brown of Clover, S.C., uncle, Fred (Jean) Thompson of Ballengee, W.Va., Steven (Patti) Brown of Gallenten, Tenn., cousins, Jason Brown and Seth Thompson.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2013 at Oak Grove United Methodist Church at Ballengee with Pastor Clark Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery at Ballengee. Friends may call from 12 noon until time of services on Friday at the church.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

David Lee Church

ELSEGUNDO, Calif. — David Lee Church, 55, of Elsegundo, formerly of Beckley, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at the UCLA-Harbor in Torrance, Calif.

Born on January 26, 1958 in Mullens, he was the son of Rita Tabor Church Robinson of Beckley and the late Rev. Gerald B. Church. He was also the step son of Danny Robinson of Beckley.

David was an engineer for Chevron in California. He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and WV Institute of Technology at Montgomery, WV.

He was of member of the Beckley Church of God, and had made his home in California for the past 10 years. Prior to moving to California, he owned and operated a restaurant on the Island of Grand Turk in the British West Indies. David and his friend Dennis Foster enjoyed bike riding along the Redondo and Venice beaches. He was a scuba diver, enjoyed NASCAR, and also spending time with friends and family. 

In addition to his father, his grandparents, Lawrence and Icie Church and Charlie and Lillie Tabor preceded him in death.

Surviving other than his mother, Rita Church Robinson, include his fiancé, Stacy Rocca of El Segundo, Calif.; his brother, Phil Church and his wife Valerie of Talcott; three nephews,  Phillip, Adam and Daniel Church. Several great nieces and nephews are also surviving.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Church of God Family Worship Center, on Pinewood Drive, in Beckley, on Friday, November 1, 2013 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Stacy Dingess and Rev. Boyd England officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens at Princeton. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday.

Julia ‘Dodie’ Ferrell

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Mrs. Julia “Dodie” Ferrell, 60, of Charlotte, formerly of Harlem Heights, died Saturday, October 26, 2013.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Friday, November 1, 2013 at Spirit and Truth Ministries, 100 Main Street West, Oak Hill, with Bishop Sam R. Calloway Jr. officiating.

Friends may call two hours prior to the service at the church.

SUMMERSVILLE — Clyde E. Fockler, 89, of Summersville, died Monday, October 28, 2013.

WHITMAN — Emory Gingise, 81, of Whitman, passed away Monday, October 28, 2013.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Honaker Funeral Home in Logan, with Father Yesu Golla officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Godby.

FAIRMONT — Harry T. Golden, 88, of Fairmont, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2013.

Friends may call at the Frey Home For Funerals (Historic Chapel), 320 Madison St., Fairmont on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m. Services will be held in the funeral home Thursday at 10 a.m. with Rabbi Joe Hample officiating. Following the funeral the US Navy and the Marion County Honor Guard will present military honors. Interment will follow at the Hebrew Cemetery in Hopwood, Pa.

SUMMERSVILLE — Patrick D. Hoffman, 74, of Summersville, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at the Summersville Baptist Church with Pastor Dana Gatewood officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Bickmore.

Charles ‘Buck’ Edward Hornsby

VICTOR — Charles “Buck” Edward Hornsby, 83, of Victor, passed away Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at the residence of his daughter following a long illness.

Born October 14, 1930 at Cedar Grove, W.Va., he was the son of the late John and Ida Mae Darby Tanthorey. He was a retired coal miner, a veteran of the United States Navy and he was of the Pentecostal faith.

Other than his parents he is preceded by his first wife, Alice Simms Hornsby in 2004; two sisters, Marie Lanham and Francis Barher; two brothers, Meloin and Robert Tanthorey

Those left to cherish is memory include his wife, Hilda Mae Holcomb Hornsby; two daughters, Cynthia Bennett and husband George of Ramsey and Lisa Snyder and husband Robert of Elizabethton, Tenn.; four sons, Robert and wife Kay of Beards Fork, Gary and wife Jodie of Fayetteville, Scott and wife Dina of Ramsey and Kenneth and wife Robin of Elizabethton, Tenn.; a sister, Mary Brown of Fayetteville; 23 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Chapel, Ansted with Pastor Danny Legg officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens, Victor.

Friends may gather with the family Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Marjorie Eloise Ingram

ANSTED — Marjorie Eloise Ingram, 92, of Ansted, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 28, 2013 at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley.

Born on August 5, 1921 at Ansted, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Carrie McGraw Parrish.

Mrs. Ingram was a member of Lovers Leap Baptist Church, Ansted, where she a member of the ABW. She was active at the Ansted Senior Center and volunteered at the Contentment House in Ansted. She graduated from Ansted High School, later working at IBM in Bethlehem, Pa.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Ingram; brother, Robert Parrish; and Dorothy Nichols.

