Kathy May Riley

Kathy May Riley, 41, passed away Sunday morning, November 25, 2012, following a long illness.

Kathy was born May 6, 1971, in Beckley, to Sylvia Lawson Riley and the late Raymond Riley. Besides her father Kathy was preceded in death by an infant son.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons Nicholas and Alex Riley, her companion of 25 years David Clower, a grandson Alexander Elliott Riley II, four brothers and two sisters.

Memorial services will be conducted on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at Glen White Church of God, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Jesse Farley officiating. The family will receive friends at 12:30 until time of service.

Kathy will be truly missed by many.

James Clarence Sandy Sr.

CRAIGSVILLE — James Clarence Sandy Sr., 79, of Craigsville, passed away Monday, Dec. 3, 2012.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood, with Pastor Jenny Russ officiating. Burial will follow in West Virginia Memorial Gardens, Calvin. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at the funeral home.

Mary Magdalene McAlpine Stewart

MATHENY — Mary Magdalene McAlpine Stewart, widow of Troy Marcum Stewart Sr., died Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at the age of 90.

Born February 26, 1922, in Warrior, Ala., she was the elder daughter of the late Homer McAlpine and Clara Simons McAlpine.

She was associated with the Matheny Church of God for over 65 years. At the time of her death, she was the longest surviving member of the congregation.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Homer Kelly Stewart Sr.; two sisters, Josephine and Willadene; and four brothers, Paul, Joseph, Chester, and Clarence.

She is survived by three children: Dr. Troy M. Stewart Jr. and wife, Kay, of Huntington, Cynthia Stewart Kidd and husband, David, of Matheny and Rebecca Stewart Cooke of Matheny. She took great pride in the fact that all four of her children were graduates of Oceana High School.

She is also survived by grandchildren: Troy Marcum Stewart III of Nashville, Tenn., Sherry Hall Adkins and husband, Darrell, of Chester, Va., Nathan Stewart Cooke of Blacksburg, Va., Adam Thomas Cooke and wife, Sammie, of Pineville, Homer Kelly Stewart Jr. of Beaufort, S.C., and Kevin Stewart of Yemasee, S.C.; two sisters, Geraldine Maag of Winfield and Hazel Richmond of Prince George, Va.; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Her passing will also be mourned by two special friends, Joseph and Dorothy Paynter of Pineville.

A celebration of Mrs. Stewart’s life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 8, 2012, at the Matheny Church of God, with the Rev. Tommy Perry and Rev. Jerry Graham officiating. Interment will follow at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, December 7, at Evans Funeral Home.

FENWICK — Constance Bowyer Taylor, 66, of Fenwick, passed away Dec. 4, 2012.

A tribute to her life will be 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood, with Pastor Larry Russell officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park, Richwood. Friends may call 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at the funeral home.
