James Lloyd Adkins

KINCAID — James Lloyd Adkins, 82, of Kincaid, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2013, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital in Beckley.

Born August 20, 1931, at Kincaid, he was the son of the late Carbet Earl and Beatrice Marie Kincaid Adkins.

Mr. Kincaid was a retired coal miner.

He was a rescue squad member and served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. James was a very friendly people person. He loved gardening and sharing the bounty of his harvest with family and friends and was an avid hunter.

A brother Charles Edward Adkins preceded him in death.

He leaves behind a loving family which includes his wife of 61 years, Ethel L. Shaver Adkins; son, Lloyd Dewayne Adkins of Smithers, Canada; daughter, Sheila Ann Walker of Oak Hill; four grandchildren, Keith Stanley and wife, Terri, of Kincaid, Jennifer Stanley and partner, Shelly of Charleston, Brandon Adkins and wife, Jamie of Kentucky and Troy Adkins of Tennessee; and five great grandchildren, Kevin, Alexis, Issack, Xavier and Brook.

Also surviving are two sisters, Phyllis Ann Ludwig and husband Lee of Peterstown and Sharon Sue Robertson and husband L.A of Georgia.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at the Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill with Pastor Delmas Wolfe officiating. Entombment will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill with military graveside rites conducted by Oak Hill VFW Post No. 3110.

Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to services on Wednesday, October 16, 2013.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Kincaid United Methodist Church, PO Box 146, Kincaid, WV 25119.

Theresa P. Adkins

JUDSON — Theresa P. Adkins, 83, of Judson, died Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center at Fairlea following a short illness.

Born January 31, 1930, at Blakers Mill, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Clark and Beatrice Martin Baker.

Ms. Adkins was a graduate of Alderson High School. She was a member of Shephard’s Care Family Worship Center in Hinton and was a caregiver.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Adkins. Also preceded by a son, Larry Shepard, two brothers, Bernard and Leo Baker and one sister, Imogene Baker Phillips.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Jennings and husband Bill of High Point, N.C.; one sister, Geraldine Burns of Parkersburg, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Patricia Scott of High Point, N.C. and Sherri Vinroot and husband Marcus of Greensboro, N.C.; four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive and a step-son, Jimmy Adkins of Judson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton. Burial will follow in Campground Cemetery at Creamery, W.Va.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Kenneth Dale Blackburn

OCEANA — Kenneth Dale Blackburn, 68, of Oceana, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2013, at his home.

He was born April 23, 1945, in Kopperston, W.Va., a son of the late Grover Cleveland and Kathleen Justice Blackburn.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Densel Blackburn and a sister Delores Shrewbury.

Survivors include his loving wife of almost 49 years Rebecca M. Sizemore Blackburn; a daughter Teresa Brinkley of Lynco; a son Dale Blackburn of Bassett, Va.; one grandson Joshua Dale Blackburn of Oceana; and a host of other loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16, 2013, in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Compton officiating. He will be laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

Friends may gather with the family Wednesday from 11 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

Lundy Lewis Boggess, age 78, of Glen Daniel, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2013 at the Beckley VA Medical Center following a long illness.

Thelma E. Cook

HOTCHKISS — Thelma E. Cook, 88 of Hotchkiss, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2013.

Born on August 14, 1925, at Oxley, W.Va., to the late John and Emma Foster.

Thelma was a homemaker and took great pride in the cleanliness of her home.

In addition to her parents, Thelma is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, James Lacy Cook Jr.; brothers, Jim and Edward, and sister, Noreen.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, James Moran and wife Carolyn of Beaver, John Cook and wife Nancy of Beckley; daughters, Rosemary Eller and husband Ken of Bethel Park, Pa., Betty Osborne and husband Dale of Crab Orchard, Vickie White and husband Rennie of Lynchburg, Va.; sister, Wanda Tindell of Biloxi, Miss.; sisters-in-law, Bessie Cook and Marie Cook of Hotchkiss; grandchildren, Tammy Ratliff and Tina Acord of Beaver, Kenna Altmeyer and Jenny Westerman of Bethel Park, Pa., Della Dancy of Sophia and James Curtis Osborne of Nimitz, Tamber Hodges of Daniels, Aaron White of Virginia Beach, Va. and Kelley White of Richmond, Va.; 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with Rev. Harless Cook officiating. Thelma will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Tim Cook, Tom Dancy, Tom Halsey, Matt Hodges, Curt Osborne and Robert Ward.

Kaylee Nevaeh Gilkerson, stillborn daughter of Shane Michael and Jessica Nickole Evans Gilkerson, passed away Friday, October 11, 2013.