Left to cherish many wonderful memories include her daughter, Marjorie (Jack) Guthrie of Ansted; two sons, Thomas (Patricia) Ingram and Dennis Ingram and his companion Tracey, both of Ansted; three granddaughters, Kari Ann (Mark) Elkins, Hannah (Joe) Critchley and Holly (Lorne Davis) Ingram; three great-grandsons, Connor Critchley, Brantley Davis and Robert Guthrie; one great-granddaughter, Kylee Critchley; sister-in-law, Thelma (Ed) Fabin; nephew, Kevin Parrish; and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 1, 2013 at Lovers Leap Baptist Church, Ansted, with Pastor Ron George Sr. officiating. Burial follow at the Hendricks Cemetery at Turkey Creek.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville.

Alden McClung

RAINELLE — Alden McClung, 85, passed away Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, at the home of his daughter, following a long illness.

Born Feb. 14, 1928, at Quinwood, he was the son of the late Joseph D. and Esta Ann Orndorff McClung.

He was a member of the New Prospect Baptist Church of Leivasy and a member of the UMWA. Alden was a retired coal miner and a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean War.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann Holstine McClung in 2004.

Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Smith (Anthony) of Iron Station, N.C. and Kim Buckland (John) of  Rainelle; two sons, Bruce A. McClung (Karen) of Quinwood and Jeff McClung (Brenda) of Rainelle; a sister, Gay Walkup of Inwood; two brothers, Preston McClung of Nettie and Denver McClung of Quinwood; seven grandchildren, Chrissy, Jason, Charlie, Autumn, Lora, Jamie and Dale; nine great-grandchildren, Haley, Faythe, Melody, Austin, Levi, Trinity, Jacob, Wyatt and Emma; three great-great-grandchildren, Brooklynn, Junior and Breelynne.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at Wallace & Wallace Chapel of Rainelle, with Pastor Tim McClung officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery, Carl, W.Va.

Friends may gather with the family Wednesday evening, Oct. 30, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wallace & Wallace Chapel, Rainelle.

Emmogene Smith O’Neal

Emmogene Smith O'Neal of Beckley, passed away Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, just 23 days before her 76'th birthday at the University of Virginia Health System of Charlottesville, Va.  following a short illness.

She was born Nov. 18, 1937 at Norvel, W.Va., to the late Joseph and Ethel Bowles Smith.

Mrs. O'Neal retired from Raleigh County Board of Education in Jan 2002 after serving 25 1/2 years as a Special Ed. Bus Monitor. She also worked at Valley and MacArthur skating rinks.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James (Jim) O'Neal; brothers, Ralph Adkins, James, Emmitt, Arlie, Robert and Howard Smith; sisters,  Gladys Adkins Ewing, Evelyn and Margie Smith.

She is survived by her daughter Annette O'Neal who was her caregiver for the last five years and her boyfriend Gary Beckett; her son Patrick O'Neal of Beckley; six grandchildren: Tiffany Mitchem, E5/SGT Michael Ferrell USMC of Pikeville, Ky., James (Jamie) O'Neal Howlett of Princeton, W.Va., Lance Corporal Jake (Katie) Ferrell USMC of 29 Palms, Calif., Airman 1st Class Patrick O'Neal Jr. USAF Okinawa-shi, Okinawa, Japan, 19 Delta Cov Scout (Dale) Jessica O'Neal Salmons; great grandson Jason Ferrell; sisters, Irene Bragg of Beckley, Geraldine Walker of Alexandria, Va.; brother, Houston Smith of Beckley; special great nephews, Henry and Herbert Bragg of Beckley along with many special nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31  at the Wesleyan Chapel with the Rev. Glen Bragg Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity. Friends may visit with the family from noon until time of service on Thursday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Fitzwater, William Bragg, Rocky O'Neal, David Lilly, Roy Payne and Larry Lilly.

Jethro Darl Walker

Jethro Darl Walker, 80, of Odd, passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 29, 2013.

Born on June 14, 1933 at Egeria, he was the son of the late Troy Fetzer Walker and Lucinda Lillian Wood Walker.

Mr. Walker was a retired employee of the N &W Railroad as a maintenance of way employee. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member and  President of the Board of Directors of the Ghent Area Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the fire department from 1973 to 2009. 

Mr. Walker was preceded in death by a brother, Sherman Emory Walker and by a sister Christina Walker.

Survivors include his wife Lenna Bell Payne Walker; his children, Sheila Walker Davis and her husband Willie of Christiansburg, Va., Greg Walker and Jo Ann of North Carolina,  Marsha Lynn Walker of Virginia Beach, Va. and Jeffrey Walker and his wife Melissa of Beckley. Grandchildren, Dawn Renae Davis, Ginny Smith, Tiffany Wood, Jessie Matta,  Josh Leake, Ryan, Taylor Madyson Walker and Megan Brooke Walkerl two great grandchildren, Amyha Smith and Joshua Matta; a brother Tom Walker and his wife Sandra of  West View, W.Va. 

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at 1 p.m. with  Rev. Randy Farley officiating.  Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity. Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday.

Friends and members of the Ghent Volunteer Fire Department will serve as pallbearers. Members of the Board of Directors of the Ghent Volunteer Fire Department will serve as honorary pallbearers.
