Novella Blankenship

Novella Blankenship, 63, of Bradley went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 25, 2013. Born January 3, 1950, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Jeanette Craigo Spencer.

Novella enjoyed sewing, making quilts, gardening, bingo and especially spending time with her grandson.

In addition to her parents, Novella is preceded in death by her husband, Monroe Blankenship, and son, Luke Hess.

Those left to cherish her memory include her grandson, Luke Hess, II; daughter-in-law, Rita Hess; brother, Kenneth Craigo and wife Dixie; niece, Tisha Ritch and husband; nephew, Ray Craigo and his wife.

In keeping with Novella’s wishes she has been cremated.

A memorial service will be held Monday, September 30, 2013, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley.

Friends may gather with the family from 12 to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial may be to Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Road, Beckley, WV.

Clyde Michael ‘Mike’ Bostick

Clyde Michael “Mike” Bostick, age 66, of Beckley, WV, passed away at his home on Tuesday, September 24, 2013.

Born on August 12, 1947, in Beckley, he was the son of the late Clyde J. Bostick and Violet M. Pittman Bostick.

Mr. Bostick was retired from the U.S. Postal Service serving as a route carrier, and lastly as a clerk at the Mount Hope Post Office.

Mr. Bostick was a member of the Calloway Heights Baptist Church, and was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He  was a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Beckley Lodge, and enjoyed going to the Greenbrier River to fish.

Mr. Bostick was preceded in death by a sister, Sally Jo Lawson.

Surviving daughter Tina Marie Dameron of Sprague, granddaughter Kaytlyn Thomas of Glen Morgan, a sister Evelyn Pierce of Sprague, several nieces and nephews including his niece who helped care for him, Gloria Thomas and her husband Preston of Glen Morgan. Also surviving is his faithful companion Mobo, his dog.

Memorial services will be conducted at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum in Beckley on Monday, September 30, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Bill Parker and Pastor Gene Terry officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. until service time at the mausoleum on Monday. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #32 Honor Guard.

Willa ‘Bill’ Mae Wilson Franklin

OAK HILL — Willa “Bill” Mae Wilson Franklin, 91, of Oak Hill, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV.

Born August 16, 1922, at Blue Ridge, GA, she was the daughter of the late Lola “Ma” Wilson.

She was employed at G.C. Murphy in Oak Hill for over 20 years having been a sales clerk and later worked in the office.

For 50 years Bill was a faithful member of the Kincaid Church of God where she was a Sunday school teacher and an active member of the CWC having held various offices throughout the years. After moving up to Oak Hill nine years ago, she and Huck attended the Jones Avenue Church of God.

Her husband of 68 years, James Russell “Huck” Franklin, preceded her in death.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Pat Franklin, and Rusty (Eva) Franklin, of Oak Hill; her grandchildren, TJ Franklin, Megan (BJ) Jones of Oak Hill, Michael (Sarah) Franklin of Roanoke, VA, and Matthew (Erika) Franklin of Mount Dora, FL; and five great-grandchildren, Hannah and Hunter Franklin, Emily Jones, and Madison and Harper Franklin; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ben and Pat Franklin of Aiken, SC, and a host of other loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be on Monday, September 30, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Jones Avenue Church of God in Oak Hill with Rev. Ralph Shupe and Rev. Tonya Shupe officiating. Following the services, she will be laid to rest beside her husband at High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill.

Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, on Sunday, September 29, 2013, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Monday, September 30, 2013, at the church.

Grandsons, T.J. Franklin, Michael Franklin, Matt Franklin, grandson-in-law, B.J. Jones, and Ben Franklin and Jimmy Franklin will serve as pallbearers.

Harry Raymond Green

Harry Raymond Green, aged 86, of Beckley, passed away at his home on Friday, September 27, 2013, surrounded by his family.

Born on the 6th of June 1927 in Spanishburg, WV, a son to the late Harrison Green and Paradine Lusk Green.

Mr. Green was a member of the Crab Orchard Church of the Brethren where he proudly served as a Sunday school Superintendent, teacher, and usher. He was a member of the UMWA, and also retired as a certified electrician. He also served our country in the United States Army during World War II.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Tudor, Weldon, and Chester Green; sisters, Lillian Peters, Violet McKinney, and Mildred Martin.

Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Mrs. Elizabeth ‘Bowling’ Green, at home; daughters, Brenda Campbell (Bunny), Dianna Golden (Jeffrey), and Robin Rife (Ricky) all of Beckley; sisters, Goldie Shrewsbury of Beckley and Virginia Green of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Steven Campbell, Allen Campbell (Jennifer), Cristinia Houchins, Breann Bailey (Michael), and Bryan Shirkey (Shelly); also survived by 8 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Monday, September 30, 2013, at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Chapel in Beckley with Rev. David Shumate and Jim Campbell officiating. Interment will be held privately.

Gentlemen serving as pallbearers are Basil (Bunny) Campbell, Rick Rife, Jeff Golden, Allen Campbell, Bryan Shirkey, and Michael Bailey.

Evening of visitation will begin at 5 p.m. and last up until time of the service.