Kaylee was preceded in death by her grandfather, Bruce Gilkerson and great grandparents, Gene Evans and Jimmy James.

Shirley J. Hambrick

Shirley J. Hambrick, 64, passed away October 13, 2013.

She was born January 18, 1949, to the late General and Myrtle Pritchard Maynard.

Shirley was known as a truly kind-hearted and caring person and the best Mom-Maw.

In addition to her parents those preceding her in death are brothers and sisters, Audrey Bais, Jimmy Maynard, Mary Elkins and Bill Maynard; two grandchildren, Wesley Toler and Michelle Barnard.

Those left to cherish her memory include daughters, Audrey Toler and her husband Bobby; Barbara Roach and her husband Mark, Kim Hopchak and her husband Michael, and Leigh Roberts and her husband Anthony; brother, Kenneth Maynard; grandchildren, Samantha Davidson, Billy Davidson, Matthew Toler, Linnie Pooh Toler, Cheryl Barnard, Robbie Barnard, Amanda Tuck, Ashley Huckleberry, Lauri Leigh Treadway, Issac Roberts and Evan Roberts and eight great-grandchildren.

Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 16, at High Lawn Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Paul Neil officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Preston Lee Kelly

WEIRWOOD — Preston Lee Kelly, 68, of Weirwood, died on Sunday, October 13, 2013, at his home.

Born May 2, 1945, at Mahan, W.Va., he was the son of the late Ruby Laura Kelly Dotson and stepson of Charlie Dotson.

Preston was a retired school bus driver for the Fayette County Board of Education with 23 years service. He was also a retired sales associate for Lowes of Martinsburg. He attended the Pax Worship Center.

He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Vietnam Conflict.

Survivors include his wife, Darnell Stover Kelly; six children; Steven Stover of Weirwood, Michele Moore of Mount Hope, Kimberly Durant of Hammond, Ind., George Kaye of Weirwood, Wayne Kelly of Kincaid and Austin Kelly of Weirwood; brother, Kenneth Dotson of Campbellsville, Ky.; two sisters, Drema McGuire of Whipple and Patricia Minter of Oak Hill; and 12 grandchildren

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope with Pastor Dwayne Williams and Pastor Darrell Ewing officiating. Burial will be at Wriston Cemetery, Lick Fork at Mossy, W.Va. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Glenna Mae Lackey

SMOOT — Glenna Mae Lackey, 85 of Smoot, passed away on October 13, 2013, after a long battle with mini strokes causing dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Glenna worked for the Greenbrier County Board of Education, retiring after many years of service.  She was a member of the Smoot Baptist Church and the Bellwood Baptist Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Shirley Whitley of Port Saint Lucie, Fla., Sheila Rives of Jacksonville, Ill. and Shelby “Janie” McCalister of Manassas, Va.; three grandchildren, Lisa Baughman and Michael Lee of Ohio and Nathan McCalister of Virginia and two great grandchildren Logan and Jacob.

Glenna was preceded in death by her son Lonnie and her husband Walter. She goes to her rest with our immense love and gratitude for being the best mother and friend anyone could ever have. She will be greatly missed by those she helped take care of over the years and all her church friends and especially her family.

A special recognition to Jeanette Warner (her caregiver) and her family who have been by our mother's side constantly for the last several years. There is a special place in heaven for her.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday October 16, 2013, with Pastor Jim Luchsinger, officiating the service, with a visitation being held from 1 to 2 p.m. at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Rainelle. Burial will follow at the End of The Trail Cemetery in Clintonville.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Altzheimers association and local Hospice organizations.

Lovina Ruth “Venus” Morgan, 36, of Old Crow Road, Beaver, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2013, at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.

FAYETTEVILLE — Ines Skaggs Reynolds, 89, of Fayetteville, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2013, at home following a long illness.

Born on August 1, 1924, at Ansted, she was the daughter of the late Dewey and Tressie Canaday Pridemore.

Mrs. Reynolds was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Fayetteville. She worked at Inge Dry Cleaners, Wiseman’s Drug Store, and retired from Daniel’s IGA.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands, Russell B. Skaggs and Robert E. Reynolds; brothers, Darrell Pridemore and Clarence Pridemore; and sisters, Mildred Russell, Iris Moesta and Faye Kincaid.

Left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Carol (Lloyd) Lewis of Fayetteville; two stepsons, Charles G. Reynolds, of Salem, Wisconsin and Robert E. Reynolds of Shreveport, La.; one brother, Larry Pridemore of Augusta, Ga.; one granddaughter, Lori McKinney; and great-granddaughter, Ashton, McKinney.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with Pastor Justin Seay officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens, Victor.

The family will receive friends one hour before the funeral on Wednesday at the funeral home.