The family informs that flowers are graciously welcome or you may donate to the Crab Orchard Church of the Brethren.

Dale Roger Harold

MARIANNA — Dale Roger Harold, 66, of Marianna, WV, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, September 23, 2013, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

He was born May 5, 1947, in Fanrock, WV.

Dale retired from the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 132 after 35 years of service. He also belonged to the United Steel Workers district 23 for 5 years.

Dale was preceded in death by his father Darrell Harold of Brenton, and a brother Buel of Brenton.

He was a 1965 graduate of Baileysville High School.

Dales is survived by Dottie his loving wife of 47 years; his mother May Harold of Brenton; a daughter Cynthia and her husband Harry Stafford, Jr., of Clermont, FL, and their children Chelsea, Courtney, Megan, and Caleb; a son Dale, Jr., of Marianna, and his kids Kaylee, and Dale III; a brother Paul and his wife Linda of Saltville, VA, and their son Eric; a sister Patricia and her husband Eddie St. Clair of Marianna, and their kids Missy and Eddie Lee; two nieces Angie and Christy.

Dale enjoyed taking his Camaro to car shows and being a citizens band radio enthusiast, where he enjoyed talking to his many friends on CB channel 36.

The family wishes to honor Dale’s request of no service.

Ellen Mae Miller Lawson

OAK HILL — Ellen Mae Miller Lawson, age 97, of Oak Hill, WV, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2013, at her residence.

Born August 11, 1916, at Fayetteville, WV, she was the daughter of the late William Franklin and Nancy Jane Bell Miller.

Ellen was a homemaker, creating a loving home for her family.

Surviving are her daughter, Mary Lawson McCurdy of Fayetteville, WV, her granddaughter, Olivia Mae DeLung and husband Travis James DeLung, and her great-grandchildren, Jaidyn Faith DeLung and James Oliver DeLung, all of Fayetteville, WV. Also surviving her brother, Lyle Miller and his wife Lily of Fayetteville, WV.

Mrs. Lawson’s wishes was no services. A private family entombment will be held at her final resting place at High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Oak Hill, WV.

LEWISBURG — Lloyd S. Quick, 92, of Lewisburg died Sept. 26, 2013.

Graveside services and burial will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, at Greenbrier Memorial Gardens in Lewisburg. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Morgan Funeral Home in Lewisburg.



Kennith W. Rose

Kennith W. Rose, 61, of Amigo went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 25, 2013.

Born December 22, 1951, he was the son of Woodrow Wilson Rose and the late Geraldine McKinney Rose.

Kennith loved hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren and beloved dog Dingo. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #151 of Mullens, WV, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star where he was the Worthy Grand Patron in 2006.

He worked 23 years as a coal miner including for the E and A Coal Company at Whitby, WV. Kennith was of the Catholic faith.

In addition to his mother, Kennith is preceded in death by his sister, Drema Gail (Rose) Archambeault; mother-in-law, Cora Cumby; and special uncle, Jay McKinney.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 44 years, Betty (Cumby) Rose of Amigo; daughter, Connie Lynn (Rose) Stickler of Mullens; grandchildren, Dylan and Kendra Stickler of Mullens; and his beloved pet Dingo; two sisters, Brenda Davis and husband Travis of Mullens, Mona Lisa (Rose) Goode and husband Tommy of Florida; 4 brothers, Billy Rose and wife Ann of Princeton, Tommy Rose and wife Sue of Herndon Heights, Ronald Dickens of Beckley and Jerry Wayne Dickens and wife Anna of Mullens; special uncle, Jess (Jaybird) Maynard of Alpoca; father-in-law, Robert Andrew Cumby of Amigo; sisters-in-law, Sandy Shrewsbury and companion, Arnold Linkous, of Mt. Hope, Linda Wrenn of Amigo, Janet Kiblinger and husband Marty of MacArthur; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family would like to thank the NSICU unit at CAMC General for their outstanding care of Kennith and his family. A special thanks to Sister Frann for her spiritual guidance.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Pastor Gary Eskins officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with the Masonic Lodge performing graveside rites.

Friends may gather with the family Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The Order of The Eastern Star will conduct a service at 7 p.m.

Frank P. Smith Jr.

GREENVILLE — Frank P. Smith, Jr., 86, of Greenville, WV, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2013, at Princeton Community Hospital following a long illness. 

He was born at Union, WV, Dec. 8, 1927, a son of the late Frank Pendleton and Jessie Pearl Parker Smith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Joyce Smith.

Mr. Smith was a retired Monroe County School Bus driver, a farmer, a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Mt. Hedding United Methodist Church at Lillydale and the Farm Bureau. 

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Anna Marie Walthall Smith of Greenville; 3 children, Douglas Glenn Smith and wife, Gracie, of Chrisney, Ind., Anita Wells and husband, Michael, of Bluefield, Va., Wanda Smith and husband, Dwayne Hensley, of Greenville; 5 grandchildren, Masil and Travis Smith, Aaron and Adam Wells and Jessie Hensley; 2 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, September 30, 2013, at the Groves Funeral Home Chapel in Union, WV, with Rev. Herman Jones officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Hedding Cemetery at Lillydale, WV.
